British man arrested at Disneyland Paris after trying to marry girl, 9, in private wedding

A private event had been organised to take place in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at the theme park, but Disney cast members were alerted by the sight of a child.
A British man has been arrested at Disneyland Paris after an apparent attempt to wed a nine-year-old girl in a private ceremony.
Disney staff alerted authorities after spotting the 22-year-old man with a young girl, who was wearing four-inch heels taped to her feet and accompanied by her Ukrainian mother, at a private event held at 5am on Saturday, before the park opened to the public.
The wedding was scheduled to occur at dawn in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, reports the Mirror. The French venue had been rented for a wedding, but the organisers did not disclose their plans to Disney.
According to reports from BFM TV in France, Disneyland Paris was misled about the event's nature. The organiser allegedly impersonated a Latvian national and used fraudulent documents to secure the contract for the park's privatisation.
Reports suggest guests were recruited online through advertisements seeking 200 adults and 100 children aged between five and 15 to act as attendees at a 'rehearsal' for a Disneyland wedding.
BFM obtained video footage showing approximately 100 seated guests awaiting the ceremony while a female violin trio performed at dawn on a stage adorned with flowers. The event reportedly cost around £110,000.
"Four people were arrested and questioned: the groom, who was believed to be the organiser of the event and is presumed to be British, aged 22; the mother of the child, a 41-year-old Ukrainian woman; and two Latvian nationals aged 55 and 24", according to a statement from the prosecutor's office in the nearby town of Meaux, France.
The 55-year-old Latvian man alleges he was hired to impersonate the bride's father for 12,000 euros, only to discover at the last minute she was nine years old, as per local news reports.
Disneyland Paris informed French newspaper Le Parisien its team promptly shut down the event and prevented guests from entering the venue.
The nature of the wedding remains uncertain, whether it was a publicity stunt or an actual ceremony. A medical examination revealed that the young girl had not been subjected to any violence, stated the prosecutor's office.
A police source indicated the groom claims to be the head of a production company and they were filming a video.
An updated statement from the prosecutor's office clarified: "So it wasn't a wedding, but a staged wedding filmed with around a hundred extras. They privatised Disneyland Paris, pretending it was a real wedding."

Two suspects have been charged with 'fraud and breach of trust' against Disneyland Paris.
One guest at the wedding told Le Parisien: "We all thought we were going to attend a wedding... Everyone was stunned, no one expected it. Disneyland did things very well.
"They canceled everything as soon as they realised the bride was a child. We were shocked to see that."
Another guest, Yeleen, who attended the ceremony with her daughter, recounted: "I saw a little girl dressed in white. I saw her hair prepared with curls and a lady picking her up in her arms.
"At that moment, I was shocked. I realised when I saw the child. It was atrocious."

Ibiza holiday mass poolside brawl as woman knocked out with flying chair

The clash erupted at the Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio on the Balearic Island. Ibiza's legendary party scene was interrupted this weekend as a dramatic poolside brawl broke out at a popular hotel, with footage showing a woman copping a blow from a flying chair in the madness. The wild scenes at the renowned Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio were caught on camera and quickly went viral on Instagram after being uploaded by user @sanantonioibiza. ‌ What started as an idyllic sun-soaked afternoon by the pool spiralled into complete chaos as a group of holidaymakers tangled in a scrap. The clip shows several individuals grappling and losing their footing on the slick surfaces around the pool area, adding to the turmoil, reports the Mirror. ‌ During the melee, a man dressed in navy shorts is spotted lobbing a chair in the direction of others already in the water. A woman wearing a dark swimsuit gets caught up in the brawl and falls over, while two more stumble over toppled chairs. Despite a lifeguard attempting to intercept the airborne chair, his efforts are in vain as the chaos continues. Additional members of the hotel team are seen trying to calm the storm. Ironically, all the drama unfolded beneath a sign that read "Good Vibes Only". Adding to the irony, Jess Glynne's hit song Hold My Hand, famously used as the upbeat anthem for Jet2Holidays, can be heard playing clearly in the background. The Instagram footage was humorously titled: "Yeah, a chair flew... but so did the vibes. Only at Marco Polo #ibizaexperience #ibizaunfiltered". The comments section exploded with reactions from viewers, left both horrified and amused by the clip. One user joked: "The message on the wall is the best thing", while another pointed out: "The more you watch, the more you see." ‌ Yet, some were concerned for the woman's welfare, questioning: "Is anyone going to see how that poor woman is doing?" A few connected the brawl to wider issues, remarking: "No wonder the Spanish people are striking." The cause of the fight remains unclear, and hotel staff have yet to comment on the incident. The video has sparked renewed discussions about tourism, behaviour, and respect in one of Europe's most popular holiday hotspots.

Family of chef who died on Mike Lynch's yacht say ‘lessons need to be learned'

Seven people died when the Bayesian sank off Porticello in Sicily on August 19, including billionaire Mr Lynch, 59, and his daughter Hannah, 18. On Monday the 56-metre (184ft) boat was placed in a manufactured steel cradle in Termini Imerese, a town where British and Italian investigators will carry out a full probe into the sinking. A source close to the salvage team said: 'Everyone is glad to have reached the conclusion of this major part of the project.' A crane lifts tech tycoon Mike Lynch's superyacht the Bayesian (Peter Byrne/PA) The family of Canadian-Antiguan national Recaldo Thomas, 59, a chef who died on the vessel, said they now await the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB)'s analysis of the yacht. James Healy-Pratt, a partner at Keystone Law, on behalf of the Thomas Family, said: 'Lessons need to be learned from this tragedy, as well as establishing the truth of what happened and bringing those responsible to justice.' Italian prosecutors have said raising and examining the yacht will provide key information for its investigation into the sinking. Simon Graves, an MAIB investigator, previously told the PA news agency: 'When the wreck is brought ashore, we'll be completing a full examination of the wreck and we'll be finding out all of the elements that might have contributed to the safety of the vessel.' Further details such as 'escape routes' will be included in its final report on the sinking, according to Mr Graves, who added: 'Once we get access to the vessel we'll be able to tell a fuller picture of activities on board and the sequence of events.' Seven people died when the Bayesian sank (Peter Byrne/PA) Meanwhile, salvage workers are conducting a 'full sweep' of the seabed near Porticello for any potential debris, a project insider said. Balloon-like kit will be used to lift the Bayesian's mast this week. The 72-metre (236ft) mast was cut off using a remote-controlled tool and rested on the seabed. About 70 specialist personnel had been mobilised to Porticello from across Europe to work on the recovery operation. Inquest proceedings in the UK are looking at the deaths of Mr Lynch and his daughter Hannah as well as Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer, 70, and his wife, Judy Bloomer, 71, who were all British nationals. The others who died in the sinking were US lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo. Fifteen people, including Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, were rescued.

Russian attacks on Ukraine kill at least 10 people, most of them in Kyiv

Russian drones and missiles killed at least 10 civilians in Ukraine in overnight attacks, local officials said, with seven deaths reported in the capital, Kyiv. Russia fired 352 drones and decoys overnight, as well as 11 ballistic missiles and five cruise missiles, Ukraine's air force said. Air defences intercepted or jammed 339 drones and 15 missiles before they could reach their targets, a statement said. The strikes came nearly a week after a Russian attack killed 28 people in Kyiv, 23 of them in a residential building that collapsed after a direct missile hit. Russian forces for several months have been trying to drive deeper into Ukraine as part of a summer push along the 620-mile front line, though the Institute for the Study of War said progress has failed to make significant gains. 'Russian forces are largely relying on poorly trained infantry to make gains in the face of Ukraine's drone-based defence,' the Washington-based think tank said late Sunday. Russia also has pounded civilian areas with long-range strikes in an apparent attempt to weaken Ukrainian morale. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said preliminary data indicated that Russian forces used North Korean missiles in the Kyiv strike. He called Russia, North Korea and Iran, which has provided drones to Russia, a 'coalition of murderers'. Mr Zelensky said Ukraine's defence and new ways to pressure Russia will be the two main topics in his visit to the United Kingdom on Monday. Mr Zelensky is set to meet with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer ahead of this week's Nato summit in The Hague. French foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot said the latest strikes demonstrated Russia's 'unlimited cruelty' by deliberately aiming at civilian targets, and promised more European sanctions on Moscow. Drones and missiles hit residential areas, hospitals and sports infrastructure in numerous districts across Kyiv, emergency services said. The most severe damage was in Shevchenkivskyi district, where a section of a five-story apartment building collapsed. Six people were killed in the district, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Ten others, including a pregnant woman, were rescued from a nearby high-rise that also sustained heavy damage. Dozens of vehicles were burned or mangled by flying debris. The Russian attack also damaged the entrance to the Sviatoshyn subway station in Kyiv, slightly injuring two people, said Timur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military administration. He said more than 30 people were injured across the city. Underground subway stations have served as shelters for those seeking protection from aerial attacks. During almost nightly strikes, stations across Kyiv are often filled with people waiting out the danger. Elsewhere in Ukraine, a Russian short-range drone attack killed two people and wounded 10 more in the Chernihiv region late on Sunday, authorities said. Three children were among the wounded, according to the regional administration head, Viacheslav Chaus. Another person was killed and eight wounded overnight in the city of Bila Tserkva, around 53 miles south west of the capital.
