West Ham midfielder Paqueta cleared of alleged betting breaches by FA
Last year, the 27-year-old was charged with deliberately seeking to receive a booking during four Premier League games between November 2022 to August 2023 against Leicester City, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Bournemouth.
The FA said it was alleged that Paqueta sought to influence the progress, conduct, or any other aspect of, or occurrence in those matches by deliberately trying to get booked to manipulate the betting market for the benefit of others.
"Paqueta denied the charges against him, and a Regulatory Commission found them to be not proven following a hearing," the FA said in a statement.
The Brazilian has been charged with two breaches in relation to alleged failures to comply with his obligations to answer questions and provide information to the FA investigation.
Paqueta, who was facing the risk of a lifetime ban, denied the alleged spot-fixing charges and expressed frustration over media coverage of the matter, which he said was misleading.
"Since the first day of this investigation, I have maintained my innocence against these extremely serious accusations," Paqueta said in a statement on Thursday.
"I would like to express how grateful I am to God and how eager I am to return to playing football with a smile on my face. To my wife, to West Ham United, to the fans who always cheered me on, and to my family, friends and the legal team who have supported me, thank you."
The FA began their investigation of the alleged betting breaches in August 2023. In October last year, Paqueta urged the FA to investigate how information from its case against him had been leaked to the media.
"We are pleased Lucas has been cleared ... as a club we have resolutely stood by him and supported him throughout the process," West Ham Vice-Chair Karren Brady said.
"Despite the incredible pressure on him, Lucas has performed week in and week out for the club, always giving everything. It has been a difficult time for Lucas and his family, but he has remained absolutely professional throughout."

Cadillac will add value as 11th F1 team, says McLaren's Brown
LONDON :Cadillac's arrival in Formula One next year as an 11th team will bring added financial value with new partners and more fan engagement rather than diluting resources, according to McLaren's American chief executive Zak Brown. The General Motors-backed team have taken staff already from rival outfits, their European headquarters at Silverstone being close to other factories, and are also competing for sponsorship. Brown, whose team are dominating this year's championship after winning the 2024 constructors' title, saw no reason to fear a dilution of resources, however. "I think on employees they are definitely going to take a lot more than they give, which is fine," he said at last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. "My general view is if someone wants to go work for a rival team then shame on me. "For sponsors, I think they'll bring more new to the table than take." Brown expected Cadillac also to bring more competition eventually, although they faced a tough challenge as newcomers, and more fans to a series that now has three U.S. rounds and a growing audience in America. "Will we get a better U.S. TV deal, more American presence? I think their sponsors and Cadillac will spend money in the sport, the teams get a percentage of that so I see them as a value add to the sport," he added. "I'm not worried about maybe some of the short term-ness of they are going to take an employee here or there or poach a sponsor here or there. I think the contribution will be bigger than that." Cadillac secured approval of their bid in March, after a 764-day entry process and initial opposition from Formula One and the other 10 teams wary of a potential reduction in the share of revenues. The team are also backed by TWG Global, whose CEO Mark Walter has an estimated net worth of $12.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The first new team since U.S.-owned Haas debuted in 2016 said in July they were already two thirds of the way towards a targeted headcount of 600 by next season and no longer even the smallest outfit.

Former South Korea coach Shin takes over at Ulsan HD
South Korean champions Ulsan HD have appointed former national team manager Shin Tae-yong as their coach, the K-League club said on Tuesday. The 54-year-old replaces Kim Pan-gon, who left Ulsan by mutual consent after the weekend's 3-2 loss to Suwon FC. Shin, who led South Korea at the 2018 World Cup and most recently worked as Indonesia coach, takes over with Ulsan seventh in the standings, 23 points adrift of leaders Jeonbuk Motors after 24 matches. Kim left after 13 months in the role having replaced Hong Myung-bo following his appointment as South Korea coach in July last year. Kim guided the club to the league title last season and was in charge during their involvement in the Club World Cup in the United States in June. Ulsan's first game under Shin, who last worked in the K-League in 2012 at Seongnam Ilhwa, is on Saturday against Jeju United.
