Punjab Police opens cyber kiosk for malware analysis in Mohali
The self-service kiosk is designed to scan and sanitise Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as USB drives and external storage, from malicious, banned, or unsafe applications and files.
Inaugurating the cyber kiosk, Special DSP (cybercrime) V Neeraja said, 'This is a public initiative for the citizens which has been set up at four places — in Mohali and CP (commissioner of police) offices in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. Similar cyber kiosks will be set up in other districts as well." Addressing representatives from public welfare and industry associations, Neeraja emphasised that the kiosk provides a quick, secure and free 24×7 service, with each scan taking just 2-5 minutes.
'There is no risk of data leakage – citizens can safely check their devices for malware and remove threats instantly," she said.
The officer also urged people to remain vigilant against cybercrimes and stressed the importance of immediate reporting via the cybercrime helpline – 1930 – or the 'Cyber-Mittar' chatbot on the portal cybercrime.punjabpolice.gov.in.
Jashandeep Singh Gill, SP (cybercrime), said the kiosk identifies IMEI details, SIM information and performs quick and deep scans of applications and internal storage.
'Users can uninstall infected apps, delete harmful files, and generate scan reports instantly. The report can be sent to the user's email or stored on a USB device. The system is user-friendly, secure, and operates through a touch screen interface," he said.
An official statement said that developed by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in collaboration with Arishti Info Labs, the kiosk brings malware analysis directly to the public domain without the need for advanced technical skills.
The cyber kiosk in Mohali has been set up in collaboration with real estate company Omaxe as part of its corporate social responsibility facility, it said. PTI SUN ARI

Manhole death in Bengaluru: 4 held after labourer dies due to toxic fumes
Last Updated: Bengaluru, Jul 22 (PTI) A 31-year-old labourer died hours after allegedly developing breathing difficulties while cleaning a manhole here, with police on Tuesday confirming the arrest of four people in connection with the incident. The deceased, identified as Puttaswamy, a resident of RMC Yard, was engaged in the cleaning work along with another daily wager, Antony, at around 7 pm on July 20 at Akshaya Nagar. The task was assigned by a man named Nagaraju. According to police, neither of the workers was provided safety gear. Upon entering the manhole, both allegedly inhaled toxic gases and began experiencing breathing issues. Though they managed to exit the manhole, no medical assistance was offered despite their complaints of distress, police said. Puttaswamy was found dead at his residence the next morning, police added. Following a complaint from the deceased's father, a case was registered under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and relevant provisions of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act. 56 Bengal Women Promised Jobs In Bengaluru, Rescued From Train. Cops Probe Trafficking Angle
The women did not carry any valid tickets and only had coach numbers stamped on their hands, the officials said. As many as 56 young women were rescued from a Bihar-bound train at New Jalpaiguri station in Siliguri, the officials said on Tuesday. They were aged between 18 and 31, and were rescued from the New Jalpaiguri-Patna Capital Express on Monday night. The women belonged to West Bengal's Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar districts and were lured with false promises of providing jobs at a Bengaluru-based company. However, they were being sent to Bihar by train. Two persons were also arrested from the train, officials said. None of the rescued women were travelling with valid tickets, and there were only coach and berth numbers stamped on their hands, they added. As the RPF personnel carried out a routine check of the train, they turned suspicious after seeing so many young women travelling together. Their questioning brought to the fore inconsistencies. A man and a woman were arrested from the train after they allegedly gave contradictory statements and failed to explain why the women were being sent to Bihar when they had been promised jobs in Bengaluru, the officials said. Indian Man Brutally Assaulted, Stripped In Dublin Just Weeks After Arriving In Ireland
Last Updated: An Indian man in his 40s was violently attacked in Tallaght, Dublin, sustaining serious injuries. An Indian man in his 40s was violently attacked and partially stripped in a suspected racist assault in Tallaght, a suburb of Dublin following which the police launched an investigation into the incident. The man, who arrived in Ireland just three weeks ago, was reportedly beaten by a group of individuals on Parkhill Road. He sustained serious injuries to his face, arms and legs and was taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment. The police said that they were alerted to the assault and have since opened a criminal investigation although no arrests have been made yet. According to The Irish Times, the man was allegedly falsely accused by his attackers of acting inappropriately around children. The police, however, said that there is no evidence supporting these claims. Ambassador, Lawmakers Condemn Attack India's Ambassador to Ireland Akhilesh Mishra condemned the incident on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), questioning the severity of the injuries in what had initially been described as an 'alleged" assault. 'How can an 'ALLEGED' assault cause such horrible injury & bleeding?" he wrote, thanking the Irish police for their support to the victim and urging that the perpetrators be brought to justice. Local Fine Gael councillor for Tallaght South Baby Pereppadan met the victim in hospital and said he was too traumatised to speak, adding, 'He only arrived in Ireland three weeks ago. He is not taking any visitors at the moment." Such attacks are becoming more frequent in Tallaght, he said, noting, 'People need to understand that many Indian people moving to Ireland are here on work permits, to study and work in the healthcare sector or in IT and so on, providing critical skill." Paul Murphy, a People Before Profit TD for the area, criticised the assault, warning that misinformation and xenophobia were contributing factors. He said, 'Responsibility lies not just with those who perpetrated the violence but also with those who have been spreading racist lies. The community is really shocked and outraged and will stand together against violence, hate and division." Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan highlighted the dangers of racial profiling and false accusations against immigrants, saying, 'Increasingly, you hear of people blaming immigrants for crimes. All I can say to you is: I have asked for the statistics and when you look at the prison population of people convicted of offences, the percentage of immigrants in prison is lower than the percentage of immigrants in society.
