The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed another vessel to monitor the presence of China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels off the coast of Zambales, its spokesperson said Monday.
'Right now, BRP Bagacay is patrolling the waters within the vicinity of Bajo de Masinloc and to monitor whether there will be another CCG vessel that will attempt to go near the coastline of Zambales this afternoon,' PCG spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela said in a Zoom briefing.
Over the weekend, Tarriela said a CCG vessel was located five to 18 nautical miles from Palauig Point off the coast of Zambales, which is within the country's exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
He said the vessel has gone further away from Zambales.
'I would like to believe na ito ngayon ay bumalik na sa vicinity ng Bajo de Masinloc. I would say it has the distance of somewhere between 115 to 120 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales,' Tarriela said.
(I would like to believe that it has now returned to the vicinity of Bajo de Masinloc. I would say it is at a distance of somewhere between 115 to 120 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales.)
The PCG previously directed the Multi Role Response Vessel (MRRV-4409) BRP Cabra to challenge the presence of the CCG vessel. However, the BRP Cabra left after receiving a distress call from a Filipino fishing boat.
Tarriela said that the CCG never responded to the BRP Cabra's challenge.
He said that the CCG would often excuse its actions as the conduct of a legitimate maritime law enforcement.
'Kaya we are challenging them. We are reminding them that they are inside our own EEZ and that they do not have legitimate authority to conduct such illegal patrol,' Tarriela said.
'Kung hindi sila sumagot, I don't think we can hold them accountable for not responding. But definitely, we are challenging their illegal presence dito sa ating EEZ and that they never informed us of their intention why they are there and what is the purpose of their presence,' he added.
In 2013, the Philippines challenged China over its claims on the West Philippine Sea, and in 2016 Manila scored a victory in a landmark ruling by an international tribunal that invalidated Beijing's claims.
China has refused to acknowledge the Permanent Court of Arbitration's 2016 ruling that invalidated its nine-dash line.
The Philippines has already filed over 150 diplomatic protests against China regarding the territorial dispute under the administration of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

SC advocates for protection of children vs. sexual abuse, exploitation
The Supreme Court (SC) announced Wednesday its collaboration with SaferKidsPH, an Australian government initiative, to protect Filipino children against online sexual abuse and exploitation (OSAEC). At the SaferKidsPH Culminating Event on Tuesday, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo described SaferKidsPH as a 'beacon of hope' in the campaign against OSAEC. He said the SC will continue to 'hold the door open to a better tomorrow for every FIlipino child. Gesmundo also highlighted the High Court's efforts to strengthen judicial framework for child protection, including the establishment of an Anti-OSAEC TriCity Justice Zone in Cagayan de Oro City, Ozamis City, and Iligan City. 'As we celebrate these achievements, we recognize that our work is far from complete,' Gesmundo was quoted as saying in a statement. 'The Supreme Court remains steadfast in its commitment to this cause, collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure that every child is protected from harm, both in the digital realm and beyond,' he added. DTI certifies 4 companies as 1st export-oriented firms under CREATE MORE
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Tuesday announced it has certified the first four companies as Export-Oriented Enterprises (EOEs) under the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises to Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy (CREATE MORE) law. The first four companies awarded with EOE certifications are as follows: Dole Philippines Inc. (Est. 1963): A global leader in tropical fruit exports, Dole cultivates vast plantations across Mindanao and Luzon, supplying fresh and processed pineapples and juices to markets in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The company is also expanding into sustainable agriculture and biofuel production. Philsaga Mining Corporation (PMC) (Est. 2001): PMC operates the Coo Gold Mine in Agusan del Sur, extracting over 900,000 metric tons of ore annually. Krystle Exports Philippines, Inc. (Est. 1987): Krystle Exports is a distributor of premium Filipino food and non-food products. It also partners with local manufacturers to deliver high-quality goods to the US, Hong Kong, and the Middle East. Bosch Service Solutions Inc. (Est. 2010): Based in Taguig City, Bosch provides Business Process Outsourcing and customer experience services to global clients, including the Bosch Group. The DTI said its Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) facilitated the ceremonial awarding of EOE certificates to the first four companies. The EOE certification, it said, signifies the implementation rollout of the CREATE MORE Act's VAT-related incentives for exporters. The Trade Department said the certification grants eligible enterprises access to critical tax benefits that reduce operational costs and fuel reinvestment in innovation and expansion. 'This landmark initiative marks more than a policy breakthrough—it signals our readiness to compete, scale, and lead in the global market. By strengthening the ability of our exporters to expand their reach, we are also generating jobs, and driving inclusive economic growth,' said Trade Secretary Cristina Roque. 'This commitment advances President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. vision for a 'Bagong Pilipinas,' as we build a more agile and opportunity-rich environment for Filipino exporters through the strategic incentives of the CREATE MORE Act,' added Roque. The Republic Act No. 12066 or CREATE MORE Act was signed into law on November 8, 2024. Under the law, qualified companies may be certified as EOEs if at least 70% of their annual sales come from export transactions. Once certified, EOEs gain access to VAT zero-rating on local purchases of goods and services, as well as VAT-exempt importation of goods directly used in export activities. These targeted incentives significantly lower the cost of doing business, allowing exporters to scale operations, enhance product quality, and compete more effectively in international markets, according to the DTI. The Trade Department called on eligible exporters to apply for EOE certification and 'fully leverage the performance-based benefits under the CREATE MORE Act.' —Ted Cordero/RF, GMA Integrated News

Senator Robinhood Padilla has filed a proposed resolution seeking to declare late musician Freddie Aguilar as a national artist. In filing proposed Senate Resolution (SR) No. 1364, Padilla cited Aguilar's significant contributions to the Philippine music and culture and said he should be honored in accordance with Sec. 15, Art. XIV of the Constitution, as well as Presidential Proclamation 1001. "Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar, also known as Freddie Aguilar, who was born on Feb. 5, 1953, rose to fame in the late 1970s for his powerful and heartfelt compositions using folk rhythms and kundiman music," Padilla said in his resolution. "Given his achievements and contributions, Freddie Aguilar must be considered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) for recommendation to the President as one of the country's national artists," he added. Freddie Aguilar succumbed to multiple organ failure. He was 72. The Filipino singer and songwriter was survived by Jovie, and his four children from his previous marriage: Maegan, Jonan, Isabella and Jeriko. Regarded as one of the pillars and icons of OPM (Original Pilipino Music), Aguilar is best known for his hit song 'Anak' which became an international hit and was translated into 51 languages.
