Former Spartans OL Jarrett Horst signs with CFL's Montreal Alouettes Former Spartans offensive lineman Jarrett Horst is heading to the CFL on a two-year deal with the Montreal Alouettes
A former Michigan State Spartans offensive lineman is heading to the Canadian Football League.
Former Spartan Jarrett Horst signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL on Thursday, continuing his professional football league for at least another season. Horst most recently played for the Michigan Panthers of the United States Football League last year and the year prior to that was with the Miami Dolphins of the NFL.
According to a press release from the Alouettes, Horst has signed a two-year deal that will keep him with the organization through the 2026 season.
Horst played two seasons for Michigan State after transferring from Arkansas State in 2021. He started the first eight games of the 2021 season where the Spartans went 11-2 and won the Peach Bowl, but missed the final five games due to injury. He then appeared in eight games during the 2022 season.
The Montreal Alouettes open the 2025 season on June 6 against the Toronto Argonauts.

Highly-rated Oregon OL target announces commitment days before visit to Ducks
Highly-rated Oregon OL target announces commitment days before visit to Ducks The Oregon Ducks are preparing for the start of an incredibly busy recruiting month this weekend, with a ton of high-profile official visits on tap over the next several weeks. Unfortunately for Dan Lanning and Co., one of the top visits that they had scheduled is now in doubt. On Tuesday morning, it was announced that 4-star IOL Tommy Tofi, the No. 97 player in the class and No. 6 IOL, would be committing to the California Golden Bears. Tofi, who stands at 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, was scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon this weekend, but that trip is now in question coming off of his commitment to Justin Wilcox and the Golden Bears. Tofi is a San Francisco kid who has been near the top of Oregon's recruiting board for a long time and a big target in the offensive line room. He is coming off of an official visit to California last weekend, so the timing is understandable for him to make his commitment from that perspective, but he did have OVs scheduled to Oregon this weekend, followed by trips to Tennessee and BYU. While he is verbally committed at the moment, it would come as no surprise to see A'lique Terry and his team continue to push in his recruitment and try to flip him to the Ducks before signing day takes place in December. This will be one to keep an eye on. Contact/Follow @Ducks_Wire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oregon Ducks news, notes, and opinions.

Former MSU football linebacker returns from major injury for the Philadelphia Eagles
Former MSU football linebacker returns from major injury for the Philadelphia Eagles Ben VanSumeren made waves in his collegiate career transferring from Michigan to Michigan State, and although his collegiate career did not go as expected, VanSumeren has still found himself playing at the next level. After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, VanSumeren was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he has spent the first two years of his career. In those two years he has played in 20 games, making two starts, and recording 16 tackles. Midway through the 2024 year, VanSumeren was making the transition from defense to offense, lining up as a fullback in Nick Sirianni's offense. Unfortunately, a torn ACL in November took away the rest of VanSumeren's season, and he was forced to watch the Eagles win the Super Bowl from the sidelines. Now, after a long road of recovering, VanSumeren is back and is gearing up for his full-time return to the field in 2025, participating in the team's offseason training activities. Look for the former Spartan to do big things in his return on the offensive side of the field in his professional career. Florida basketball ranked inside the top five in The Athletic's Top 25 reset rankings
Florida basketball ranked inside the top five in The Athletic's Top 25 reset rankings The Florida Gators men's basketball team has earned a No. 5 ranking in The Athletic's updated preseason top 25, following the dust settling on the transfer portal and NBA draft decisions. In his "Top 25 Reset", college basketball analyst CJ Moore praised the Gators' size, depth and incoming transfers as key reasons for their rise. Florida's frontcourt, featuring Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu, was highlighted as a potential matchup nightmare. Also, the Gators added two major transfers in guards Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee. Head coach Todd Golden's ability to reload after a national championship run was also commended. Moore emphasized the Gators' up-tempo offensive style and potential for further growth from players like Haugh and Condon as central to Florida's championship hopes. The Gators are the highest-ranked SEC program in the rankings, ahead of teams like the Kentucky Wildcats (No. 9) and Auburn Tigers (No. 10). Here is everything Moore wrote about Florida basketball and why he ranked them at No. 5. What The Athletic said about Florida "Big is back: Last season's best teams had positional size and elite paint protection. Florida could play a giant lineup that features Thomas Haugh (6-9), Alex Condon (6-11) and Rueben Chinyelu (6-10) up front. Those three played together only three possessions last season, per CBB Analytics, but it'll be hard to justify bringing one of them off the bench, considering Haugh's performance in the NCAA Tournament and the inexperience of the other wing options. That big lineup could also help mask some defensive limitations of Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee. "Florida's up-tempo style should help Fland prove he can be a more efficient player than he was under John Calipari. The Gators will contend for another title if Fland and Lee are productive and if Haugh and Condon continue to gain confidence in their playmaking and scoring abilities. They'll be expected to perform more like stars and take some of the heat off perimeter guys who cannot be expected to replicate the production of Walter Clayton." The Athletic's top five college basketball teams The Athletic ranked the Purdue Boilermakers as the top team in the country, followed by the Houston Cougars, UConn Huskies, Michigan Wolverines and Florida Gators to round out the top five.
