Where are we heading to as a society: Khan Sir reacts strongly to Muzaffarpur rape case
Speaking to IANS, Khan Sir said, 'This is not just a case of crime, this is a question of our collective humanity."
Describing the inhumanity of the incident, he said, 'Arif Mohammad Khan (Bihar Governor), who came to meet me, was very shaken. He told us, 'How can a human being be so devoid of empathy that a child – a 11-year-old girl – comes out limping after being raped, and even then, the system fails to respond?' She was taken away in an ambulance, and even then, she was shuttled between hospitals without proper treatment.'
'Where are we going as a society? The pain of another should feel like our own – this is the essence of humanity. If we lose this, then what is the difference between humans and animals?" he told IANS.
Khan Sir further called on the legal fraternity to introspect.
'Why do some lawyers take up the cases of such criminals—rapists, acid attackers, and murderers? I know many responsible lawyers who refuse to fight for someone they know is guilty. It's time more people follow this principle. The unity and conscience of the legal community can make a real difference.'
He also wished the nation on Bakra Eid, expressing his deep respect for Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who visited his classroom on the occasion.
'It's our good fortune that someone as intellectual and compassionate as Arif Mohammad Khan is serving as our Governor,' he said.
Sharing an anecdote from the visit, Khan Sir recalled how the Governor insisted on visiting the classroom and was moved by the inclusive atmosphere.
'We have reserved front-row benches for a person with disability. They study free of cost, and we make sure they get the best experience. When the Governor saw this, he was impressed and even expressed interest in taking a class here someday.'
Calling it a proud moment, Khan Sir added, 'He said, 'Tell me a topic and I will come to teach your students.' It's a great honour, and we are looking forward to that day.'
When asked about his personal life, as he was recently married, he said, 'Everything is normal, just like any other couple.'
Khan Sir further responded to the Bihar government's action of suspending the Medical Superintendent of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur, where the girl was allegedly denied timely treatment.
'The suspension is a start, but it's not enough. There should be a clear protocol for critical cases. If someone is shot or raped, you don't delay treatment for paperwork. She died in the ambulance, waiting for admission. This is not just negligence – it's criminal apathy.'
He proposed systemic reforms in hospital operations.
'In big hospitals, there is always a separate corridor for emergencies. Why don't we have one in Bihar's biggest government hospital? There should be a direct route for super-critical cases. A building alone doesn't make a hospital – it's the system and intent inside that matter.'
'In smaller towns or villages, you can understand some lack of infrastructure. But in Muzaffarpur? This is unacceptable. It brings shame to the entire district, the entire state.'
Khan Sir concluded with a plea: 'We need to look within. These brutal crimes are becoming frequent. The time for silence is over. We have to stand up – as citizens, as educators, as humans. Because if we don't, we fail not just the victim, but the idea of humanity itself.'

Bihar Governor lauds T.N. government for exempting philanthropic non-profit organisations from property tax
Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Friday commended the Tamil Nadu government for providing property tax exemption for buildings of non-profit organisations, such as Harijan Sevak Sangh, that work on philanthropic lines for the welfare of the weaker sections and promotion of Indian culture. Speaking at the dedication of Annapoorna Block of the Harijan Sevak Sangh in the city on Friday, Mohammad Khan said the new building was necessary to protect the girls in the hostel on McNichols Road during the northeast monsoon floods in Chennai. The girls belonging to the weaker sections from various parts of Tamil Nadu pursue education from the premises which has been developed with support from the corporate sector. Pointing to the incidence of flooding events in Chennai during the Northeast monsoon season, Mr. Arif Mohammad Khan said the girls used to be relocated during the monsoon. 'The new building will provide a secure environment for girls in academic pursuit towards upward economic and social mobility,' he said. Stressing the need for education of women from all sections of the society, Mr. Arif Mohammad Khan said: 'If you educate a man, you educate an individual. If you educate a woman you educate a whole family.' Lack of education was the greatest barrier to India's progress, he said. The Harijan Sevak Sangh was carrying forward the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, educating underprivileged girls, he said. 'Much still remains to be done. We need corporate support,' he said. P. Maruti, State president of Harijan Sevak Sangh said the institution will adopt orphan children across the State to provide education and sensitise them in the values of Indian culture. Harijan Sevak Sangh national president Sankar Kumar Sanyal said the corporate sector has supported the cause of such organisations. The Governor distributed Harijan Bandhu Awards and unveiled portraits of Nirmala Deshpande, and Ashok Kumar Goel.

Govt. blamed for making SC students pay full fee for engg. courses
HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar has alleged that the Congress Government is doing grave injustice to Dalit (Scheduled Castes) students, who have secured seats in engineering courses, by making them pay full fee. Mr. Praveen Kumar said on Friday that this was happening to Dalit students despite the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka in the government, G. Prasad Kumar as the Assembly Speaker and Mallikarjun Kharge as the AICC president. So far, the tuition fee and maintenance fee of SC students was being reimbursed by the government, but from this year, they were being forced to pay the full fee as the new guidelines issued by the government state that the fee reimbursement amount would be credited to the bank accounts of students. As a result, many SC students who had secured ranks in EAPCET and secured seats in colleges were being forced to pay full fee with the college managements denying admissions for non-payment of full fee. Earlier, the colleges used to give admissions without asking for any tuition fee from the SC students as they would get it later as fee reimbursement from the government. He sought to know from the Congress Government whether it was planning to deny professional educational courses to SC students due to their inability to pay full fee on their own. He also asked why such guidelines were issued only for SC students, when other reserved categories were getting admissions in the process that had been in vogue all through.

Dalit leaders demand high-level probe into death of Dalit student at Central University of Karnataka
Members of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti demanded a high-level probe into the alleged suicide of a Dalit student in Central University of Karnataka (CUK) –Kalaburagi on July 30, and expressed concern over the death of BSc 2nd year student from Odisha, who ended her life following alleged sexual harassment in the campus. DSS Sate Convener D.G. Sagar addressing presspersons in Kalaburagi city on Friday said that though the victim had complained to the Dean of Students Welfare, no action was taken against him. The CUK has recently been the subject of several controversies. Similarly another Dalit student has leveled allegations of sexual harassment against a canteen staff at university campus, though the student had complained about the issue to Student's Welfare Cell, the authorities have failed to take any action against the canteen staff. Mr. Sagar said that few months ago, a professor's brother who is running a milk parlour on the campus premises, allegedly misbehaved with students, the University Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana and Registrar R.R. Biradar and Dean of Students Welfare Basavaraj Kubakaddi tried to suppress the matter instead of taking stern action against him. The university was exhibiting an anti-Dalit approach through various forms of discrimination against Dalit students, which is directly impacting their academic and social well-being; though the State government wants to establish residential hostels for Dalit and minority students on campus, the university authorities have deliberately considered not providing land, Mr. Sagar claimed. Alleging irregularities in the recent appointments to the post of professor at CUK, Mr. Sagar said that Mr. Satyanarayana (vice-chancellor) favored candidates from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh depriving the eligible candidates from within Karnataka.
