SNGPL, LCCI celebrate ‘Youm-e-Tashakur'
LAHORE: Sui Northern celebrated 'Youm-e-Tashakur' at its Head Office and all the Regional Offices in order to commemorate the successful completion of operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos and pay homage to the national leadership and Pakistan Armed Forces.
MD SNGPL Amer Tufail, Senior Management and employees participated in these events and paid tribute to the bravery and courage of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy.
MD SNGPL said that Sui Northern's Management and employees are standing along the armed forces for the defence and progress of our country.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Friday observed Youm-e-Tashakkur with great zeal and patriotic spirit and paid glowing tributes to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their historic and decisive victory against India.
The event, held at the LCCI premises, was attended by President Mian Abuzar Shad, Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman, Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry, members of the Executive Committee, trade and industry representatives and a large number of businessmen and industrialists.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthem, followed by special prayers for the peace and prosperity of the country and the eternal reward of the martyrs who laid down their lives in defense of Pakistan. The participants offered Fateha for the armed forces personnel who embraced martyrdom while safeguarding the borders of the homeland.
Addressing the gathering, LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad said that the business community stands shoulder to shoulder with the valiant armed forces of Pakistan.
He said that Youm-e-Tashakkur is not just a day of gratitude it is a reflection of the nation's collective pride and unwavering support for our armed forces who have always defended Pakistan's sovereignty with unmatched courage.
He said that the recent historic success over the enemy is a testament to the unmatched professionalism, preparedness and patriotism of the Pakistan Army.
The LCCI President added that our brave soldiers have thwarted enemy aggression and sent a clear message across the globe that Pakistan is capable, alert and unbreakable,' the LCCI President remarked.
Mian Abuzar Shad said that the entire business community is deeply grateful to the defenders of the nation who have not only protected our geographical boundaries but have also ensured internal peace and stability factors crucial for economic progress.
LCCI Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman said that the nation is indebted to the armed forces for their sacrifices. He said that in times of external threats and internal challenges, the armed forces have always risen to the occasion and this recent victory is yet another chapter in their glorious history.
LCCI Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry stated that the Pakistan Army's bravery and resilience have once again proved that the country's defense is in safe and strong hands. He said the morale of the nation has been uplifted and national unity has been further strengthened by this victory.
The LCCI office-bearers said that Pakistan's economic development is closely linked to national security and a strong army guarantees both peace and prosperity.

Tump assistant commissioner abducted from near Tigranabad, Balochistan
Armed men abducted Tump Assistant Commissioner Hanif Noorzai on Wednesday morning near Tigranabad as he was traveling with his family to Quetta, according to local sources. Eyewitnesses report that between six to eight armed individuals stopped his official vehicle, took him away at gunpoint, and fled with the car. His wife, driver, and official gunman were left at the site and remain unharmed. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the move stems from 'the involvement of some organizations and groups in terrorist activities in Balochistan, which are detrimental to Islamic faith, the sovereignty of Pakistan, and its customary traditions'. The notification further stated that the new designation is intended to reflect 'the true nature and ideology' of these groups and their 'nefarious designs' sponsored by India. 'All government entities are directed to start the above practice immediately,' the notification said, underscoring a concerted effort to reframe the narrative around insurgent violence in the province. Security forces eliminate 14 militants in North Waziristan operation: ISPR
Listen to article At least 14 militants allegedly affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij, a group identified as an Indian proxy, were killed in intellegence-based operations in North Waziristan between June 2 and 3, it emerged on Wednesday. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted operations in Dhatta Khel area of North Waziristan. "After a fierce exchange of fire, 14 militants affiliated with the Indian-sponsored group were neutralized." Sanitization operations are ongoing in the area to ensure the complete elimination of any remaining threats, said the military's media wing. "Pakistan's armed forces remain resolute in their mission to eradicate Indian-sponsored terrorism and restore lasting peace across the country," the statement added. Section 30 of 1940 Act: SC explains court's jurisdictional extent
ISLAMABAD: The arbitration is an autonomous and final forum, and judicial interference is permissible only in narrow and clearly defined circumstances envisaged by Section 30 of the 1940 Act; i.e., jurisdictional error, proven misconduct, or a patent legal mistake visible on the face of the record. A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and comprising Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, rendered this verdict on Pakistan Railways' petition against Lahore High Court (LHC) judgment dated 04.03.2024. The disputes between the petitioner (Pakistan Railways) and the respondent (CRRC Ziyang Co Limited) arose from a contract executed on 01.11.2017 were referred to arbitration by a two-member arbitral tribunal, which rendered the award on 02.07.2021 and filed it before the civil court. The petitioner on 01.09.2021 filed objections to the said award praying for the award to be set aside and the disputes to be remitted back to the arbitrators. The civil court on 23.11.2022 under amended provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, framed the issues requiring the parties to submit the list of witnesses for the production of evidence within a period of seven days. The respondent under Section 30 of the Arbitration Act, 1940, assailed the civil court's order dated 23-11-2022 before the LHC, which on 04-03-2024 set aside the said order and remanded the case to the civil court for a decision afresh on the basis of available record. The petitioner approached the apex court against the LHC verdict. The nine-page judgment authored by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, upholding the LHC order, dismissed the petition. It said objections to arbitration awards, ought to avoid framing issues and record evidence unless absolutely necessary. 'The framing of issues and recording of evidence; however, undermines the core objectives of the 1940 Act, which are efficiency, finality, and minimal judicial intervention.' The judgment noted that arbitration offers several time-related advantages compared to traditional court litigation. Arbitration typically takes less time because the process is more streamlined, with fewer procedural steps and less formality than court proceedings. Justice Hassan wrote that the Courts are expected to pronounce judgment and decree in terms of the award, intervening only on narrow grounds such as misconduct or invalidity of the award, without re-opening factual issues through evidence recording. It is now well settled that arbitrators are entitled to regulate their own procedure and are not governed by the strict procedure prescribed by the CPC and the rules regarding evidence contained in the Qanun-e-Shahadat Order, 1984. Arbitrators decide disputes based on evidence presented during arbitration proceedings. They are under no obligation to frame issues as provided in the CPC. The judgment said that courts recording fresh evidence disregard the procedural safeguards in arbitration, such as the Arbitrator's exclusive jurisdiction to assess evidence and apply law. This may lead to inconsistent outcomes and procedural unfairness. If the court frames issues and records evidence after objections to an award are filed, parties may use this as an opportunity to re-litigate the entire dispute, leading to multiple proceedings on the same issues besides undermining both the legislative intent and the integrity of the arbitral process. The framing of issues, recording of evidence and hearing arguments post the filing of the award in the court is bound to increase litigation costs for parties and add to the already heavy workload of courts. This again defeats the purpose of arbitration as an economical and efficient alternative dispute resolution mechanism. The recording of evidence and conducting a trial effectively converts the court into an appellate or fact-finding forum, which would be contrary to the statutory scheme envisaged by the 1940 Act.
