Children's Mercy Kansas City announces $152 million expansion plan
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Children's Mercy Kansas City announced a $152 million expansion plan for Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas.
The hospital hopes the expansion will enhance patient care and improve access to existing services and new clinical programs.

'As the only freestanding pediatric hospital in the state of Kansas, this expansion will allow for even more families to have access to world-class care closer to home,' said Alejandro Quiroga, CEO & President of Children's Mercy.
'By bringing all our outpatient services together, improving our hospital facilities, and creating a modern, connected campus, we're making sure we can meet the growing needs of patients and families in the region.'
The expansion of surgical services, which includes remodeling the Sterile Processing Department and adding new pre-op, post-op, and procedural spaces, is the first phase of the project, which has already begun.
The hospital said construction is set to be complete by summer 2026.

The expansion project also includes:
New Medical Office Building (MOB): The MOB is scheduled to open in the summer of 2027.
Hospital Renovations: The renovations are expected to be completed by the summer of 2029.
New Service Offerings: Introduction of new programs such as Inpatient Rehab, intensive outpatient programs, an expanded GI Motility program and a neuroscience center.
Parking and Exterior Updates: To improve accessibility and wayfinding, there will be new entrances, contemporary parking structures, and exterior upgrades.
'We listened to the needs of physicians and families in this community and the expansion of our Kansas hospital strengthens our capacity to serve the growing pediatric population,' said Amy Fallon, President of Regional Operations, at Children's Mercy.
'This is more than just adding rooms or advancing technology; it's about deepening our commitment and reaffirming our dedication to delivering top-quality, accessible health care to every child that needs it.'
Children's Mercy is inviting the community to help by donating to advance the renovation.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. – Police officers in Lee's Summit are expressing gratitude and joy. Lee's Summit Police Ofc. Jared Timbrook is now recovering at home, five days after he was shot four times while responding to a domestic disturbance call. One gunshot was stopped by the officer's protective vest. GRANDVIEW, Mo. – Doctors say a popular Kansas City metro artist is lucky to be alive. Jonnie Rae Herbert, the popular paint party artist based in the Kansas City metro, remains in the hospital, . Herbert's husband, Jake Herbert, said she suffered a wide array of injuries, including two broken legs, a collapsed lung and a few broken vertebrae. The family added that several drivers stopped after the crash to protect her from the flames until emergency workers arrived. 'Literally every limb is broken,' Jake Herbert said on Wednesday. 'The biggest thing is her pain. Watching her suffer is not – it's a very difficult thing to watch her experience. Our son is having trouble understanding what's going on.' Michael J. Fox will return to on-screen acting for the first time since his retirement in 2020 with a guest role on Season Three of the Apple TV+ show, Shrinking.
