FA chief gives Sarina Wiegman contract update after Euro 2025 success
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham labelled Wiegman's leadership as 'incredible' and promised that contract talks would take place 'at an appropriate time'.
Wiegman masterminded her third successive European Championship triumph with Sunday's penalty shoot-out success over Spain to ensure England retained the trophy they won for the first time in 2022.
The Dutch coach is contracted to the Football Association until after the 2027 World Cup.
FA chief executive Bullingham told BBC Sport: 'She's an incredible person, incredible coach and incredible leader.
'We're very lucky to have her, proud to have her as part of the team and obviously she will be working with us for the World Cup.'
Pressed on when contract talks would take place, Bullingham said: 'It's a bit early for that.
'We are delighted she is with us for the World Cup and we will have that conversation at an appropriate time.
'She is an incredible manager and we're delighted to be working with her, so that has to be up to her. We will have those conversations when they're ready to go.'
Wiegman, 55, has been England head coach since 2021 and guided the team to two European Championship titles and a runners-up finish at the 2023 World Cup.
After Sunday's final, Wiegman said: 'I have been here four years and it just feels like my home away from home.
'I always enjoy it when I'm at work, when I'm in England.
'It is just the people, the sporting culture.
'I really love the sporting culture and the fans, of course.
'It is the connection I have with the people; we are very, very close. The people at the FA, with everyone.'
When asked if she had 'fallen in love' with England, she added: 'Yes, I have.
'Otherwise, I would not be sitting here with such a smile on my face.'

Two charges related to an alleged failure to co-operate with the FA were proven, with the FA stating that an appropriate sanction would be decided by the regulatory commission at the earliest opportunity. He told the PA news agency: 'A circumstantial evidence case is built on various strands of evidence and, as a lawyer, you look at those strands of evidence and consider where they are subject to question or attack. That's how we approached it.' Paqueta's legal team also featured well-known sports law barrister Nick De Marco. Campbell said there had not been detailed pleading on sanctions at the hearing but added the FA would have been looking for 'north' of the 10-year ban imposed on Isaac. Campbell revealed reports of unusual betting activity had been the 'genesis' of the FA investigation. He said the FA had never claimed Paqueta had sought to benefit personally from the alleged misconduct. West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady welcomed the decision by the commission and said: 'We are pleased Lucas has been cleared. He has maintained his innocence from the outset and as a club we have resolutely stood by him and supported him throughout the process. 'Despite the incredible pressure on him, Lucas has performed week in and week out for the club, always giving everything. 'It has been a difficult time for Lucas and his family, but he has remained absolutely professional throughout and he is now looking forward to drawing a line under this episode, as is everyone at West Ham.' Sheffield Wednesday players refuse to play friendly as wages are late again
Sheffield Wednesday 's players have refused to feature in a friendly this weekend after the club failed to pay their wages on time for the fourth time in five months. The Championship club were due to face Premier League side Burnley in a behind-closed-doors game but it is understood the Wednesday players are refusing to play. The Owls appointed Henrik Pedersen as their new head coach on Thursday following the departure of Danny Rohl and, just hours later, Saturday's friendly was cancelled as players and coaching staff decided to boycott the match after not receiving July's monthly salary on time. Rohl left Hillsborough on Tuesday during a chaotic summer which has seen Wednesday placed under a number of embargoes because of financial issues. Players were paid late in May and June, while this is the fourth time in the last five months that salaries have been delayed. The club are currently under an English Football League embargo for unpaid transfer fees and owner Dejphon Chansiri is trying to sell the cash-strapped Sky Bet Championship club. It is understood there is increasing concern within the EFL over the growing crisis at the club and that extends to whether Wednesday will be able to fulfil their opening Sky Bet Championship fixture at Leicester on August 10. Thai businessman Chansiri completed his takeover from previous owner Milan Mandaric January 2015 for a reported £30million and the club twice went close to promotion to the Premier League when losing out in the 2016 and 2017 play-offs. Since then Wednesday have lurched from one financial crisis to another. They were first placed under an EFL embargo in 2017 over profitability and sustainability rules and were docked 12 points – reduced to six on appeal – at the start of the 2020-21 season for further financial breaches. The Owls were placed under embargo for late salary payments to players and staff in 2024, while a player registration embargo is also in place for unpaid transfer fees. New boss Pedersen admitted the club were in 'rough waters' following his appointment, with registration restrictions and the departure of several key players leaving him with a threadbare squad. Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba have been sold this summer to Rangers and Samsunspor respectively, while Josh Windass and Michael Smith had their contracts terminated by mutual consent to allow them to join Wrexham and Preston. The latest missed payments to players and staff heaps further pressure on Chansiri, who insists he is willing to sell the club for the right price. He recently revealed he had rejected one consortium's £40million bid, while talks with various other interested parties have stalled.
