John Souttar accepts Rangers fan fury as he demands flops share Russell Martin's burden

The Ibrox boss is firmly in the firing line after defeat to Club Brugge but Souttar insists the players have to take their fair share John Souttar has backed under-fire Rangers boss Russell Martin - and says they ALL deserve to face the fans' fury. ‌ The Ibrox defender was part of their 3-1 Champions League play-off defeat to Club Brugge last night, which has left them with a mountain to climb in the second-leg to reach the group phase. ‌ Some disgruntled punters left the ground before half-time after the Belgians raced into a three-goal lead inside 20 minutes. And Martin's team were roundly booed off at the end. ‌ It's been a poor start to the campaign for Rangers, having failed to win their opening two league games against Motherwell and Dundee. Martin is getting it in the neck from supporters but Souttar has defended his gaffer and says it's a collective responsibility. He said: 'Look, I think it's unfair for him to take the flak. 'I think we all have to take it. It's not just the manager, I think we are all due it. 'Everyone at this club who wants to play here has to understand that when things are not going well and demands are not met - then you are going to take flak. You need to accept that. 'In the first half on Tuesday we actually shot ourselves in the foot with how we started. When you give away the goals we did, that makes any game difficult. ‌ 'Especially a game like that when there is so much at stake and we are playing against a team of that quality. 'In the second half we were a bit better and made them a bit more uncomfortable. But the damage was done before that.' ‌ Rangers will need to pull off a miracle in Brugge next Wednesday to overturn the two-goal deficit and qualify against the odds. Souttar says they must defend better in Belgium but - after performing well away in Europe for a few years before Martin arrived - he still believes they can pull off an unlikely result. He said: 'We brought pressure on ourselves by conceding those two goals in the manner we did. ‌ 'That makes everything harder so we have to go over there and be on the front foot. 'We can't afford to give goals away the way we did. 'We need to implement our game plan on them, instead of giving them the start we did. ‌ 'There is still the belief because we have had big results away from home in Europe in the last few years. 'But there is no point saying that - we need to go and show it.' Souttar admits Rangers handed Brugge their goals on a plate at Ibrox and allowed them to enjoy their Glasgow visit. ‌ In recent years, European clubs haven't relished a trip to Ibrox but the Scotland centre-back knows they made it far too easy for the Belgians. Now, he's holding on to the fact Martin's men at least showed some kind of spirit in the second half to give themselves a chance in the away leg. ‌ He said: "Of course we have to cling on to that. We have to cling on to something. 'The way we played in the second half, we were on the front foot but obviously it's easier when you have nothing to lose. 'We wanted to start like that. But when you lose two goals like that it naturally derails everything. ‌ 'We were a bit better in the second half and when we go over there next week we've got to play like that. "On Tuesday night, we gave them confidence and that made life so difficult. 'We've had good European nights here and Ibrox has been a place where opposition teams don't feel comfortable. "But we gave Brugge that comfort. So when you give teams that comfort, it's a lot easier for them to play out from the back, take risks and be more relaxed. We gifted them that luxury. 'It's important when we have European games here that we get the crowd on our side and make the opposition uncomfortable. 'That's our biggest asset and we just didn't do that."

Celtic begin their European campaign in the Champions League play-off round where they will meet Kazakhstan opposition in the shape of Kairat Almaty. Brendan Rodgers' side host the first leg of the tie at Parkhead on Wednesday before embarking on a 7,000 mile round trip for the return leg next week. Kairat Almaty, meanwhile, have already come through three ties to reach this stage, most recently beating Slovan Bratislava 2-1 across two legs. With up to £40million at stake for the winner, the outcome of the tie could determine the type of business Celtic do in the final two weeks of the transfer window. The loser will have the safety net of dropping into the Europa League, where the level of potential prize money is significantly reduced. Aberdeen v FCSB: The big questions facing Dons boss Jimmy Thelin ahead of Europa League play-off

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin has some big decisions to make as he ponders his team to face FCSB in the Europa League play-off first leg on Thursday. A place in the group stage of the tournament is at stake as the Dons welcome the Romanian league champions to Pittodrie for the first game of the tie – and Thelin has much to ponder. We take a look at the tactical and personnel conundrums facing the Aberdeen manager. The first call is whether to stick with a back four or a switch to the cup final defensive five which helped the Dons secure Scottish Cup glory in May. Thelin sprang a tactical surprise at Hampden by dispersing with his 4-2-3-1 approach in favour of a 3-5-2 system against Celtic. It paid off in style as the Dons won the cup in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes. The Dons boss has switched back to a four-man backline so far this season, including the 2-0 defeat by the Hoops in the previous home match. But could a new approach be on the cards in Thelin's first European tie? Above all else, the Aberdeen manager will want to ensure his side remain in the tie for next week's second leg at the National Arena in Bucharest – but his hand will be forced by who is available. Thelin made changes to his team for Saturday's 3-0 win against Morton at Cappielow in the Premier Sports Cup, but he is unlikely to go with the same starting XI against FCSB. Gavin Molloy made his first appearance of the season at left back but captain Graeme Shinnie will likely return in a defensive role. Alfie Dorrington and Jack Milne also played together for the second game in a row in central defence, but whether they continue will depend on whether Mats Knoester is fit to play. The Dutchman has missed the last two games due to a groin strain, but having a player of his experience available, especially in the absence of injured defender Kristers Tobers, will be huge for Aberdeen. If Knoester is fit it also gives the Aberdeen manager the option of switching to a back five too. Sivert Heltne Nilsen will occupy one of the midfield anchor roles but, assuming Shinnie plays in the left-back role, Thelin has options as partner for the Norwegian. Leighton Clarkson and Ante Palaversa look the favoured options. Palaversa was given the nod at Cappielow. But Clarkson came off the bench to score the third goal and that might just be enough to sway his manager's final decision. That leaves the left-wing slot. Shayden Morris started at the weekend while Topi Keskinen came off the bench to set up Clarkson and will likely return on the left wing against FCSB. With Nicolas Milanovic occupying the right and Adil Aouchiche supporting Kusini Yengi up in attack, Morris may have to settle for the super-sub role once more.
