Oppo Reno 14 Pro Review: A beautifully balanced phone

The Hindu7 days ago
Just a few months ago we saw the launch of the Oppo Reno 13 series. Now, we have the latest Oppo Reno 14 Pro, a variant from the 14th series, launched this month. With such a short gap between launches, the obvious question is how much Oppo has actually changed this time around. On paper, the Reno 14 Pro brings a bold design refresh, packs in the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 processor, flaunts a brighter and smoother display, a beefier battery, faster charging, and a fresh suite of AI smart features, all pointing toward a well-rounded upgrade over its predecessor. But how do these upgrades hold up in real-world use? Let's dive in and find out.
Design
At first glance, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro carries forward the sleek, sophisticated look of its predecessor. But spend a moment with the Pearl White variant, and you'll notice something captivating — a swirling interplay of light and shadow across the back, thanks to the Gradient Aura Design. While this visual flair might seem unnecessary, it certainly grabs attention and adds a refined charm to the phone's aesthetic. It's Oppo's way of making sure your device doesn't just blend in.
In the hand, the Reno 14 Pro feels impressively smooth, thanks to Oppo Velvet Glass, a finish that combines a silk-like texture with anti-fingerprint resistance. The one-piece sculpted rear lends a seamless, premium touch. Despite its glass build, the phone feels neither too slippery nor bulky. The aerospace-grade aluminium frame further boosts the durability factor while maintaining a slim profile of 7.58mm for the Pearl White variant and 7.48mm for the Titanium Grey variant, both weighing just around 201g. The placement of the power button and volume rockers is ergonomic, and the tactile feedback is spot on.
Flip it over, and the front continues the elegance with an ultra-thin 1.6mm bezels surrounding the expansive OLED display. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor and trio of IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications offering dust resistance, water immersion protection, and even resistance against high-pressure water jets.

Display
The Reno 14 Pro features a 6.83-inch LTPS OLED panel with a 1272 x 2800 resolution, supporting a dynamic 60/90/120 Hz refresh rate. The display hits 600 nits of typical brightness, ramps up to 1200 nits in high-brightness mode, and comes certified with HDR10+. Whether you're binge-watching HDR content or gaming in bright conditions, the visuals are vivid, sharp, and smooth.
With features like Adaptive Tone for ambient light adjustment and 3840 Hz PWM dimming, eye strain is significantly reduced, and especially during prolonged use. Compared to the OnePlus Nord 4, the Reno 14 Pro offers a notably brighter and more immersive display, making it a solid companion for media consumption and gaming alike.
OS and AI
Running on ColorOS 15, the Reno 14 Pro feels polished right out of the box. It brings the Trinity Engine for optimised CPU and GPU performance and the Luminous Rendering Engine, ensuring fluid animations and responsive controls. Thanks to smart caching and performance management, the system maintains its smoothness even when used extensively.
On the AI front, the Reno 14 Pro pushes boundaries. With AI VoiceScribe for real-time translations and summaries, AI Call Summary, and AI Mind Space for smart content management, it feels like a genuinely helpful assistant. The deep integration with Google Gemini across Oppo apps like Notes and Calendar adds a layer of convenience that stands out in day-to-day tasks.
Performance
Powering the Reno 14 Pro is the MediaTek Dimensity 8450, a chipset built on the 4nm process clocking up to 3.25 GHz. It is a curious choice from Oppo, especially when competitors like the similarly priced OnePlus 13s and the Poco F7 are flexing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform and the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, respectively.
Still, the Reno 14 Pro holds its ground. With 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage, multitasking is seamless, and the phone rarely breaks a sweat during daily tasks. The Geekbench scores — 1623 single-core, 6402 multi-core, GPU score of 11827, and AnTuTu score of 1637028 — suggest reliable performance, though clearly outclassed by the OnePlus 13s and the more budget-friendly POCO F7 with their beefier numbers.
When it comes to gaming, titles like COD Mobile and BGMI run at high settings effortlessly, with fluid frame rates and no noticeable throttling. Oppo's AI Adaptive Temperature Control and Nano Dual-Drive Cooling keep the phone comfortably cool, even during long gaming sessions. The AI Game Highlights and Footstep Sound Boost features round off a pretty solid gaming experience, though if you're chasing benchmark bragging rights, this isn't the segment leader.
Camera
If there's one department where the Oppo Reno 14 Pro confidently claims the spotlight, it's the camera. On paper, a quad 50 MP camera setup comprising a main lens, ultra-wide, 3.5x telephoto, and a 50 MP front shooter sounds impressive. But it's in real-world use where this setup truly shines.
The 50 MP main camera delivers crisp, vibrant images with outstanding contrast and lifelike color tones. Whether you're shooting bustling street scenes or serene landscapes, the Reno 14 Pro ensures every shot pops with clarity and depth. The dynamic range is well-balanced, avoiding blown-out highlights or crushed shadows.
Low-light photography is where Oppo's AI wizardry makes its mark. With the new AI Flash Photography paired with a Triple AI Flash System, even challenging lighting conditions feel easy. The difference is instantly noticeable — low-light shots appear brighter, sharper, and remarkably detailed, without sacrificing the mood of the scene. Shadows stay natural, highlights don't wash out, and faces retain their true skin tones. Whether at a dimly lit party or on a late-night city stroll, this phone captures moments with a finesse that genuinely surprised us.
The 50 MP 3.5x telephoto lens is a gem for portrait lovers. Tuned to hit that golden focal length sweet spot, it flatters facial features and nails depth perception beautifully. Portrait shots consistently came out with a nice background blur, sharp subject focus, and a richness in skin tones.
On the selfie front, the 50 MP autofocus camera delivers outstanding results. Selfies pack in sharp details even in indoor lighting, with Oppo's AI algorithms ensuring that skin tones remain natural and not over-smoothened or artificially brightened. The front camera also features an AI Vlog Voice Enhancer, making it perfect for content creators.
And then come the AI tools: AI Perfect Shot for fixing blinked eyes, AI Recompose for reframing, AI Unblur, and even an AI Reflection Remover that works surprisingly well. Add to this the Underwater Photography Mode, which lets you capture photos and even 4K videos underwater — no extra case needed. Honestly, Oppo has loaded the Reno 14 Pro with camera features that don't just tick boxes but actually deliver, giving this phone a solid claim to being one of the best camera phones in its segment.
Battery
The phone packs a massive 6,200 mAh battery, the largest ever on a Reno device. It comfortably supports two days of typical use. Even with heavy usage, you're likely to get through a full day with enough power to spare.
For charging, the company has given 80 W SUPERVOOC fast charging, taking the phone from 0% to 100% in around 50 minutes. For those who prefer going wireless, 50 W AirVOOC wireless charging is a welcome addition, rounding off a solid battery and charging experience.
Verdict
Oppo Reno 14 Pro is a beautifully balanced phone — a head-turner in design, backed by a stellar camera system, reliable AI features, and a dependable battery. Personally, had this been a slightly more compact device, it might have been a real eye-catcher.
Starting at ₹49,999, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro finds itself in tricky waters. The performance feels average compared to what the OnePlus 13s and the Poco F7 offer at similar or lower price points. If Oppo had priced this more aggressively, the Reno 14 Pro could have been an easy recommendation.
Still, if style, camera prowess, and smart features are what you're after and you can accept average performance for the price, the Reno 14 Pro does a commendable job. It's clear: this is a phone that doubles down on design and AI, while leaving pure performance to the competition.

'Many new devices were launched in Q2, particularly in April and May, with some launches possibly being strategic shifts rather than direct delays from the March quarter.''While specific numbers are still being compiled, the expectation is that more launches occurred in Q2 than in Q1 this year,' he to IDC, brands significantly added inventory in the June quarter, particularly through offline retail channels.'Offline heavy brands like Vivo/Oppo continue to support offline channels with extra margins and schemes to liquidate old stocks and even on new launches, thus preparing ahead of the upcoming festive season,' said Upasana Joshi, senior research manager, and Oppo saw sustained growth in the first half of 2025, growing 31% and 24% on-year respectively, according to Canalys. Indian smartphone market grows 7 per cent, iPhone 16 drives Apple's numbers

India's smartphone market saw a healthy recovery in the second quarter of 2025, with total shipments reaching 39 million units, which is a 7 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase. The rebound follows a quiet first quarter and was largely driven by a slew of new launches and improved channel activity. According to a report by Canalys (now part of Omdia), while Chinese brands continued to dominate the top five spots, Apple stood out with over half its shipments driven by the iPhone 16 series, despite finishing sixth led the market during the quarter, shipping 8.1 million units and securing a 21 per cent share. The company's success was supported by strong offline campaigns and deeper distribution, especially in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. 'Vivo's new launches were widely embraced by channels, driven by strong partnerships,' said Sanyam Chaurasia, Principal Analyst at Canalys. The company's V50 series performed well in larger cities, while the Y-series remained a popular pick in smaller followed in second place with 6.2 million units shipped and a market share of 16 per cent. Oppo and Xiaomi tied at 13 per cent market share each, with 5 million units sold. However, compared to the previous quarter, Oppo's shipments have grown by 24 per cent, while Xiaomi's have plummeted by 25 per cent. Finally, realme came in at the fifth spot, with 3.6 million smartphones shipped and a market share of 9 per cent. Apple's sixth-place finish may not seem impressive at first glance, but there was clear interest in its current-generation models. The iPhone 16 series made up more than 55 per cent of Apple's total shipments in the quarter. However, the iPhone 16e — the most affordable version in the lineup — did not perform as well. 'The iPhone 16e lost momentum post-launch, as consumers questioned the value of its single-camera design and largely unrealised Apple Intelligence features,' Chaurasia brands have also contributed to the mid-range and premium smartphone space in India. Motorola, which ranked seventh, focused on expanding its reach in smaller cities. Infinix gained popularity among young buyers, especially with its design-forward marketing and gaming campaigns. Nothing continued its growth story, with a 229 per cent YoY jump driven by models like the Phone 3a Pro and CMF Phone 2 forward, the Indian smartphone market will likely depend more on channel activity than new product launches in the second half of 2025. Chaurasia noted that 'brands are actively locking inventory with distributors and retailers through channel incentive programs ahead of the upcoming festive season.' Canalys expects these efforts to boost short-term sales, but projects a modest overall decline for the full year due to structural demand challenges.- Ends

Oppo K13x 5G review: Is it the best mobile phone under ₹12000 with a big battery?

Oppo K13x 5G review: Oppo's K series has been in the market for quite some time, bringing powerful specifications and features at an affordable price. The affordable series has been going strong for a good three years, offering value-for-money phones in the Indian market. Oppo K13x shines in the budget segment with reliable performance and a rugged build at an affordable price of under ₹ 12,000.(Aishwarya Panda-HT) Now, in 2025, Oppo has been gradually launching Oppo K13 5G series devices, with the latest being the K13x 5G in India. Since it's a budget-friendly smartphone, I did not have many expectations from the device, but surprisingly, the Oppo K13x is a perfect day-to-day companion. From offering a rugged build to swiftly managing multitasking, it showcased a promising experience, but not without a few bottlenecks. I have been using the Oppo K13x 5G for about 3 weeks, and the smartphone beautifully manages moderate performance, offers a promising battery life, and comes with a punchy display, which is perfect for OTT views. However, the smartphone struggles in a few areas, including camera, software, and a few more. Therefore, if you are looking for a reliable budget phone, know if the Oppo K13x should be on your list or not. It also offers military-grade certifications for durability. (Aishwarya Panda-HT ) The Oppo K13x 5G flaunts several durability features that make it more attractive. However, in terms of design, the smartphone comes with a very simplistic design with a matte finish rear panel and a plastic frame. It has a boxy look, but it weighs only 194 grams. Overall, the Opoo K13x 5G offers a promising in-hand feel. For durability, the smartphone offers an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance, as well as military-grade certifications, ensuring that the device can withstand minor bumps. Considering it's a budget smartphone, I would recommend carrying it cautiously, especially if you're prone to clumsiness. Coming to the display, the Oppo K13x 5G features a 6.67-inch LCD display with HD resolution, an 84.9% screen-to-body ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of up to 850 nits. In real-time usage, the display feels quite vibrant, and colours appear mostly accurate when watching content on YouTube or Netflix. The brightness levels of the smartphone were also promising, and I did not have any problem using the smartphone outdoors in daylight conditions. Therefore, the Oppo K13x offers quite a good display experience at Rs. 11999. In addition, the 120Hz refresh rate is the cherry on top since the usability gets smoother with swift navigation and scrolling. Oppo K13x 5G review: Camera Oppo K13x 5G features a dual camera setup that includes a 50MP main sensor.(Aishwarya Panda-HT) The Oppo K13x 5G features a dual camera setup that includes a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. While the specs look decent on paper, the camera performance falls short. The daylight images appear fine with vibrant tones and sharpness, but the colours are faded and not very accurate, making the images look very faded. The smartphone also struggles to balance out the white tones, and it is mostly on the cooler side. The low-light images also have a grainy effect, and the faded persists. But, somehow, colour remains punchy if the scene is well-lit. Therefore, I was not quite convinced by the Oppo K13x camera performance. There are several budget phones in the market that offer better quality images with colour accuracy and warm tones. Also read: iPhone 18 Pro likely to ditch Dynamic Island for under-display Face ID- Details Oppo K13x 5G review: Performance Oppo K13x 5G offers a reliable performance with the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor(Aishwarya Panda-HT) The Oppo K13x 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor paired with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, which is sufficient for a budget phone. Coming to real-life performance, the smartphone offered a smooth and lag-free experience with day-to-day usage such as browsing, scrolling on social media, OTT viewing, light gaming and others. For intensive gaming, Oppo also offers Game Mode and Game Toolkit, which boost the smartphone's performance, but after 30 minutes of gaming, the smartphone struggles to offer an optimum frame rate, and the experience gets slightly choppy. Therefore, I recommend light gaming on lower graphics settings on the Oppo K13x should not be a problem, and the device also runs smoothly. The Oppo K13x 5G runs on ColorOS 15 based on Android 15, offering all the latest UI features such as Smart Sidebar, floating windows, Split screen, etc. But the bloatware is annoying and cluttered. With the budget phone, Oppo is offering 2 years of OS upgrades and 3 years of security patches, which is quite promising. Oppo K13x 5G review: Battery This budget phone is backed by a 6000mAh battery.(Aishwarya Panda-HT) The Oppo K13x 5G is backed by a massive 6000mAh battery that easily lasts an entire day with a single charge. You can easily get up to 10 hours of usage with medium to heavy usage, which is quite impressive for a budget smartphone. In terms of charging, the smartphone supports 45W charging, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to fully charge the device from 0 to 100%. Oppo K13x 5G 5G review: Verdict Oppo K13x comes with some impressive features and specifications at under Rs. 12000. The display is crisp, the day-to-day performance is smooth, it offers a longer battery life, and finally has a rugged and attractive design, making it an all-rounder smartphone. However, the smartphone also has shortcomings when it comes to camera performance and the heavy bloatware, which makes the experience slightly choppy, but considering the price tag, the Oppo K13x 5G is quite a reliable smartphone for daily functions.
