17 killed in Gujarat fireworks factory blast, rescue operations continue
A devastating explosion at a fireworks factory in the Indian state of Gujarat has claimed the lives of 17 workers. The incident occurred in the town of Disa, where the factory and warehouse caught fire following a blast.
Local authorities reported that the fire quickly spread, leading to widespread chaos.
According to District Collector Meher Patel, the explosion occurred at Deepak Traders, a fireworks facility. The blast was so intense that parts of the building collapsed, hindering rescue operations.
Local fire teams from the Disa Municipality, alongside 108 ambulance units, rushed to the site to carry out the rescue effort.
Initial reports suggested that six people had died, but the death toll tragically increased as firefighters were able to control the blaze and search through the rubble.
The fire was believed to have been caused by a boiler explosion, with the intensity of the blast and subsequent fire damaging the structure of the building severely.
Authorities confirmed that the fire has been brought under control, but cooling operations are still ongoing as rescue teams continue to search for any survivors beneath the debris.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway, with authorities working to ensure the safety of workers in such high-risk environments.

Publicis sues India antitrust body for denying case files in ad agencies probe
NEW DELHI: Publicis has sued India's antitrust watchdog for denying access to case files in a high-profile price-fixing investigation of ad agencies, after the French group failed to get the probe stalled until it could review the documents, court filings show. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) shook India's near-$30 billion media and entertainment sector in March with dawn raids at WPP's GroupM, Dentsu, Publicis, Omnicom and many other agencies over suspected collusion over publicity rates and discounts. Details of cartel cases are kept confidential in India, but Reuters has reported that the CCI's initial assessment found the firms used a WhatsApp group to coordinate and agree on pricing, entered into secret pacts, and colluded with broadcasters to deny business to agencies that didn't comply. Concerned the CCI has not responded to its requests in recent months to provide access to case files, Publicis approached the Delhi High Court on August 11 asking judges to order the watchdog to accede to its requests, according to its non-public filing reviewed by Reuters on Thursday. Publicis and its employees in India are 'unable to understand the allegations against them and prepare a defence in the absence of the case records', it said in the filing. India raids ad giants GroupM, Dentsu and broadcasters' body over price collusion, sources say The CCI did not respond to Reuters queries, and the court is likely to hear Publicis' case next week. The filing was made by TLG India, which its court papers said 'is the legal entity that houses majority of the advertising business of the Publicis group in India'. The antitrust investigation was triggered by Dentsu disclosing alleged industry malpractices to the CCI in February 2024 under the regulator's leniency program, which allows lesser penalties for firms that share evidence of malpractice. Publicis is the first company to file a lawsuit related to the high-profile CCI investigation in court. Filings showed the company urged the CCI in July that 'further investigation remain in abeyance till' it is granted inspection of case records. CCI investigations typically take several months. The regulator has powers to impose financial penalties on the media agencies of up to three times their profit or 10% of an Indian entity's global turnover, whichever is higher, for each year of wrongdoing. Publicis' court filing also showed the CCI in July asked for a brief note from the company about its business model, and how operations are coordinated with the parent entity. On August 4, the CCI issued summons to Publicis' South Asia chief Anupriya Acharya to appear before investigators, and provide documents such as copies of key contracts involving Publicis and its Indian entities, including on revenue sharing. Acharya did not respond to Reuters queries, and Publicis has asked the court to quash the summon.

50 militants killed along Afghan border
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army has killed a total of 50 Indian-sponsored militants in a four-day counterterrorism operation in the Sambaza area of Zhob District, Balochistan. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the latest engagement took place on the night of August 10–11, when security forces conducted a deliberate sanitisation operation in areas surrounding Sambaza, along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. During the operation, three more militants were eliminated, while weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from their possession. These follow-up actions came after earlier successful engagements during August 7–9, in which 47 militants were killed in the same general area. The ISPR reaffirmed that security forces remain committed to defending the country's frontiers and foiling any attempts to undermine peace, stability, and progress in Pakistan. Security forces kill 3 more Indian-sponsored terrorists in Zhob: ISPR
The security forces killed three more Indian-sponsored terrorists in Zhob district along Pakistan-Afghanistan Border, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday. The press release said that on night of August 10 and August 11, a deliberate sanitisation operation was conducted in surrounding areas of Sambaza, Zhob along Pakistan-Afghanistan Border. The military's media wing said weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the khawarij. Since the anti infiltration operation, 50 terrorists have been killed. 'The security forces remain committed to secure the nation's frontiers and thwart attempts at sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Pakistan,' the ISPR said. In May, DG ISPR Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry accused the 'Afghan gentry' of giving refuge to terrorists in lieu of money received from the Indian government. Speaking to over 2,500 students from different universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), who held a special sitting with him, he urged Afghanistan not to play into the hands of India.
