Nyree Huyser & Play Drama Workshops To Release Heartfelt Charity Single 'Version Of You' In Aid Of Youthline NZ

Scoop3 days ago
Acclaimed vocalist Nyree Huyser has teamed up with local drama school, PLAY! Drama Workshops, to release an uplifting new charity single entitled 'Version Of You', available on all streaming platforms from September 5, 2025. With 100% of proceeds going to Youthline NZ, the single aims to raise awareness and support for youth mental health across Aotearoa.
' Version of You ' was born during a transformative holiday workshop led by PLAY! Drama Workshops, a creative space designed to nurture self-expression in young performers. During the workshop, students opened up about themes of self-worth, identity, and mental health before taking a day trip to a local studio to record their vocals. Together with Nyree, the young artists co-created a track that they hope will send positivity and love to their young community.

'This song is more than just a melody – it's a message,' says Nyree. 'Working alongside these incredible young performers was so special, it's astonishing to understand the mental struggle so many young people still face today that doesn't necessarily show on the outside. We hope this song reminds every young person listening that they are not alone, that with support things can and will get better.'
With soaring vocals and encouraging lyrics, 'Version Of You' captures both the vulnerability and resilience of today's youth. The words are cradled by a beautiful acoustic guitar piece volunteered by renowned Auckland-based guitarist and musical director, Dixon Nacey. The song was recorded, produced and mastered by kiwi podcaster, Stephen Garton, free of charge at his Ashburton-based studio. This entire collaboration shines a spotlight on the importance of open conversation around mental health – a mission that aligns perfectly with the work of Youthline NZ, who have been supporting young Kiwis through counselling, mentoring, and crisis services for over 50 years.
'We're proud to support Youthline through this project,' adds Nickie Tabukovu, founder of PLAY! Drama Workshops. 'Our young performers poured their hearts into this, and we hope it helps spark more conversations in homes, schools, and communities.'
'Version Of You' will be available to stream and purchase from September 5 on all major platforms. Listeners are encouraged to download and/or donate, with all funds going to Youthline NZ.

Godfather director in Rome hospital

Francis Ford Coppola, the acclaimed American director of The Godfather movies and Apocalypse Now , has undergone a non-emergency medical procedure at a Rome hospital and says he is fine. "Mr Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure with acclaimed Dr Andrea Natale, his doctor of over 30 years, and is resting nicely," a representative said in response to Italian media reports that the director was hospitalised. "All is well." The 86-year-old filmmaker was admitted on Tuesday to the Policlinico Tor Vergata, a public hospital in the Italian capital, news agency ANSA reported. The United States-based representative declined to give any details about the nature of Coppola's medical procedure, but said: "There was not an emergency. He went to the hospital in a car." Coppola posted a photograph of himself on Instagram appearing relaxed and smiling with a message reassuring fans, "I am well." "Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine, taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30-year-old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor - Dr Andrea Natale," it said. He did not elaborate further. His US representative specifically disputed as "not true" a report from the Italian website that Coppola had suffered atrial fibrillation, a type of irregular heartbeat, before entering the operating room for what was to have been a long-planned surgical procedure. A spokesperson for the hospital did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. Coppola was in Italy to promote his latest movie, the sci-fi epic Megalopolis , a $US120 million ($NZ203 million) self-funded production about a visionary architect's quest to transform a fictional future version of New York City called New Rome into a utopian community. The film, which has drawn mixed reviews and struggled at the box office following its 2024 debut at the Cannes Film Festival, was reported to have received a special screening at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Catanzaro, Italy. The Italian-American director, who has won five Academy Awards, four of them for his work on the first two films in The Godfather trilogy, widely considered by cinema buffs to rank among the greatest movies of all time.

The result is Grace: A Prayer for Peace - a feature length documentary about Dame Robin White, which had its premiere at the International Film Festival on Sunday night - with another screening on Friday in Auckland. Other screenings will be held around the country as the festival moves south. Susie Ferguson talks with Dame Robin and Dame Gaylene about their film, their friendship and the art of collaboration.
