Oman makes massive push for renewable energy
Muscat – Oman has announced plans for ten new renewable energy projects between 2027 and 2029 targeting a combined capacity of around 2,300MW. These are part of the sultanate's broader efforts to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Two additional projects, with total capacity of 1,220MW, are also planned by 2029.
The projects align with Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises clean energy and environmental sustainability. The announcement was made during a media briefing organised by Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) under the patronage of H E Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.
Oman currently operates the Dhofar 1 Wind Energy Project of 50MW capacity and Ibri 2 Solar Project generating 500MW. Two major solar projects – Manah 1 and Manah 2 – were launched in 2025, collectively adding 1,000MW to the grid.
By 2027, Oman plans wind and solar energy projects with combined capacity of 1400MW-1450MW. This will expand by 850MW by 2028, going up by a further 1200MW by 2029. The strategy will culminate in 2030 with a solar energy project capable of generating 3,000MW.

A geothermal energy feasibility study is also underway, along with a waste-to-biofuel conversion initiative to supply biofuel for cement production. Additionally, community solar stations are being developed that will utilise health and educational facilities for solar energy generation. A regulatory framework is being drafted to guide energy transmission and foster competition in the electricity market.
Hinai noted the sector's contribution to the economy, with its share of GDP rising from 2.2% in 2020 to 2.5% in 2024. Investments in regulated sectors have re-ached approximately RO2.837bn, with RO773mn allocated for electricity distribution, RO652mn for Oman Electricity Transmission Co, RO192mn for natural gas transmission, RO860mn for water and sanitation, and RO450mn for electricity generation.

Pact signed to build integrated public bus station in Al Buraimi
MUSCAT: Al Buraimi Governorate and national transport operator Mwasalat have signed an agreement to establish a modern, integrated public bus station in the Al Uqda Al Shamaliya area of Al Buraimi. The facility will span 56,000 square metres and aims to enhance the public transport network in line with Oman Vision 2040. The project will feature an eco-friendly design and provide both inter-city and intra-city transport services. Key components include a smart taxi hub, a micro-mobility station, air-conditioned waiting areas, dedicated bus bays, offices for transport operators, retail shops, logistics services, and ample parking for cars and buses. The signing ceremony was held under the auspices of Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shammakhi, Under-Secretary for Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The agreement was signed by Sayyid Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi, and Engineer Badr bin Mohammed al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat. According to the agreement, Mwasalat will act as the technical lead, responsible for the station's design standards, supervision, and eventual operation and management. The governorate will provide funding for infrastructure works and facilitate administrative and regulatory processes, including land use modifications. The site will be designated as the exclusive hub for public transport services in the governorate. Governor Al Busaidi highlighted the project's economic and social impact, stating that the new station will cater to a large number of public transport users. Currently, around 12 daily bus services run on the Muscat–Al Buraimi route, along with cross-border services to Abu Dhabi via Al Buraimi. Mwasalat CEO Al Nadabi added that the agreement also includes investment opportunities, with a tender to be floated for private sector participation. Agreement signed to develop integrated bus public transport hub in Al Buraimi
Muscat - Al Buraimi Governorate and Mwasalat Company today signed a cooperation agreement to develop an integrated bus public transport hub in the Al Uqda Al Shamaliyah area of Al Buraimi Governorate. The project includes the development of a modern, integrated transport station spanning 56,000 square meters. The station will feature an eco-friendly design, offering intercity and intracity passenger transport services, along with advanced facilities such as a smart taxi station, a micro-mobility station, air-conditioned waiting halls, dedicated bus bays, transport operator offices, retail outlets, logistics facilities, and parking spaces for both cars and buses. The agreement was signed under the auspices of Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Transport. Dr. Hamad Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi, signed the agreement on behalf of the governorate, while Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat, signed on behalf of the company. He noted that there are approximately 12 daily bus trips on the Muscat-Al Buraimi route, in addition to the route between Muscat and Abu Dhabi in the UAE, which passes through Al Buraimi Governorate. For his part, Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat, explained that the agreement includes investment aspects, with a tender to be issued for investment in the station's development. Oman presents commemorative plaque to WTO in Geneva
Muscat – Oman has gifted a commemorative plaque to World Trade Organization (WTO) to mark the visit of H H Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said to its headquarters in Geneva on June 21, 2023. Created by Omani artist Salem bin Khamis al Salami, the plaque is a symbolic representation of Oman's civilisational heritage, natural diversity and its future development vision. It was created under the supervision of Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in collaboration with Omani Society for Arts, which is affiliated to Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. Presentation of the plaque reflects Oman's approach to cultural diplomacy and its growing engagement with international institutions. H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said, 'This initiative reflects Oman's commitment to promoting cultural exchange and building international partnerships through the arts.' He also praised H H Sayyid Bilarab's role in promoting art as a means of global communication. H E Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Culture in Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, described the gift as a 'cultural and civilisational statement' aligned with Oman Vision 2040. H E Idris bin Abdulrahman al Khanjari, Oman's Permanent Representative to United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, emphasised the diplomatic significance of the gesture.
