The English player was interviewed by Sky Sports on stage at Winter Gardens in Blackpool after his match.
However, his answer to the presenter's first question left both James and darts pros stunned.
Goldfinger said: "Thank you. I don't know what happened.
"I've spent two days in the hotel room, getting stiff and come up here today feeling absolutely awful and somehow it happened."

Continuing on his low-key prep for the tournament, Gilding added: "We went out for fish and chips but that's about it really..."
Asked what about Blackpool brings out the best in him, he said: "All the Goldfinger scarves. I've got a lot more support over the years."
On the support he was receiving from fans, the World No28 continued: "It's amazing. I can't believe it. Thump my chest for it."
Gilding concluded by saying he would not be watching the nights remaining games to discover his opponent, admitting he doesn't care who he plays next.
As it turns out, his next opponent will be reigning world champion Luke Littler.
The World No2 survived a major scare from Jermaine Wattimena to come back from 4-0 down in his second round clash.
Elsewhere, Gian van Veen is taking on James Wade and Stephen Bunting is facing Jonny Clayton.
Gerwyn Price will face the winner of Michael van Gerwen's clash with Josh Rock.

Jonny Clayton 'did not want to play darts' as he makes honest admission after family tragedy
World Matchplay semi-finalist Jonny Clayton has revealed how his motivation for darts was drained after a family tragedy, but he's now targeting a return to the elite Jonny Clayton has said he was on the verge of giving up darts for good following the sudden death of his dad, John. But after a semi-final finish at the World Matchplay, the Welshman is well on the mend and has rediscovered his motivation to compete. 'The Ferret' was due to fly to the other side of the globe for the World Series in July 2023 when he received word of his father's death. And it was then Clayton started to find it difficult to concentrate on his darts commitments. He has since made a return to form after reaching the final of the World Masters in February. That marked his first PDC major final in almost two years, and he came within inches of adding another tournament decider to his record at the Winter Gardens. Clayton, 50, defeated Stephen Bunting 16-7 before falling 20-18 to James Wade in the semis of the World Matchplay. But he has chosen to take the positives from that result after detailing just how close he came to packing it in for good. "I've changed my mind! I've got the hunger back," he said after beating Stephen Bunting to reach the last four in Blackpool. "I don't know what it is. I felt a bit down in darts, but I want to be one of the best. 'It hurts that I've dropped from world No. 5 to nine with the rankings, but I'm climbing back up slowly. I want to be with the elite. "When you're there, people respect you more than what they do when you are further down the rankings. If you're not playing well, no matter your ranking, people pick up on it. But if you're playing well, it's a step in the right direction. I had to do a job against Stephen, and I did." He narrowly missed out on repeating the trick against 'The Machine', fighting back from 16-10 down to lose on a tiebreak. He and Wade now hold the record for the longest semi-final in World Matchplay history. Clayton has opened up in the past about the toll it took to lose his dad, describing the deep bond they shared. But he appears to have finally reached a place of acceptance, and it's showing in his performances at the oche. "We all know two years ago with my dad passing I just did not want to play," he continued. "I have a smile back on my face now, and I have two kids who want me to do well." The former plasterer, who only gave up his day job in 2022, went on to say he doesn't believe he has "hit top gear" just yet and has more to offer. Not only that, but he's back on the practice board, something he hasn't done "for probably a year-and-a-half." It was back in May that Clayton also ended his wait of more than two years for a European Tour title. He clinched the Dutch Darts Championship after coming back from 5-2 down to defeat Niko Springer in Rosmalen and celebrate another landmark moment. He and countryman Gerwyn Price also snagged a silver medal at this year's World Cup of Darts. The Welsh duo finished second to the Northern Irish pairing of Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney, having won the trophy themselves two years prior. The 2021 Premier League champion may have been a late arrival to the PDC after only joining their ranks 10 years ago. But Clayton appears eager to make up for lost time.

Director Harvey focuses on Wrexham AFC transfer 'model'
The Reds have enjoyed a meteoric rise over recent seasons, with back-to-back-to-back promotions taking Phil Parkinson's side from the National League all the way up to the Championship. Now just one step below the top flight, Wrexham fans can really dream about seeing their team play in the Premier League. Speaking on his FozCast programme, ex-Reds' keeper Ben Foster touched on this rise through the divisions and Wrexham soon having to think about the 'eye-watering' nature and potential 'jeopardy' of Premier League transfers. Club director Harvey said: 'I think we're there now, in truth. 'I don't think we have to wait for the Premier League. Our model's always been we wanted to sign players that were at least used to playing one division higher than that we were playing in. 'Now, if we're going to do that now, we're signing players who are Premier League quality. They want Premier League wages now. 'We've actually probably sub-divided the Championship into top end and bottom end, and even if you're looking at signing players from the top end of the Championship to come and help you on your journey, they're earning fortunes more. 'Our wage bill now, a month, will be more than we paid for the whole time we were in the National League, probably. 'Now, obviously, income's gone up as well, so it's not just a one-way street. 'But, the actual real mechanic is fascinating.' It's been a busy summer already for Wrexham, ahead of sampling action in the second tier for the first time in more than four decades. Midfielder Lewis O'Brien is the latest acquisition, making the move from top flight Nottingham Forest, while Wrexham have also signed Ryan Hardie, Danny Ward, Liberato Cacace, George Thomason and Josh Windass. Wrexham kick-off their Championship campaign at Southampton, relegated from the Premier League, on Saturday, August 9.

Man Utd tipped to sign another huge Arsenal talent by former coach
Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has tipped Ruben Amorim to launch an audacious bid to sign Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri. The teenager made a stunning impact last season with his boyhood club and is now a firmly established member of Mikel Arteta's first team. Nwaneri followed up his breakthrough campaign by starring for England's Under-21 side that won the European Championship earlier this summer. The 18-year-old has featured prominently in pre-season so far and is understood to be on the cusp of signing a new long-term deal, despite significant transfer interest from Chelsea. With that contract still unsigned, however, Meulensteen hasn't ruled out the possibility of United coming up with a tempting counter offer. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. The likes of Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi have both found new homes at Old Trafford in the last 12 months having made their names at the increasingly prolific Hale End Academy. Nwaneri already has stiff competition for a place in Arsenal's midfield in the shape of Martin Odegaard and with Max Dowman making rapid progress he faces plenty of obstacles, not accounting for the potential arrival of Eberechi Eze from Cystal Palace. 'Ayden Heaven looks to be an astute bit of business and it's interesting that there is a pathway of players moving from Arsenal to Manchester United with Chido Obi another one,' Meulensteen told Grosvenor Casino. 'These players have had a good education and for whatever reason they didn't see a way forward at their particular club, United acted swiftly and we've seen them do well. 'Ethan Nwaneri could be another one, it's interesting that other Arsenal players have been keen on United. 'What I would say on Nwaneri, I think there will be a bit more of a tug-of-war going on and more financial demands than with those two.' United's current transfer focus appears to be centering on their search for a new centre forward with Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins their top targets. 'The opportunities that the young players have got here in the past,' Heaven told MUTV when asked why he decided to join Manchester United earlier this year. 'I think United had the most minutes given to teenagers last season [2023/24]. That convinced me to come here. 'And the people and the fans here are quite loving, and I felt that when I was playing. They're so supportive.' Given his age and Premier League experience, many view Watkins as the option most likely to register an instant impact, but Meulensteen fears it would foolish to draw comparisons with Robin van Persie who joined the club at a similar stage in his career. 'At that particular time, we had sort of this philosophy and strategy of bringing in younger players in and then developing them,' Sir Alex Ferguson's former No.2 said. 'However, we all felt that we needed quality and experience in that squad. 'We did have conversations with senior players in the squad just to test the water a little bit. In 2012 we all felt that they felt we needed somebody that had that wow factor when they walked through the door. More Trending 'That player was Robin Van Persie, that is a big wow. It gave everyone a lift and you don't need any time to get him settled, he was a proven player. 'Maybe that is less so with Ollie Watkins, Van Persie is considered one of the best players that has ever played in the Premier League and that is a high mark. 'For us at that particular time, we felt that we needed somebody to come in that complimented us. Obviously, that was a bullseye signing. 'We won the league and he scored 30 goals, it was fantastic.'
