Headline Sponsor Announced for Wales Business Awards 2025
Bevan Buckland LLP, Wales' largest independent accountancy firm, has been announced as the headline sponsor of the Wales Business Awards 2025.
The awards, organised by Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid, celebrate the best of Welsh business. Winners across 12 categories, plus the Wales Business of the Year, will be announced at the ceremony which takes place on 12 June at Holland House Hotel, Cardiff and sees broadcaster Andrea Byrne return as host.
As headline sponsor of the event, Bevan Buckland will have a notable presence at the ceremony and drinks reception, as well as opportunities to connect with dignitaries, finalists and the Welsh business community.
With a history spanning over 125 years, the firm is a familiar fixture of the professional services sector across Wales, operating from offices in Carmarthen, Cowbridge, Haverfordwest, Pembroke and headquartered in Swansea.
Bevan Buckland has grown rapidly over the past few years, employing 140 staff and providing a full range of services. The firm provides accountancy, audit, tax, corporate finance and financial planning services for individuals, businesses and not-for-profit organisations to help them achieve their goals.
The firm works with a diverse range of sectors including construction and property, charity and not-for-profit, creative industries, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and ecommerce, and small businesses and startups.

Application Deadline Nears for Energy and Carbon Management Apprenticeship
Jemma Parsons, Head of The Green skills Academy at Coleg Sir Gar The deadline is approaching for Welsh employers to apply for a fully funded apprenticeship at Coleg Sir Gâr which aims to upskill teams with the green skills. The college, which offers the fully funded Level 3 Energy and Carbon Management Apprenticeship as part of their Green Skills Academy, has put out a final call for applications to be made by June 20. Limited places are available. The college says that high demand from across the region highlights that many businesses recognise the need to upskill their teams with the knowledge that will ensure they comply with the environmental and legal requirements needed to reach their net zero goals. The brand-new apprenticeship course offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, making it suitable for new recruits as well as existing members of staff. Expert training allows apprentices to learn to identify opportunities to lower energy costs and carbon emissions through improved efficiencies. Designed to minimise time spent away from regular duties, the 18-month part-time course is suitable for employees at all levels and only requires apprentices to spend two days per month training at the Green Skills Academy. Fully funded spaces available for eligible learners. Anyone over the age of 18, who lives in Wales, and is in employment and not in any other funded full-time course, can register their interest in the apprenticeship. The Green Skills Academy training equips employees with the expertise needed to drive energy efficiency and sustainability in the workplace to strengthen their organisation's commitment to net zero goals and carbon reduction. The list of major local employers registering their teams for apprenticeship places includes Carmarthenshire County Council, Axium Process Ltd, LBS Builders Merchants and Barcud. Swansea Building Society Launches New Mobile App
Swansea Building Society has officially launched its new mobile app. The new digital service marks a significant step forward for the Society it said, enabling customers to transfer funds between existing Society accounts, withdraw funds to nominated accounts (subject to account terms), and set and monitor personal savings goals. The platform also gives users access to mortgage information, secure messaging with the Society's team, and the ability to manage marketing preferences and voting options for the Society's AGM. In doing so, Swansea Building Society becomes the first Welsh building society to offer a dedicated savings app — which it described as another milestone in its journey to deliver greater accessibility for members across Wales and beyond. Initially launched via the web in early April, followed by an iOS release in May, the app is now also available on Android devices. It can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Security has been a core focus during the app's development, which spanned 12 to 18 months. The result is an app that includes biometric authentication such as Face ID and Touch ID. Throughout the development process, Swansea Building Society said it aimed to provide a high-quality, secure user experience while maintaining the core values that set the Society apart. It said that while this new service offers convenience and flexibility for customers who prefer to manage their finances digitally, it is intended to enhance — not replace — the Society's longstanding commitment to personal, face-to-face service through its branch network. Nick Longar, Head of IT at Swansea Building Society, said: 'We developed the app and online platform using a phased approach to ensure everything met our standards for usability and security. It's a major advancement for the Society, giving our customers access to their accounts in a way that suits their lifestyle — all while keeping their information safe and secure.' The Society remains one of the few financial institutions in the UK that receives no wholesale funding or support from the Bank of England in the form of cheap funding. Coleg Cambria Learners Recognised at Wales Food and Drink Awards

Learners from the college – which has sites in Wrexham, Deeside, Northop and Llysfasi – excelled in reaching the finals of the fourth annual Wales Food and Drink Awards. Nicola Culkin, a Quality Manager at Knolton Farmhouse Cheese in Wrexham, won the Apprentice of the Year title. Naomi Spaven – lead baker and patisserie chef at Coleg Cambria's Iâl Bakery in Wrexham – was highly commended for Rising Star. Also representing Cambria were Iâl Bakery apprentice Ella Muddiman, a baker and pastry chef, Tilly Squire from Village Bakery and Maelor Foods' Belinda Rossouw, all nominated in the Rising Star category. Work-based Learning Manager Kate Muddiman congratulated the quintet for the hard work and dedication they have shown in being included among the sector's best. 'They have all done amazingly well, we are incredibly proud of them,' she added. 'It was an amazing occasion and to have five learners representing the college and some of the finest companies in the region was a real honour.' The ceremony, held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, celebrated some of the most innovative and creative food and drink producers in Wales. Businesses had been shortlisted in a range of specialist categories to reflect the diverse nature of the industry in the Welsh economy – one that has gained a global reputation for excellence. Chair of Judges Rhys Iley said: 'It was amazing to hear from so many incredible entrants and businesses – each with their own passion, purpose and challenges. Congratulations to everyone who entered, especially those who made it to the finals.' The Wales Food and Drink Awards were created by founders Liz Brookes, Director of Grapevine Event Management, and broadcaster Sian Lloyd. Meanwhile, Kate was recently a judge at the Tasty Careers Schools Challenge, where pupils from across North Wales were challenged to design food products and dishes that were healthy, sustainable, and commercially viable. Denbigh High School won with their product 'Muffin' Around' – a selection of red pepper and spinach muffins, impressing the judges with concept, taste and sustainability. 'It was a true privilege to judge the competition again this year,' said Kate. 'The growth in North Wales has been phenomenal, and witnessing the incredible confidence and teamwork from these young people was genuinely inspiring. 'The standard was exceptionally high, and I wholeheartedly encourage these talented individuals to consider the dynamic world of food and drink. An apprenticeship in the industry offers a fabulous opportunity to hone these skills and build a rewarding career.'
