Oleksandr Usyk finally responds after being ordered to fight Joseph Parker
Oleksandr Usyk has requested an extension on negotiations to fight Joseph Parker due to injury.
Last month, it was revealed that the Ukrainian was ordered to defend his WBO heavyweight title against the Kiwi heavyweight star - or risks losing the coveted strap. It came soon after Usyk became an undisputed heavyweight champion for a second time after knocking out Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.
Just weeks on from the WBO's order, boxing promoter Frank Warren has revealed that the Ukrainian star has asked for an "extension period" because he is injured. Alternatively, Parker could go on to face the winner of Moses Itauma's fight with Dillian Whyte - should Usyk decide to vacate the WBO title.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Warren said: "The WBO have put out about a month ago that Joe Parker - who is their interim champion - has to challenge against (Oleksandr) Usyk and Usyk has to defend against him. He has put a letter in yesterday, I found out today, stating that he has asked for an extension period because he is injured before being ordered to do anything.
"But whatever happens, the fact is that Joe Parker will either as champion, if Usyk vacates the title, or he will face Usyk for the title. So, it's exciting times if Moses (Itauma) were to win or even if Dillian (Whyte) wins... whoever wins that fight, they are in the one spot. And if the fight does not happen with Usyk and Joe, then Joe will have to fight the official number one contender."
Last month, the governing body sent an official letter to both Usyk and Parker - which read: "Gentlemen: Please be advised that the WBO World Championship Committee is hereby ordering the commencement of negotiations between the subject matter fighters to discharge the mandatory title defence obligation.
"By virtue of this order, the parties have thirty (30) days upon issuance of this letter to reach terms. Failure to do so will result in this committee ordering purse bid proceedings in accordance with WBO regulations of World Championship Contests. The minimum bid in the Heavyweight division is one-million dollars ($1,000,000.00). Any of the parties herein may request purse bid proceedings at any time during negotiation stages.
"Lastly, the WBO reserves its right to issue any and all further rulings deemed necessary, helpful and convenient to accomplish the purposes, policies, and intent of the WBO rules, including but not limited to serving those interests that best serve boxing, and the WBO Heavyweight Division. Do not hesitate to contact the WBO headquarters if you have any questions or concerns."
Earlier this year, Usyk had revealed he has two more fights in him before officially calling it a day. After knocking out Dubois, the Ukrainian is set for one more outing - and it is fair to say he is not short of options. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the two-division undisputed champion has a three-man hit-list ahead of his final fight.
According to 112 Ukraine, Tyson Fury is still in consideration for a trilogy fight. Another name on the the 38-year-old's list is heavyweight sensation, Joseph Parker. The final name on the stacked list is Paul. Both Usyk and Paul faced off in the ring after the former's win over Dubois last month - hinting at a potential showdown between the pair.
When is Oleksandr Usyk's next fight?
It appears Usyk will take a well-deserved break for the remainder of the year to relax and enjoy precious moments with his family before considering his next move in the squared circle. Following his victory over Dubois, the Ukrainian champion reflected on his age, declaring: "38 is a young guy, remember! 38 is only the start!
"I want to say thank you to Jesus Christ. I want to say thank you to my team and Wembley, thank you so much! It's for the people. Nothing is next. It's enough, next, I don't know. I want to rest. My family, my wife, my children, I want to rest now. Two or three months, I want to just rest." He continued: "Maybe it's Tyson Fury," Usyk added. "Maybe we have three choices, Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua. Maybe Joseph Parker. Listen, I cannot now say because I want to go back home."

Ryan Reynolds turns up on Sky Sports live, mocks Wrexham pundit and reveals gift
Ryan Reynolds turns up on Sky Sports live, mocks Wrexham pundit and reveals gift Ryan Reynolds was in Wrexham for the club's first home game in the Championship Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds spoke to Sky ahead of their second Championship match. (Image: Sky Sports) Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were interviewed on live TV ahead of Wrexham's second Championship match against West Bromwich Albion. Reynolds took the opportunity to poke fun at a studio pundit he knew well and revealed a 'gift' he has been given. Wrexham were home at the Racecourse Stadium on Saturday lunchtime in their first Championship home match of the 2025/2026 season. After three successive promotions, which were recently praised by Wales legend Gareth Bale, the next big step for the north Walian club is to gain promotion to the Premier League. Coming off the back of a penalty shoot-out victory over Hull City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, Wrexham welcomed Midlands opposition West Brom to Wales and their owners were on hand to provide their thoughts. Former Wrexham defender Ben Tozer, who was with the club between 2021 and 2024, was part of the Sky Sports punditry team and was tasked with asking a question to his former work colleagues. "Hi Ryan, you alright? Is that Rob with you?," asked Tozer. "Is that Tozer?!," asked Reynolds. "You look shorter on TV," joked McElhenney. "Yeah, you do, you look tiny," added Reynolds. Article continues below "I've got Rob Mac here, I don't need anyone but Rob Mac for the rest of my life. I'll say that right now, Tozer. And you know it." "Tozer asked: Who have you brought with you that's famous? Because that's what you tend to do." "My kids are here, that's about it," said McElhenney. "That's about it," added Reynolds. "Shall we see if we can get Will Ferrell? Hugh (Jackman) is a fan of Norwich (disgusted face)." Content cannot be displayed without consent Reynolds went on to iterate that "we don't make football decisions" when asked about the management style of the owners and Phil Parkinson. "The great gift of that is to be able to have relationships with the players at Wrexham whereas most people in our position can't," answered Reynolds. "We have a relationship with every single one of our players. Not Tozer, of course, but everyone since him, for sure." McElhenney added: "It's interesting to get accolades when you hear people say: 'You guys have done a pretty good job for the club', and the truth is - we don't really have anything to do with what happens out on the pitch. "We've just got our very specific job, which is to be clowns and tell the story as best we can, but to be as respectful as we possibly can to what Phil does on the pitch. Article continues below "We just get to sit back, be fans and document the process." Next week, Wrexham face Sheffield Wednesday for another home fixture.

Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte: Fight time, TV channel, undercard and odds
Moses Itauma looks to take the next step in his promising journey as he faces off against fellow British heavyweight Dillian Whyte on Saturday. Itauma has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in British boxing having disposed of each of his last eight opponents within two rounds. The 20-year-old, who has a perfect 12-0 record, now finds himself ranked No1 by WBO after his knockout win over Mike Balogun in May. And despite his age, Itauma will hope that another convincing performance can see his name truly thrown into the world title mix next year. Standing in his way, however, is veteran heavyweight Whyte who has been defeated just three times in his 34 professional fights. 'The Body Snatcher' has won his last three fights since his return from a drugs ban which was overturned after it was found to be caused by a contaminated supplement. The 37-year-old cut an impressive figure on Friday, tipping the scales at his lightest weight in over a decade, and will hope to roll back the years and produce an upset to keep himself in contention for more big fights towards the back end of his career. Ahead of fight night here is everything you need to know, including the ringwalk time, undercard details and how to watch on TV and live stream. Itauma vs Whyte will take place this evening – Saturday August 16 – at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The first fight on the undercard is scheduled for 5.45pm BST, with the ringwalks set to take place at roughly 10.20pm BST. The entire fight card will be shown live exclusively on DAZN pay-per-view. In the UK, it is priced at £19.99. Earlier in the night, there's plenty of action to look forward too as well as Nick Ball defends his WBA featherweight title against Sam Goodman. More Trending And there's more British heavyweight interest as David Adeleye takes a big step up to face Filip Hrgovic who last beat Joe Joyce on points back in April this year. Elsewhere, Ray Ford takes on Abraham Nova, while Hayato Tsutsumi faces off against Qais Ashfaq.
