Keon Sabb is 'ahead' of schedule after 2024 injury. What to expect from Alabama football safety

Yahoo12 hours ago
Three practices into fall camp, Alabama football safety Keon Sabb was "in a good mood, flying around." And after how his 2024 season ended, it's all he could really ask for.
Sabb, whose first season with the Crimson Tide ended with a leg injury in Alabama's loss to Tennessee, is back on the practice field working out ahead of the official start of his redshirt junior season.
"I'm feeling really good," Sabb said. "Jeff Allen and coach (David) Ballou did a great job getting me ready for the season. And I think I'm really close. I'm really getting there."
Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said Sabb is "ahead of really every marker that we had in the offseason for him."
"We weren't sure if he would be able to go to the level that he's going right now at the beginning of fall camp," Wommack said. "But he is, and he's here. I don't think I can put a number on it, but I mean he's out there playing with our guys. He's comfortable enough to be able to do that."
Sabb said his leg injury happened a week or two before the Tennessee game, but "nothing too big." In the loss to the Volunteers, he hobbled off the field helped by trainers and had his left leg wrapped on the sideline. He later returned in the second half and played 30 snaps overall.
"I just wanted to be there for my teammates," Sabb said.
DeBoer later confirmed Sabb had surgery to repair his ailment and said in November the safety would be "back and ready to roll for next year."
It's something Sabb wanted to do, especially since the safety didn't end his first season at Alabama with a national championship ring.
As Sabb flies around in a good mood on the practice field, that's the reason he came back, ultimately.
"I didn't accomplish what I wanted to as a team," Sabb said.
Alabama opens the 2025 season against Florida State Aug. 30.

📸 Fans caught off guard as top club unveil former Barça star

Hardly any transfer goes through these days without information about the upcoming move leaking to fans through transfer experts or journalists. However, one of these rare cases has recently been witnessed again. And it happened at FC Porto. The 30-time Portuguese champions introduced a truly high-profile new signing in Luuk de Jong before their friendly match. Previously unsuccessful at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Dutchman played at his best for FC Barcelona in the 2021/22 season. The whole thing came completely out of nowhere. While FC Porto fans were surely delighted with the reinforcement, this example once again shows just how much magic can be found in processes like these, when they aren't public from the very first second. Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga gets $45 million contract update with sticking point

Still, no Jonathan Kuminga contract. Man, this is getting brutal. The Golden State Warriors and their restricted free agent forward can't come to an agreement, and it's hard to see what might change to reach a compromise. NBA insider Marc Stein has said that a two-year, $45 million deal is on the table from the Warriors, but Kuminga isn't biting on the contract that would include a team option in the second year. Kuminga is being asked to waive the right to veto trades in the first year of that deal, Stein writes, something that prevents the player from losing their free agency Bird rights. The Warriors want that from Kuminga, but he doesn't want to waive that. Stein adds that Jaxson Hayes, Taurean Prince and Jeff Green are three players who have waived such a provision already this offseason. MORE: Mavs paying Anthony Davis more than the Lakers are paying Luka Doncic Kuminga has been said to be seeking closer to $30 million per year, but it doesn't seem forthcoming. As an RFA, he doesn't have a ton of negotiating power. He showed his importance to Golden State in the playoffs when Jimmy Butler and then Stephen Curry were injured. In their absences, Kuminga scored a bunch of points in short order to try and keep the Warriors alive. Golden State wants to keep him, given that they've made him a competitive offer, but it doesn't seem they want to go up to Kuminga's price point. He doesn't have a lot of negotiating power given that no other team has made an offer sheet for him as a restricted free agent, basically leaving the power in Golden State's corner. This could drag on for a while, unless the Warriors or Kuminga are willing to meet closer to the middle on some aspect of this negotiation. Deion Sanders made 'Porta Potty' jokes after revealing pee struggles

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders recently made several urine-related jokes, and Sanders might have just put a Porta Potty-sized target (pun fully intended) on Colorado's sideline this fall. During a press conference with his medical team on Monday, the former NFL sensation revealed that he had his bladder removed following a cancerous tumor diagnosis. The medical professionals who treated Sanders say he is now cancer-free. While great news, that's still pretty devastating given everything the Colorado coach has been through with his health the last several years, including having toes amputated. MORE COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Mizzou's Eli Drinkwitz is college football's Tobias Fünke What's more, without a bladder, people might wonder how Sanders will, uh, do his business. Not to worry. He answered that question during his presser as only he can ― with pee jokes. Yep, good ole' Deion Sanders fired up the urine zingers, and they did not miss. "Now, I depend on Depends," he quipped. But, he wasn't done as he chimed in with more."It is real. So if you see a Porta Potty on the sidelines, it's real." The jokes were pretty good, we must admit, but there was a reason he was trying to make light of a very clearly serious situation. "I know it's a lot of people out there going through what I'm going through and dealing with what I'm dealing with," Sanders said. "Let's stop being ashamed of it, and let's deal with it. And let's deal with it head-on." Wishing the best for Deion Sanders as he continues his healing journey.
