Kerala to revolutionise work and travel tourism with ‘startup pod'
Implemented jointly by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and the tourism department, the innovative initiative is expected to woo tech professionals and entrepreneurs from across the globe to enjoy 'workation' in the state.
The workpod will come up at the tourism department's land near the government guest house at Varkala. An official with KSUM told TNIE that the initiative aims to offer new tourism experiences and woo professionals, entrepreneurs, and startups.
'The startup pod will serve as hubs for remote working, innovation, and brainstorming. It's also going to be a 'test bed' to attract tech investments and foster an ecosystem of startups. People can stay here for a month or two to brainstorm new ideas or develop a product while enjoying the natural beauty of the location. All amenities required for remote working, and a relaxing stay, will be ensured,' the official said.
High-speed internet, 24x7 access, meeting spaces, and the required hi-tech features will be available at the pods. The plan is to construct a three-storey structure, with the project estimated to cost around Rs 6 crore.
KSUM CEO Anoop P Ambika said the project is in the final stages and is expected to be completed in eight months.
'We have shortlisted four startups that have come forward to invest in the project. We will be finalising the design soon. By aligning Kerala's vibrant startup ecosystem with our tourism vision, KSUM's collaboration with the tourism department is not just about tech. It's about transforming tourism into a canvas for design-led innovation, creative entrepreneurship, and cultural expression,' Anoop said.
According to KSUM officials, many companies in India and abroad are exploring such options for their employees for both brainstorming ideas and work.
'The startup pods will help generate opportunities for the state too. Those coming here will have a direct connect with KSUM and they can launch startups in Kerala,' an official said.

According to a report in The Times of India, Rakshith M V, a resident of ITI Layout, Papareddipalya, Bengaluru, joined Locus IT Services Pvt Ltd in September 2016 and resigned in August 2020. In December 2019, the firm assigned him to a client project in Kampala, Uganda. The assignment, however, ran into delays. Rakshith alleged that he was 'stranded' in Uganda until July 2020, receiving neither financial assistance nor technical support despite 'repeated requests'. He further claimed that his salary and allowances were suddenly halved during the extended stay and that the company continued deducting Rs 3,600 every month towards provident fund contributions, which were never deposited. On top of this, expenses on domestic travel and other charges amounting to nearly Rs 3 lakh were never reimbursed, the TOI reported. According to Rakshith, the managing director of the company had conveyed decisions, including the pay cut and his prolonged stay, only through verbal communication. 'There was no formal email trail, leaving me with no written proof,' he said. After resigning, Rakshith issued a legal notice in September 2021, but it was returned 'unclaimed.' He went on to file a civil suit in January 2022, demanding reimbursement and release of his certificates. The company, represented by its managing director Rohith Kudukuli, denied all allegations and accused Rakshith of absconding mid-project. However, additional city civil and sessions judge Shivanand Maruti Jipare ruled in Rakshith's favour, directing the firm to clear his dues with 6 per cent annual interest and hand over his certificates, the report added. While the court acknowledged that the company had shown Rakshith left Uganda without approval, it observed that this did not justify withholding his dues or crucial documents. The judge said such actions had caused him 'irreparable hardship' and put his career at risk.

Enzyme Offices looks to double revenue this fiscal, plans ₹50 cr investment
Flexible and managed workspace provider Enzyme Offices looks to double its revenue in the current fiscal to around Rs 150 crore and targets an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of Rs 200 crore by 2026-27, a top company official said on Tuesday. The company aims to double its revenue in the current financial year from the current Rs 75 crore, driven by strong demand from both global capability centres (GCCs) and leading Indian startups, Ashish Agarwal, Founder & CEO of Enzyme Offices said. "Enzyme Offices looks to achieve Rs 200 crore ARR by FY27, supported by a planned Rs 50 crore investment in expanding operations, enhancing infrastructure, and strengthening technology capabilities," Agarwal said. ARR refers to the recurring revenue of a business's contract, normalised for a year. Agarwal said that the company has witnessed remarkable journeys companies starting with just 20-30 seats and scaling to over 600 seats within Enzyme. Vyapar, Teachmint, Dukaan, Avin Systems, and Stellar Innovations are among its clients, Agarwal added. Agarwal said that the company recently handed over multiple large-format office spaces to marquee clients, including the handover of a nearly 1 lakh sq. ft. workspace to Vyapar, one of India's fastest-growing startups, generating a monthly rental income of Rs 1 crore. Enzyme Offices offers flexible and managed workspaces in India, catering to enterprises, startups, and SMEs.

Microsoft may soon let you stream Xbox games for free with ads: Details
Microsoft has hinted that it might be exploring ways for gamers to get access to Xbox cloud gaming in a more affordable manner. Jason Ronald, vice president of Xbox Gaming Devices and Ecosystem at Microsoft, in a recent podcast, said that a number of players use Game Pass Ultimate to access the cloud, which opens up the opportunity for the company to make it more affordable and accessible to players. Ronald at the company's official Xbox podcast said: 'One of the things we see is there's a lot of players who use Game Pass Ultimate to access the cloud, whether that's the primary way they play, or an additional way to play on the go. I think for us, it really opens up the opportunity to make it much more affordable, and make it more accessible to players. Whether that's going into new regions, or new ways to actually access the [Xbox] cloud.' Xbox cloud gaming at no cost in exchange for ads There had been rumours in the past regarding Microsoft working on a separate 'dedicated' version of Xbox cloud gaming. According to The Verge, Microsoft Gaming Chief Financial Officer Tim Stuart has also earlier hinted that there might be a free version of Xbox cloud gaming in the works which would let gamers stream a game for some time in exchange for viewing ads. The Verge quoted Stuart as saying: 'The vision I like to talk about is we have xCloud game streaming, so you can subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate and you can stream hundreds of games to really any endpoint that has a browser experience. For models like Africa, or India, Southeast Asia, maybe places that aren't console-first, you can say, 'hey, do you want to watch 30 seconds of an ad and then get two hours of game streaming?'' At present, Indian consumers have to pay Rs 829 per month to have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which offers access to cloud gaming. If this new model comes to light then the price might drop to zero, with the only compromise being of watching a few ads every now and then. In other related news, Nvidia has rolled out an update for its GeForce Now cloud gaming platform, set to take effect in September. The service will transition to the Blackwell architecture, introducing RTX 5080-level GPUs, support for DLSS 4, and access to a larger catalogue of up to 4,500 games. The update also adds device-specific improvements, such as 5K resolution support on LG OLED monitors and 90fps streaming on the Steam Deck.
