UGANDA SEEKS MALAYSIAN INVESTMENTS IN OIL, GAS AND MINERAL SECTORS

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) -- Uganda is seeking Malaysian investments in its energy and mineral sectors, with key opportunities in oil refining, critical minerals, and clean energy infrastructure, said its Energy and Mineral Development Minister Ruth Nankabirwa.
Nankabirwa said her country has vast resource potential and that her government is prepared to support foreign investors through a clear legal framework.
"You will not be left to deal with landowners alone, as the state steps in — the minerals belong to the government, even if the land is privately owned," she said at the Uganda: The Pearl of Africa Business Forum and Expo 2025 here today.
She said commercial oil was discovered in 2006, and two development areas are progressing well.
"One area at Lake Albert is expected to generate 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The second, located towards Northern Uganda, Tilenga, is expected to produce 190,000 barrels per day," she said.
She also pointed out the country's rare earth elements, gold, iron ore and copper reserves, adding that Ugandan law prohibits the export of raw minerals without local value addition.
'We don't allow minerals to be exported without value added. We want to industrialise at home. That's why we are inviting investors who are ready to process and partner with us locally,' she said.
Nankabirwa noted that Malaysia's experience in palm oil, downstream industries, and solar energy has positioned it as a strategic partner.

BYD Malaysia managing director Eagle Zhao said the investment in its own fleet of vessels puts BYD in a more seure position to manage global demand and critical transport resources through superior delivery stability and scale. The vessel's RORO method, where vehicles are driven directly on and off the vessel, offers substantial time and cost advantages compared with traditional container shipping, according to the statement.

Pandasafe Has Potential To Cultivate Safe Riding Culture Among Delivery Riders
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The implementation of the Pandasafe programme, a new initiative by food delivery company Foodpanda, has the potential to cultivate a culture of safe riding among delivery or p-hailing riders, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. Not only did the minister laud the initiative, but he also said that the programme can encourage comprehensive risk management and raise awareness of road safety within the food delivery system. 'Pandasafe uses telematics technology to assess how riders ride and collaborates with insurance companies and other stakeholders to instil a safety culture. 'This is the kind of initiative that should be emulated. Safety must be integrated into the corporate systems of all platform-based companies,' he told reporters after launching the initiative here today. Loke also warned against business practices that may pressure p-hailing riders to compromise safety for the sake of meeting delivery quotas or tight deadlines. 'We don't want systems that punish riders for not meeting strict delivery times, which in turn could lead to dangerous riding habits like speeding, illegal overtaking, or taking unnecessary risks to chase more trips. This should not be happening,' he stressed. He said statistics show that two-thirds of fatal road accidents in Malaysia involve motorcyclists, with delivery riders being among the most frequent users of public roads. 'That's why we're strongly pushing for safety to become part of the working culture across the delivery sector,' he said. Earlier in his speech, Loke noted that while the government can create policy frameworks, lasting change can only happen if the private sector also takes responsibility.
