An elderly driver has ploughed a car through an Asian grocery store in Melbourne's CBD, striking a pedestrian and pinning a shopper inside.
The 87-year-old man, from Ivanhoe in the city's north-east, was behind the wheel of a teal Mercedes-Benz sedan when it mounted the footpath on Elizabeth Street about 2.30pm Wednesday.
The car struck a pedestrian, a 19-year-old man from Parkville, before smashing through the glass facade of KT Mart and hitting another 56-year-old man inside.
The vehicle pinned the shopper, who was left with a bloodied leg, 7News reported.
Police said the building sustained major structural damage, while both people struck by the car were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
'The driver of the vehicle is expected to undergo a [licence] review,' a Victoria Police spokeswoman said. 'The investigation remains ongoing.'
The driver, who was the only person in the car, was uninjured.
A large police presence was reported in the CBD after the crash. The outer carriageway of Elizabeth Street was closed to traffic between Queensberry Street and Victoria Street.

Lanlan Yang fuels speculation on Chinese media and Sydney streets after crowds from the Chinese community gathered outside court to see her

Lanlan Yang also known as 'Celestial Dragon Girl' on Chinese Social Media has not only met with legal scrutiny, but with roaring fascination. On Friday Yang appeared via video at Sydney's Downing Centre where close to 100 members of the Chinese community gathered outside John Madison Tower, many eager for even a fleeting sight of her. She appeared wearing a branded black suit and a bucket hat. Yang was not in a position to enter a plea according to her lawyer Mr Yu and revealed she may be facing fresh charges signalled by police. Her wealth, lack of digital presence, and luxury lifestyle continue to stir fevered speculation with Friday's crowd only deepening suspicions. A Chinese Australian who was present in the crowds described Yang's alleged links to a high ranking Chinese official and told "She is from a big family, top leaders in China". "Many people believe she's from a political bureau members family," he continued. Yang became widely known after July 26 this year when her Rolls Royce SUV, worth more than $1 million AUD, crashed into a Mercedes. The Mercedes was driven by George Plassaras, the chauffeur of radio host Kyle Sandilands, who suffered severe injuries including a broken spine, hips, ribs and femurs, while Yang walked away unhurt and tested positive for alcohol. Her absence from platforms like Instagram or LinkedIn has only heightened curiosity, with Chinese users dubbing her 'Celestial Dragon Girl' in reference to an untouchable class of characters in the anime One Piece . Rumours portray her as everything from an heiress to a vast fortune to someone connected with high profile politicians or business dynasties, while others whisper about shadowy iron ore deals, though most claims remain unsubstantiated and on Chinese Little Red Book. As the legal case moves forward, public focus continues to drift from the courtroom to the enigma of Lanlan Yang, with the Chinese Australian community fuelling speculation that she is tied to a senior Chinese figure. Yang's bail conditions forbid her from driving and require her to remain inside her penthouse between 8pm and 6am, with her next appearance scheduled for September 26, 2025.

‘Put the f***ing knife down': Shock moment man attacks cops in Melbourne home

Harrowing footage has captured the moment a man attacked two police officers in a Melbourne home, slashing one with a box knife before fleeing the scene in a stolen car, which he later set alight. Newly released footage shows Diesel Jackson, 25, fighting a male and female police officer, neither of whom were equipped with tasers, at a home in Frankston on March 22, 2024. The officers had arrived at the property at 6.30pm that evening, responding to reports of a man with a stolen white Jeep Grand Cherokee. Footage, released by a judge to 7News on Friday, shows Mr Jackson waving a knife in front of the male police officer. 'Put it down! Put it down!' the officer shouted, while pointing a gun at the man. 'Put the f***ing knife down!' At one point, the female officer is heard pleading with the male officer to let Mr Jackson go, after being 'trapped' alone in the room with him. 'No, no, let him go, let him get out … I'm trapped!' she said. During the altercation, Mr Jackson was sprayed with capsicum spray but it had little effect. 'Let him go, not worth it,' the female officer said as Mr Jackson made his way downstairs. Outside, the pair stood and watched as Jackson drove away, only to return moments later. He accelerated toward them as they stood on the pavement. 'Watch out, he's going to ram us!' the female officer shouted. 'Get out of the way!' What followed was a high-speed police pursuit captured by aerial footage over southeast Melbourne, with Jackson allegedly reaching speeds of up to 170km/h. The stolen Jeep was seen mounting kerbs and median strips, continuing on even after hitting police-deployed stop sticks. The chase came to an end when Jackson lost control and spun out on Cranbourne Road. He then set the vehicle alight before fleeing on foot. He was caught shortly afterwards. Both officers were taken to hospital following the incident, which has since renewed pressure on the Victorian Government to accelerate its plan to equip all frontline police with tasers. Wayne Gatt, chief executive of the Police Association Victoria, said tasers would 'definitely have helped in the situation.' Jackson, 25, was later charged with 28 offences, including assaulting an emergency worker on duty, intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, and theft of a motor vehicle. He was convicted of eight offences and three summary offences and sentenced to six years in prison, with a non-parole period of four years. 'Our thoughts remain with the victims and their loved ones,' a Victorian Government spokesperson said in a statement provided to 'We thank all the men and women of Victoria Police who put their lives on the line every day to keep Victorians safe. 'We have delivered $214 million to give Victoria Police next-gen tasers and we continue to introduce a range of tough new laws that back the work of Victoria Police.'
