The Edge's skydeck will be throwing huge parties this summer
Just when you thought summer nightlife in New York had peaked, Tao Group Hospitality is taking it way higher. Literally.
The legendary nightlife brand behind Marquee is launching Marquee Skydeck, a pop-up party series perched 1,100 feet above Manhattan at Edge, the city's highest indoor/outdoor observation deck. Starting on Saturday, May 31 and running every Friday and Saturday through September, the 21-plus series will feature headlining DJs, sky-high energy and panoramic views more jaw-dropping than current NYC rent prices.
If you can't wait for the official launch, an early preview DJ set by Carlita will drop on Friday, May 16. After that, the series kicks off in full force with techno heavyweight Maceo Plex on opening night. And don't worry—this isn't just another rooftop bash with a Bluetooth speaker. Marquee Skydeck is bringing the full sensory experience that the Marquee brand is known for, hosting world-class sound, lights and beats over Hudson Yards.
It's not just a flashy party stunt, though; it's also part of a broader Tao Group takeover of Edge's hospitality game. The group already runs the show at Peak, Quin Bar and other concessions at the venue. With Marquee's flagship Chelsea club temporarily closed for a massive renovation until September, the Skydeck series is stepping in to fill the glittery void.
'There's nowhere else in the world where you can party at this altitude, with this view, and with the Marquee energy our guests love,' said Noah Tepperberg, Tao Group's co-CEO, in a release.
The Edge, already famous for its glass floors and 360-degree views, has hosted music videos and album drops—but this is its first foray into full-scale nightlife. And according to Hudson Yards' Andrew Lustgarten, 'You haven't seen it all until you've seen how Edge does nightlife.'

New rage room comes to Newport and we tried it out
'The Combat Zone' located in the Kingsway Centre offers a range of fun activities including airsoft, axe throwing, Nerf battles, and a rage room, and being an Argus staff member I headed straight to that rage room! Slots for the rage room were a total of 15 minutes each. We were then decked head to toe in red boiler suites and given leather gloves and protective facemasks. What happened next was absolute chaos. Weapons of destruction at Newport's new rage room (The Combat Zone) (Image: NQ) We were encouraged in a space of 15 minutes to break as many items as possible as fast as we could. Objects available to break ranged from glass bottles and tiles to household items like a flat screen TV, wooden cabinet, and even a washing machine (the flatscreen TV was our personal favourite). Staff at the rage room egged us on 'have you tried smashing it like that?' and 'remember that TV isn't your friend', which made us even more determined to embrace the chaos. A range of 'weapons' were available including metal and wooden baseball bats and hammers. Our Argus volunteer hitting a TV at Newport's new rage room (The Combat Zone) (Image: NQ) Alongside staff encouragement we were also given the option of connecting to the room's Bluetooth speakers. Rage room enthusiasts could pick whatever song they'd like to smash things to. We quite enjoyed cracking a few bottles against the wall to Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.' The experience itself cost £50 and in our eyes was worth it. A grand opening took place on Saturday May 26. Newport locals and husband and wife duo Claire and Gary Taylor 44 and 47 are the masterminds behind 'The Combat Zone.' The Combat Zone owners Claire Taylor and Gary Taylor (Image: NQ) Speaking of their first day Claire said: 'We'll we were very nervous this morning but really happy now. 'It's been absolutely amazing we've had so many people coming in that hadn't booked and brilliant interest excellent feedback so a really good morning.' Gary said: 'For me it's got to be the rage room people are going bonkers for it, and to be fair there seems to be a lot of angry people out there." Claire added: 'Come down see what we are about it's something completely new for Newport something like Newport's never seen before.'

The 13 best bridal shower gifts that any bride will love
Aside from thinking about the best way to celebrate a bride in your life, one important part of any bridal shower is getting the perfect gift. You probably don't want to go with something too cliché or an appliance they probably already have, but at the same time, you want something you know they'll actually use. Zeroing in on the best bridal shower gifts is all about spending some time thinking about what will truly make them happy and thankful. Things like unique momentos, buy-for-life cookware and experiential gifts are great places to start. Below, we've rounded up the best bridal shower gifts worth gifting to someone special this year. Want more from NBC Select? Sign up for our newsletter, The Selection, and shop smarter. Best bridal shower gifts in 2025All of the recommendations below are directly from NBC Select editors, favorite brands we've covered in the past and/or have at least a 4-star average rating from 500 reviews or more on Amazon. Surprise a bride in your life by gifting her a small and portable photo printer like the Canon Ivy. Around the size of a smartphone, the printer connects to their device using Bluetooth, allowing you to take tons of photos and print them immediately. The photos print on 2 x 3-inch pieces of adhesive peel-and-stick paper, making them easier to add to a scrapbook. Super fancy bed and bath gifts are great for anyone, but especially those who dedicate their time to self care. The Dorai stone bath mat is luxe but also incredibly functional — it's made of a quick-drying stoneware called diatomaceous earth and recycled paper that doesn't absorb as much water as a fabric mat. It's also much more hygienic than your usual bat mat; since it dries fast, you don't have to worry as much about musty smells and mold growth. Ideal for the bride who loves a good crime doc, puzzle or mystery game, Murdle is a book of 100 logic games, all of varying levels. Players can test their instincts by deciding who committed the crime, with what weapon and where. Plus, once they finish this one, they can move on to Murdle Volume 2. We're major fans of Lego sets at NBC Select, mainly because there's so many unique versions and a variety of skill levels available. Plus, Lego Botanicals sets act as beautiful decor in your home, making them a great gift for a bride. The Lucky Bamboo set has 325 pieces and is around 11 inches tall. The Artifact Uprising photo book is a safe, high-quality 7 x 7-inch photo album that the bride can use to house all of her photos. You can customize the book by choosing the type of foil you want for the title, the fabric color and how many pages you want — you can choose between 20 to 50 pages. If you're gifting a bride that loves to cook, a Le Creuset Dutch oven is a durable pot that can last a lifetime when maintained properly. It's available in more than 10 shades, including the popular color Flame and other more unique options. It's oven safe up to 500 degrees, and while it's dishwasher safe, too, the brand recommends washing by hand. I love everything about Calpak's bags — the look and texture is unique and incredibly durable, so I don't have to worry about my Luka breaking or ripping. It has multiple pockets on the inside, a space for a laptop, a key leash and padded straps. The bottom is also expandable and allows for so much more room for personal items. I gifted this to my aunt one year for Christmas and she loves the look of it so much, and the honeycomb design makes it reminiscent of old-school French bistros. I also love the typeface on the mug and the geometric look on the side. Also, it's 15 ounces so it's the perfect size for a substantial cup of coffee or tea. NBC Select reporter, Harry Rabinowitz recently reviewed the Skylight Picture Frame and highlighted how many styles the frame has to choose from and how easy it is to set up. The frame is a thoughtful gift for a bride who loves collecting photos and wants them all on display at once, as opposed to having to choose only one at a time. They can have multiple photos on rotation and if you give this as a gift, you can set it up remotely and share a gift code with the recipient. Cozy Earth has a wealth of high-quality bedding options, including sheet sets and pillows, but the brand's bath lineup is also worth gifting. This cozy bathrobe comes in multiple styles and sizes and is made of a blend of cotton and bamboo viscose (plant fibers). It includes an adjustable waist tie and has two pockets on the front to keep hands warm. NBC Select commerce editor Lindsay Schneider and I are fans of Quince, especially because of the quality and affordable pricing. I also love how many different department's the brand has — they have a ton of items for home, apparel, bath, perfume and so much more. If you have a giftee who wants home and lifestyle items that are made to last, a gift card is a simple but effective idea. Instant Pot is a go-to brand when choosing an electric pressure cooker, but the brand's air fryer is also just as useful. I gifted this to my brother last year and love how powerful it is and how quickly it cooks food, even frozen ones. It's available in both a 4- and 6 quart option, and has multiple modes, including dehydration, reheating and broiling. Gift a bride a fancy espresso machine to help her start building her at-home coffee bar. Perfect for someone who's a fan of lattes, cappuccinos and other espresso-based beverages, the Bambino brews freshly ground espresso and has a milk steamer. You can also choose between a single or double shot. Why trust NBC Select? Bethany Heitman is a contributing editor at NBC Select Cory Fernandez is a commerce editor at NBC Select who writes about many home and lifestyle topics, including cooking, cleaning, home appliances and more.

Michael Jackson's gravity-defying shoes and other wacky celebrity inventions
As Kim Kardashian invents a bra with nipple piercings costing £80 we take a look at other famous folk who turned out to be unlikely inventors and some of the creations they've come up with Kim Kardashian may have shot to fame as a reality TV star during The Kardashians, but these days she's a sharp businesswoman with an eye for what women want. The SKIMS founder has just launched a new version of the viral nipple bra with fake piercings, which will be available to buy from Thursday, May 22. It's the first nipple bra with piercings to go on sale - and the video on Instagram of a model named Carolina walking into a bar wearing a SKIMS bodysuit with the pierced nipple bra under has got everyone talking. And she's not the only one to turn her creative hand to other things, which leads us to some other very famous stars who turned out to be unlikely inventors... READ MORE: Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon's health fear on set as midwife stepped in Jamie Lee Curtis American actress and film producer Jamie Lee Curtis, 66, is best known for playing Laurie in the Halloween films franchise, but she is also a children's book author and has patented a diaper with a wipe-holding pocket. Called Dipe and Wipe, it's a disposable diaper with a moisture-proof pocket containing wipers, which she invented in 1988. Jamie came up with the idea after her own experiences of caring for children, but although it's a great concept, the invention itself is not commercially available and was not designed for mass production. Steve McQueen Steve McQueen, the actor known for his Hollywood roles including The Great Escape and The Sand Pebbles, designed bucket seats and even patented one in 1970. The bucket seat, which was used in the Ford Mustang for the movie Bullitt, was designed to keep the American actor and his doubles safe during filming, particularly the car chase scene. While he improved the look of the seat, it was not a groundbreaking invention, as bucket seats had existed previously. Hedy Lamarr Not only was Hedy Lamarr a Hollywood sex symbol in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, starring in films like Samson and Delilah (1949) and My Favorite Spy (1951) - she was also a pioneering inventor. Known for her beauty and intelligence, it was her invention of frequency-hopping technology that later formed the basis for modern WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. The Austrian-American actress studied engineering and top-secret weapons systems. In 1942, she and a partner won a patent for a frequency-switching radio system to control torpedoes, which now forms the basis of wifi and Bluetooth technology. Christie Brinkley Beyond her iconic modelling career, where she appeared on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers in 1979, 1980, and 1981, Christie is known for her other talents. She had a starring role in National Lampoon's Vacation and has appeared in music videos for her then-husband, Billy Joel. But she's definitely not just a pretty face. The supermodel received a patent for an educational toy she designed in 1991 that helps kids learn their ABCs. She also launched a number of business ventures, including a wine called Bellissima Prosecco. Prince In 1984, Prince became the first singer to simultaneously have a number-one film, album and single in the US, with the film Purple Rain, its soundtrack, and his first Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping single 'When Doves Cry'. Considered to be one of the best musicians of all time, in 1992, he also got the thumbs-up for a design patent for a portable keyboard instrument - a custom keytar called 'Purpleaxxe'. This allowed musicians to play while moving around the stage. Keytars existed before Prince's Purpleaxxe, and while his design was unique and used in live shows, it didn't become a dominant instrument across the music industry. Paula Abdul Singer, songwriter and dancer Paula Abdul shot to fame in the 1980s and 90s with hits like 'Straight Up' and 'Opposites Attract', later becoming known as a judge on the reality TV show American Idol. But did you know the American choreographer also designed a dynamic microphone stand, which was awarded a patent in 2009? The unique creation allows performers to stand on it and sway while singing without becoming tangled in the microphone cable, but was designed to help her own performances, rather than for mass consumption. Michael Jackson Did you know that Michael Jackson invented a type of gravity-defying shoe that allowed him to lean forward and look like he was defying gravity? The King of Pop devised a post that popped up from the stage and locked into his shoe, allowing him to perform his trademark move of leaning forward at an alarming angle. It's what he used to execute his signature dance move in 'Smooth Criminal' which reached number 8 on the official charts in 1988, returning to the Top 40 in 2009 after his death. Harry Connick Jr Actor Harry Connick Jr may be recognisable as Leo Markus in Will & Grace and starring roles in P.S. I Love You, but his talents don't end there. The gifted singer and pianist has also devised a machine capable of displaying music digitally for orchestras after becoming frustrated with his sheet music blowing away during performances. This invention, which he patented, allowed for real-time adjustments to scores and eliminated the need for constant paper revisions and has proven a significant advancement for orchestras. Julie Newmar Julie Newmar, most famous for her portrayal of Catwoman, also patented inventions in the 1970s. These included 'Nudemar' pantyhose with a shaping band designed to give a woman's rear 'cheeky derriere relief' and she also patented a 'nearly invisible' brassiere. She obviously had a head for business, as she also became involved in property sales in Los Angeles. Winston Churchill Winston Churchill rallied Britain and the Allied forces to victory against Nazi Germany in the years leading up to 1945, but in his spare time he invented the onesie! He designed a one-piece green velvet jumpsuit to wear in the Downing Street bunker during air raids, which he called his 'siren suit'. It's reported that he loved it because it was easy to slip on when the air raid siren sounded, so much that he ordered 12 of them.
