Farmer Leaders Thank Modi Govt For Resisting US Trade Tactics, Protecting India's Agricultural Interests
A large gathering of farmer organisation leaders and cultivators from across the country met the Union Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, at Subrahmanyam Hall, Pusa Campus, New Delhi, to express their gratitude and support for the central government's decisive action to protect farmers' interests. Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary, Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr ML Jat, and representatives from various states also attended the meeting.
Several representatives of farmer organisations expressed their collective gratitude towards the Prime Minister for this historic, farmer-friendly decision.
Representatives of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, including Harpaal Singh Dagar, Dharmendra Malik, Dharmendra Choudhary, Virendra Lohan, Kirpa Singh Natthuwala, Kuldeep Singh Bajidpur, Baba Rajendra Singh Malik, Tarunesh Sharma, KP Singh Thainua, Acharya Ramgopal Walia, Vinod Anand, Rajkumar Balyan, Ashok Balyan, Vipichandra R Patel, Rampal Jat, Krishnaveer Choudhary, Bhupendra Singh Mann, and K Sai Reddy, expressed their thanks to the Prime Minister for his bold steps.
Dharmendra Choudhary, National President of the Indian Farmer Chaudhary Charan Singh Organisation, said, 'Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has made an unwavering statement in the interest of farmers, livestock rearers, and fishermen. India will not compromise their interests at any cost. This announcement brings relief to millions of food providers and strengthens the self-reliance of agriculture and rural India. We wholeheartedly welcome and support this far-sighted and farmer-friendly vision, which will inspire future generations."
Virendra Lohan of the Chhattisgarh Youth Progressive Farmers' Association said, 'The courageous decision not to allow American companies into our agriculture and dairy sectors is echoing in every field, village, and cowshed. You have shown that the Indian farmer is not just a food provider but the very soul of this nation, a soul no foreign power can ever control. You have assured us that as long as the current leadership is in Delhi, no force can enslave India's farmers. I also thank Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for his action against fake fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides."
Dharmendra Malik said, 'We thank the Prime Minister and the Agriculture Minister and appeal to you to stand firm on your stance and not change our policies on free trade. We will always stand by you."
Kirpa Singh Natthuwala said, 'We were very worried about American pressure on the agreement. If it had gone through, farmers would have been ruined. But the PM and Agriculture Minister took a tough decision in the farmers' interests. This has filled farmers in Punjab and across the nation with pride. I tell all citizens, farmers, and traders—whatever America says, it will not harm us. Agriculture Minister, congratulations; the farmers of the nation stand with you."
Kuldeep Singh Bajidpur from Punjab praised the PM and Agriculture Minister, saying that the government is taking many steps for farmers' welfare, which are changing their lives. He expressed hope that stronger steps would follow, so farmers would not have to look towards countries like the US.
In his address, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the gathering represented a miniature India. 'I salute you, my farmer brothers here, who work day and night to feed not just India but the world. Grain is life, grain is divine. The farmer is both the provider and the giver of life. For me, serving farmers is worship of God, and there is no greater worship than this."
Chouhan reiterated that the government would soon bring in a new law to take strict action against those producing fake fertilisers and chemicals. He said various schemes for farmers' welfare are being advanced on priority. Just yesterday (August 11), digital payment of insurance amounts was made to farmers from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Highlighting the PM's 'Nation First' resolve, Chouhan said the cancellation of the Indus Waters Treaty after the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack was a historic decision, for which the whole nation is grateful to the Prime Minister.
The Union Agriculture Minister emphasised that the PM has always taken strong, bold, nation-centric decisions, for which the country will forever remain indebted.

ED freezes ₹110 crore linked to illegal betting platform Parimatch
MUMBAI: The Mumbai unit of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has frozen ₹110 crore lying in mule bank accounts in connection with a money-laundering probe into Cyprus-based illegal betting platform Parimatch. The action followed coordinated searches at 17 locations across the country on Tuesday, including Mumbai, Surat, Delhi, Noida, Kanpur, Madurai and Hyderabad. ED freezes ₹ 110 crore linked to illegal betting platform Parimatch The platform, owned by a Ukrainian national abroad, allegedly amassed nearly ₹3,000 crore from Indian users in 2023-24 alone, luring them with promises of high returns before defrauding them, ED officials said on Thursday. According to investigators, the frozen funds—proceeds of crime—were parked in multiple mule accounts used to layer and divert money to various recipients. Searches also led to the seizure of incriminating documents, digital devices and 1,200 credit cards linked to mule accounts. Complex laundering network The ED's probe, based on a complaint by the cyber police station in Mumbai, has uncovered a multi-layered laundering operation. In south India, user deposits were allegedly funnelled into mule accounts and withdrawn in cash in parts of Tamil Nadu, before being handed to hawala operators. These operators then recharged virtual wallets of a UK-based firm, which were used to buy USDT cryptocurrency in mule accounts run by Parimatch agents. In western India, Parimatch allegedly used Domestic Money Transfer agents to collect betting funds in mule accounts and channel them back through credit card transactions. Investigators have also flagged payment companies whose Payment Aggregator licence applications were rejected by the Reserve Bank of India. These firms allegedly provided backend services to Parimatch disguised as Technology Service Providers (TSPs), offering Application Programming Interface (API) access to integrate mule accounts—often opened in the names of e-commerce and payment service firms—into the platform. The funds were then 'masked' as e-commerce refunds, vendor payments and other routine expenses to obscure their origin and movement, officials said. Aggressive promotion in India To attract customers, Parimatch invested heavily in marketing, sponsoring sports tournaments and tying up with celebrities. Indian-registered entities—'Parimatch Sports' and 'Parimatch News'—were allegedly used for surrogate advertising, funded through foreign remittances. A city - based businessman, who is the complainant in the Mumbai police's case, alleged that he had lost around ₹12.22 crore at the accused illegal platform and its allied applications due to their 'non adherence to fairplay'. The businessman claimed he got attracted to the accused gaming platform's claims related to high returns, sometime in 2021, after noticing its advertisements and celebrity endorsements for it on a social media platform. 'All of us who have lost any money on the accused platform should be compensated,' the complainant told HT.

"Even your PDA (Picchda, Dalit Alpsankhyak) narrative is 'namoona' (sample) of that self-interest," Yogi said speaking on floor of UP assembly. In a jibe at SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for his 'PDA' slogan , said it was "Parivar Development Authority". "The vision of opposition was like that of a "frog in a pond" which can't see beyond a limit," he added. He said while the world was witnessing fierce competition, opposition was only limited to its "family". "And you want to take the state in that direction," Yogi said. His remark was sharp retort to opposition benches, which have questioned fulfilment of promises BJP made to people in the last eight years. Adityanath said UP had all resources to develop before 2017. "But the state faced hampered growth because of policy paralysis," he said, stressing decline of UP, which started after 1980, became even more serious after 1990. "Once a prosperous state, UP became a BIMARU state," he said, stressing policies framed by then state govts lacked political will and transparency. He also slammed the opposition for being responsible for the migration of people and the death of children because of the lack of medical facilities. He categorically pointed out the deaths caused by encephalitis, dengue, and other serious diseases. Yogi said corruption and discrimination, 'Bhai-Bhatijawaad', dominated in govt jobs. "All that changed after 2017. Rule of law was established. There has been zero tolerance for crime and criminals and secure environment for investors. Development projects like airports, expressways, and metro rail projects were implemented," he said, underscoring how govt ensured benefits for farmers and socio-economically deprived sections "with no discrimination or appeasement". Yogi said PM Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas' played key role in determining direction of the state's growth trajectory. "Today, UP is known for good governance, robust law and order, peace and tranquillity…," he said. He sought to divide period from 1947 to 2047 into two parts – between 1947 and 2017 and between 2017 and 2047. He said though the national GDP of India was less than 2% of global scale, the country was sixth-largest economy in the world. "It slipped to 10th place in 1960 and 11th position between 1980 and 2014," he said, adding, situation changed in 2014 when PM Modi assumed office. "India bounced back to 7th position in 2017, 5th position in 2024, and in 2025 it is 4th biggest economy," he said. "This shows meaning of 'Vision document'," he said. Likewise, he said UP's contribution to national GDP went down from 14% in 1960-61 to just 8% in 2016-17. Yogi said per capita income, which was equivalent to the national average in 1947, plunged to one-third. "Exports were only Rs 84,000 crore and state was dependent on Central taxes (around 56%)," he said. He said state GSDP grew to Rs 13 lakh crore between 1947 and 2017. "But between 2017 and 2025 it has touched a mark of Rs 35 lakh crore," he said. Similarly, UP's contribution to national GDP has grown from 8% to 9.5%. Yogi said economic growth rate of UP was better than national average. The state's per capita income too grew from Rs 43,000 per annum to Rs 1.2 lakh. He said in centenary year of Independence, UP aims to take the PCI beyond the national average. Exports have grown from Rs 84,000 crore to 1.86 lakh crore, and the state budget has jumped from around 3 lakh crore to over Rs 8 lakh crore. He said state dependence on Central taxes reduced from 56% to 46%. "UP is no more BIMARU, but a revenue surplus state," Yogi said. Spelling out various measures initiated for the agricultural sector, Yogi said state accounted for only 10% of total cultivable land but contributed over 14% of the national need for foodgrains. Yogi slammed opposition for staking claim to development projects, saying UP was fast becoming an expressway state in past eight years and hosting 16 domestic and four international airports. He said from 1947 to 2017, power sector struggled with limited capacity and irregular supply, and total production capacity was only 12,000 MW, insufficient to meet needs of industry, agriculture, and domestic consumption, especially in rural areas where irrigation, education, and small industries were affected by no electricity. Govt is successfully meeting the demand that has more than doubled, he said. From 2017 to 2025, power generation capacity increased by 8,000 MW, due to which the total capacity has now increased to more than 20,000 MW.
