Hammouchi Receives Families of Fallen Police Officers, Honors Their Sacrifice
Rabat – The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN), Abdellatif Hammouchi, received on Sunday in El Jadida the widows and parents of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The meeting took place at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Center, which is currently hosting the sixth edition of the DGSN Open Days.
As part of this initiative, ten widows were granted housing units in cities of their choosing, reflecting their previously expressed preferences. Additionally, the parents of two fallen officers received a financial grant of MAD 30,000 each.
This social initiative is part of a broader support system overseen by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works of National Security Employees , which aims to provide comprehensive assistance to the families of officers who died in the line of duty.
The foundation works continuously to enhance and expand services that promote a dignified and inclusive social environment for its members.
The foundation also provides annual financial assistance of MAD 15,000 for each child of fallen officers, which continues throughout their university education. Moreover, children benefit from free summer camps with additional allowances, and a customary financial grant during Eid Al-Adha.
To further strengthen these social benefits, honorary membership cards have been issued to the parents of fallen officers, granting them the same rights and privileges as active members.
The foundation also ensures full coverage of healthcare costs for the families of those who lost their lives in service.

Morocco Announces Special Holiday for Eid Al-Adha on June 9
Doha – The Head of Government's office has announced that government departments and local authorities will observe an exceptional holiday on Monday, June 9, for Eid Al-Adha. The holiday extends the observance of the festival, which falls on Saturday, June 7, corresponding to the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446H. This decision was made in accordance with Article 3 of Decree No. 2.05.916 issued on July 20, 2005, as amended and supplemented, according to the government statement. The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs had previously announced on Tuesday, May 27, that the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah had completed thirty days. Consequently, the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah is Thursday, May 29, with Eid Al-Adha falling on Saturday, June 7. The ministry clarified that it had monitored the crescent of Dhu al-Hijjah for the year 1446H after sunset on Tuesday, the 29th of Dhu al-Qa'dah (May 27). Officials contacted all Islamic Affairs delegates across the kingdom and units of the Royal Armed Forces participating in the crescent observation, who unanimously confirmed that the crescent was not visible. This year's Eid Al-Adha comes under exceptional circumstances as Moroccans have been called to abstain from the traditional sacrifice. On February 26, King Mohammed VI urged citizens to refrain from performing the ritual sacrifice this year due to the alarming decline in the national livestock population. The royal appeal was motivated by economic rather than religious considerations. The national livestock, particularly sheep, has decreased by 38% since 2016, with the number of female breeding stock falling to 8.7 million heads in 2024, compared to 11 million in 2016. This decline threatens the sector's sustainability and has caused red meat prices to soar. The COVID-19 pandemic followed by several years of drought severely impacted livestock numbers. In normal years, approximately 5.5 to 6 million animals would be sacrificed during Eid Al-Adha. Continuing this practice this year would further deplete breeding stock and potentially drive meat prices to MAD 200 ($20) per kilogram. While there is no formal ban on sacrifices, authorities are implementing stricter enforcement of regulations regarding informal practices associated with the holiday. Police Arrest Seven in Agadir for Facilitating Baccalaureate Exam Cheating
Doha – Police in Agadir arrested seven individuals Thursday morning for allegedly facilitating cheating during Morocco's Baccalaureate exams. The suspects include two students, two private education teachers, and two university students. The operation, coordinated between the Provincial Judicial Police Service and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), began when authorities caught two Baccalaureate candidates using sophisticated wireless electronic equipment connected to communication networks inside an examination center. A simultaneous raid on an apartment in the same city led to the arrest of two private education teachers and two university students. These individuals allegedly provided exam answers to the arrested candidates through electronic equipment in exchange for money. Authorities seized mobile phones, a computer, cash, and receipts for financial transfers suspected to be proceeds from this criminal activity. The arrested suspects remain in police custody, while the two student candidates are subject to judicial investigation procedures under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office. In a similar case in Al Hoceima, the Provincial Judicial Police Service arrested a man in his twenties suspected of managing WhatsApp groups that receive and leak Baccalaureate exam answers in exchange for money through financial transfers. Reports indicate a growing commercial aspect to exam cheating, with accounts on social media platforms offering 'suitable prices' for 'facilitating the examination process and providing appropriate answers.' These arrests come as the standard session of Morocco's unified national Baccalaureate examination began Thursday across the country. According to the Ministry of National Education, 495,395 candidates are participating this year, including 385,330 school students and 110,065 independent candidates. Strict measures, yet loopholes remain Despite strict security measures, including electronic scanners to prevent mobile phones or electronic devices from entering examination centers, news reports indicate that exam questions were seen circulating on social media shortly after the exams began. A ministry official told reporters that 'procedures are strict and firm' but acknowledged that some photos of exam papers were taken after envelopes were opened, which the official distinguished from true 'leaks' that would occur before envelopes are opened. Law 02.13 on examination fraud stipulates that those convicted of leaking exam subjects or helping provide answers face prison terms of three months to two years and fines of MAD 1,000 to MAD 20,000 ($100 to $2,000), or one of these penalties. Morocco's Top Police Chief Attends 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues in Moscow
Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, is on a working visit to Moscow on May 27-29 to represent the Kingdom at the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues. The meeting, which holds particular significance in the field of security, is attended by heads and senior officials from security and intelligence services representing over 100 countries from the Global South, the East, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Numerous international and regional organizations are also attending, including the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Organized by the Russian Security Council, this meeting has been held regularly since 2010. It serves as a strategic forum for coordination and exchange of views among countries on developing collective mechanisms to address growing global threats and to examine international policies aimed at neutralizing emerging risks, thereby contributing to the consolidation of international peace and security. This event, chaired by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, was marked by the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and an opening address via videoconference by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who emphasized that the new global security architecture must be fair and equitable and that all countries should be provided with strong guarantees to ensure their own security without compromising the interests and security of others. As part of the event, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance stressed that neutralizing growing strategic threats and dangers requires the establishment of a joint and indivisible security infrastructure, with the assistance of national security and intelligence services in close cooperation and coordination with their counterparts in different regions of the world. Hammouchi also noted that fair and equitable cooperation between countries is the key to the success of any security structure aimed at confronting current strategic threats and challenges. "The duty of vigilance underlying our proactive efforts and shared responsibility requires the exchange of information on all identified or potential security threats, as well as their secure and immediate sharing in the interest of our collective security, based on a win-win principle," he said. On the sidelines of this international event, which featured a series of multilateral security-focused meetings, the Moroccan official held bilateral talks with the heads and members of several security and intelligence services from brotherly and friendly nations, including the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation. These meetings focused on numerous issues of common interest and on ways to bolster bilateral cooperation to address emerging risks and threats.
