Doechii named Billboard's 2025 Woman of the Year
The rapper has been named Billboard's 2025 Woman of the Year and will be honored at an event taking place later this month, the publication announced on Monday.
A newcomer in the rap genre, Doechii has skyrocketed in popularity with her viral hits 'No Scrubs' and 'Denial is a River,' which peaked at the No. 21 spot on the Hot 100.
In January, she won her first-ever Grammy for her 2024 album 'Alligator Bites Never Heal' in the best rap album category, becoming only the third woman in the award show's history to win the honor. (She had also earned nominations for best new artist and best rap performance.) That same night, Doechii made her debut on the Grammys stage with an energetic performance of 'Denial is a River' and 'Catfish.'
The Tampa-bred artist has had five songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100, including 'Balloon' and 'ExtraL,' her collaborations with Tyler the Creator and Jennie, respectively.
Doechii previously received recognition from Billboard in 2023 when she was named the publication's Music Rising Star award. She is only the third woman to go on to earn the Women of the Year honor, following Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
In a statement, Billboard's editor-in-chief Hannah Karp praised Doechii's 'ultra-candid lyrics and utterly unique sound, style and spirit.'
Past recipients of Billboard's Woman of the Year honor include SZA, Billie Eilish, Madonna and Taylor Swift, among others.
At Billboard's 2025 Women in Music event, where Doechii will be honored, other awards will also be handed out. Jennie is set to to receive the songwriter of the year honor, Erykah Badu will receive the breakthrough award and pop singer Meghan Trainor will receive this year's hitmaker award. Ángela Aguilar, aespa, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long and Tyla are all set to perform.
The event will air live on VIZIO WatchFree+ on March 29 at 10 p.m. ET/at 7 p.m. PT.

Noel said he's on 'top of the world' at the moment, professing to be 'completely blown away' by how the gigs the reunited band have played so far have been received. 'It's difficult to put into words, actually,' said the band's lyricist. 'Every night is the crowd's first night, so every night's got that same kind of energy. It's been truly amazing… I'm not usually short for words, but I can't really articulate it at the minute.' Asked how he was feeling on July 4 in Cardiff, Wales, when the band were gearing up to take the stage for the first show of a tour pretty much nobody thought would ever happen, Noel said Oasis have never been one of those bands who have a prayerful 'huddle' before they go on. That said, speaking just for himself, Noel admitted he, 'grossly underestimated what I was getting into… After about five minutes I was like, 'All right, can I just go back to the dressing room and start this again?' I've done stadiums before and all but, but I don't mind telling you my legs are turned to jelly after about halfway through the second song.' Summing it up, Noel said simply, 'it's been an amazing thing.' Reflecting on the emotional hug the brothers shared at the end of the first reunion show in July, Noel said, 'we're not those kind of guys, really… It's great just to be back with [guitarist] Bonehead and Liam and just be doing it again. I guess when it's all said and done we'll sit and reflect on it, but it's great being back in a band with Liam. I forgot how funny he was.' Giving his former sibling rival props for sounding great at the shows, Noel said, 'Liam's smashing it. I'm proud of him.' After fronting his own band for the 16 years they were apart — the High Flying Birds — Noel said he knows the pressures of being the lead singer and admitted, 'I couldn't do the stadium thing like he does it…. I kind of look around and I think, 'You know, good for you, mate.' He's been amazing.' 'When it all started, the ticket sales and all that, there was a few people who I would have expected to [be] looking for tickets who didn't,' he said. 'But after the first gig my phone just exploded.' Saying he feels bad for those who are left outside on the streets singing the band's songs at top volume after getting shut out on getting tickets, Noel said the showering of love is 'mental… it's more than the band. Looking forward, Noel said he's really looking forward to playing one of the band's last shows, at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Nov. 15 and 16. Tory Lanez's lawyers push to overturn conviction in Megan Thee Stallion shooting case
As Tory Lanez serves a 10-year prison sentence for the shooting that injured Megan Thee Stallion, the rapper's lawyers are working to appeal his 2022 conviction. Speaking to a panel of judges in California's Second District Court of Appeal on Aug. 18, Lanez's attorney, Laura Cepero, argued that the DNA evidence the prosecution presented during his trial was misleading, according to Billboard and XXL Magazine. "It is actually marginally more likely that another member of the African American population touched this gun over Mr. Peterson," Cepero said, according to the outlets. "If our jury had heard that Mr. Peterson maybe one in a million touched the gun, I believe that would have been enough to tip that scale and show reasonable doubt." Another attorney on Lanez's defense team, Jose A. Baez, told USA TODAY in a statement, "I would say it is a statistical fact that any random African American male was more likely a contributor to the DNA on the gun than Daystar Peterson. "In fact, the DNA community has a random profile that is used as a control sample, and that profile was determined to match the mixture found on the gun rather than Daystar Peterson," he continued. "To be clear, it would be reckless and a complete fabrication to say that Tory's DNA was on that gun and to not exclude him as a contributor." 'Recovering remarkably': Tory Lanez's father gives health update after prison stabbing During arguments on behalf of the prosecution, according to courtroom footage shared by XXL Magazine and journalist Meghann Cuniff, California Deputy Attorney General Michael C. Keller said, "There's three times in which (Lanez) tacitly admitted to being the shooter." Among the evidence, Keller said, was a text to Megan in which he apologized to her for something that "never should have happened," blamed alcohol for the unspecified action and said she "probably" would never talk to him again. During the trial, Lanez denied that the messages were related to the shooting. "He was clearly accepting responsibility for something very big," Keller told the judges, per the videos. USA TODAY has reached out to the California Attorney General's office for comment. During Lanez's closely watched trial, it was determined that the DNA found on the handgun that discharged the bullet was inconclusive. Tory Lanez dealt legal blow after prison stabbing The oral arguments took place in Los Angeles nearly a week after appeals court judges largely denied two of his petitions related to the case, according to court records reviewed by USA TODAY. In the filings, known as habeas corpus petitions, Lanez's legal team reportedly challenged his conviction by alleging they have obtained new testimony, according to Rolling Stone and Billboard. They also once again cast doubt on some of the evidence presented during his 2022 trial, the outlets reported. The appeals court rulings were filed Aug. 12. Previously, in a May 19 TikTok post, Megan hit back after Lanez's team indicated they had new information that corroborated his claim that he did not fire the weapon. "At what point are y'all gonna stop making me have to re-live being shot BY TORY !?" she wrote. "At what point are Tory and y'all FANS gonna stop lying? ... FACTS ARE FACTS, he did it, it was PROVEN IN COURT." In May, Lanez was hospitalized after he was stabbed multiple times by a fellow inmate. Afterward, his father announced that he was "recovering remarkably." Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted in 2022 of shooting Megan in the ankle after an alleged argument in the Los Angeles area. The Canadian singer-songwriter, who pleaded not guilty on all counts ahead of his trial, was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm; having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Justin Bieber impersonator dupes Las Vegas nightclub, sings on stage
The nightclub's parent company said in a statement that the impersonator orchestrated "an elaborate and multi-step ruse." Justin Bieber joined a popular DJ onstage and performed at a Las Vegas nightclub. Except that he didn't. Gryffin, a San Francisco-born DJ and music producer, was performing at the XS Nightclub inside the Wynn Las Vegas hotel on Aug. 16 when he was told that Bieber was at the venue and wanted to perform, he said in a video posted on his Instagram. "His 'team' said he wanted to perform 'Sorry,'" a text overlay on the video read. "Little did I know I was about to be sorry." The Bieber on stage with Gryffin was not the Grammy award-winning singer, but rather an impersonator. The DJ's video added that the look-alike performed on stage for several minutes and "sounded like Justin Bieber." "biebergate2025," the DJ captioned his post. Nightclub says impersonator carried out 'elaborate' dupe Wynn Las Vegas said in a statement to USA TODAY that the impersonator duped the club's staff. "After an elaborate and multi-step ruse by him and his advance team, a Justin Bieber impersonator was granted access to the XS stage," the statement reads. "As soon as the error was recognized, he was removed from the resort and denied future entry." In Gryffin's video, a man with a buzzed haircut, tattoos and sunglasses is seen performing Bieber's hit song, "Sorry." "Bieber in the house, y'all," Gryffin says into a microphone. Following the performance, the video shows Gryffin saying, "That was insane," before someone puts their arm around him and breaks the news that the singer on stage was not the real Bieber. "No way," Gryffin says, to which the individual responds, "Swear on my life." Justin Bieber impersonator denies trying to dupe club In a series of social media posts, a French Justin Bieber impersonator named Dylan Desclos confirmed that he was the onstage performer. Desclos's manager, Julien Colas, said in a written statement to USA TODAY that he went to the club as an impersonator and someone asked if he would like to perform. "We did many performance as impersonator," Colas said. "What have we to won by saying we are the real one? That's not our way to work. Cause, yes, it's a job. We don't want to hurt anyone."
