Oman Sail hosts winter training camp for 21 sailors
The most impressive ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 sailors will also have the chance to join the Asyad Sailing Team for this year's sailing events, which include the Winter Cup, GCC Beach Games, Oman Sailing Championship and Musannah Race Week.
Sultan al Zadjali said: 'The winter training camp is an opportunity early in the year to gather our most promising sailors in all classes together for two weeks of focused sailing tuition in an encouraging environment at our world-class venue at the Musannah Sailing School. 'We head into a busy year with optimism, and the chance for our sailors to be part of the Asyad Sailing Team for the season is an excellent opportunity to develop at a high level. We look forward to seeing our talented young sailors out on the water in Musannah and guiding them towards reaching their undoubted potential,' he added. Following the conclusion of the training camp, Oman Sail's Optimist squad will travel to Thailand to compete in the Admiral's Cup before heading to Doha for the 2025 Qatar International Optimist Regatta in February. Later in the year, Oman Sail will host the 2025 IODA Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship in Musannah from October 25 to November 1.

MUSCAT: A team of four Optimist sailors from Oman Sail will represent the nation at this year's International Optimist Team Race in Cologny, Switzerland, from August 14 to 17. Led by Hashim al Rashdi, Oman Sail's Head Coach — Performance and coached by Sultan al Zadjali, the team will join 12 teams from around the world on Lake Geneva for an unforgettable sailing experience. The team comprises Khamis bin Nasser al Mashikhi, Mohammed bin Ziyad al Qasmi, Tarteel bint Zaid al Hasaniyah and Hadeel bint Yousuf al Mushaifriyah. Racing will be in teams of four, beginning with a round-robin phase, to give all teams the opportunity to compete against each other. From there, the quarterfinals and semifinals will see competition intensify, before the coveted finals. The team will arrive in Switzerland after competing in the African Optimist Championship from August 2 to 9 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which featured 75 sailors from 14 nations. Khamis al Mashikhi finished 18th overall, followed by Tarteel al Hasani in 36th, Hadeel al Mushaifri in 45th, Mohammed al Qasmi in 47th and Khalid al Sarhi in 52nd. Following the conclusion of the event, the team will head to the Wilayat of Sur, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, for the Oman Sailing Championship from August 18 to 22, before beginning their preparations for 14th edition of Al Musannah Race Week from October 15—22 and the IODA Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship, also held in the Wilayat of Al Musannah, Al Batinah South Governorate, from October 25 — November 1.

Registration open for 14th edition of Musannah Race Week
MUSCAT: Registration is now open for the 14th edition of Musannah Race Week, presented by Asyad. To be held from October 15-21, 2025, at Barcelo Musannah Resort, the event will bring together over 100 sailors from around the world for a week of coaching, camaraderie and competition in Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, Hansa 303 and the inclusive RS Venture Connect class. The Musannah Sailing School, operated by Oman Sail, has been designated a Category A High Performance Centre by the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF), and is also the base for Oman's national sailing teams, giving the young sailors the chance to experience international standard facilities as they take the next step on their journey in sailing. Conditions in Musannah are also expected to be ideal for sailing once again this year to give some of the region's top sailing talent the perfect platform to showcase their skills. During the event, Oman Sail coaches will also hold daily community 'Try Sailing' sessions to introduce people from the local community to the sport and experience the feeling of being on the water with a qualified instructor. The initiative aims to inspire the next generation of Omani sailors and show how accessible sailing can be at Oman Sail's Musannah Sailing School, based at Barcelo Musannah Resort. Abdulaziz al Shiedi, Acting Sailing Director at Oman Sail, said, 'The standard of sailing [within the region] is improving year on year, so we are excited to welcome a high calibre of athletes, along with their coaches and families, to Al Musannah in October for a week of racing, learning and mutual understanding. This year marks the 14th edition of the event, which is an undeniable success story for sailing in Oman and Oman Sail, and we are looking forward to welcoming the next generation of sailing stars to our shores for another wonderful week on the water.' Competition at Musannah Race Week will begin after three practice days, where 12 races in each class - no more than three per day – will decide the winners. Prizes will be awarded for the overall top three in each class, as well as the Junior top three for sailors under the age of 12, and the girls top three, as well as the overall Team Racing competition. Oman Sail and the Barcelo Musannah Resort will also host a BBQ night for all sailors, staff and families to offer a unique opportunity to experience authentic Omani hospitality and get to know each other in the idyllic surroundings of the resort. The 2024 edition of Musannah Race Week achieved Gold Clean Regatta Certification from Clean Regattas, the world's leading sustainability certification, in recognition of Oman Sail's commitment to preserving the environment during the event. Initiatives including a beach clean-up, waste reduction measures on-site, a recycling programme and the elimination of single-use plastics underlined the potential for sailing to be a clean sport. Similar initiatives will be in place this year, including a beach clean-up during the event days.
