Bhadrachalam temple staff protest over attack on EO

KHAMMAM: Wearing black badges, members of the TNGO Association, temple employees' welfare and retired staff associations and Vedic administrative staff from various temples staged a protest outside Tanisha Kalyana Mandapam on Wednesday, condemning the attack on Bhadrachalam temple Executive Officer (EO) L Ramadevi.
The protestors alleged that EO Ramadevi and her team were assaulted by encroachers from Purushottapatnam village in Yetapaka mandal, Alluri Sitaramaraju district, Andhra Pradesh while attempting to stop illegal constructions on land belonging to the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple.
They demanded legal action against the culprits and measures to stop further encroachments.
VHP state publicity in-charge Pagudakula Balaswamy decried the repeated encroachment of the temple's land, once gifted by a devotee, and recalled previous instances, including a gaushala being blocked. He criticised the AP government's failure to act, despite forming a special committee.
EO Ramadevi, discharged from KIMS Hospital in Bhadrachalam, has left for Hyderabad to seek better care.

UP: 2 girls asked to leave class for applying tika; VHP protests in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad (UP), Aug 13 (PTI) Two students were allegedly turned out of class at a government girls' school in Vijay Nagar here for applying 'tika' on their foreheads, prompting protests by members of a Hindu outfit, officials said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and no complaint has been lodged in the matter so far. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashwani Sharma alleged that the teacher threatened to fail the students if they continued wearing the 'tika'. After the girls, who are class 11 students, informed their parents about the incident, workers of the VHP and other organisations gathered at the school and expressed resentment over the incident. Sharma told PTI that the police were informed and reached the spot to defuse tensions. Vibha Chauhan, the principal of the school, was warned by the protesters to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future. She assured them that religious sentiments would be respected. Following the incident, parents and VHP members recited the Hanuman Chalisa outside the school gate. 'Law and order was maintained, and no legal action has been initiated in this case," ACP Kotwali Ritesh Tripathi said. Tamil lyrisict Vairamuthu's remarks on 'Lord Ram' stokes row, Sangh Parivar lashes out

CHENNAI: Award-winning Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu's recent reported remarks on 'Lord Ram' having "lost" his mind post his separation from Sita has stirred a controversy, with the BJP branding him a "fool." The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) condemned the remarks as "vulgar." The remarks were made at an event in the city recently, where Vairamuthu received an award named after Tamil poet Kamban, and in light of the killing of Vali. With the comments kicking up a row, Vairamuthu took to his social media page, claiming neither Valmiki forgave Lord Ram nor did Vali. The analogy refers to 'Lord Ram' killing Kishkinta King Vali during his duel with brother Sukreeva. To aid Sukreeva, 'Lord Ram' apparently targets Vali from behind, which some interpret as 'hiding' while releasing the arrow at Vali. Talking about this, Vairamuthu said he remarked that neither Valmiki, nor Vali forgave 'Lord Ram' for this incident, "nor was the world ready" to do so.

17th district conference of AIDWA begins in Vizag

The 17th district conference of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) commenced at Maddilapalem on Monday. Tracing the genesis of AIDWA, its State secretary D. Ramadevi said that the association was formed to fight for the cause of women, protection of democratic values and equality of women. AIDWA was formed into a national-level body in 1981, and has been waging struggles for equal rights, against suppression of economic, social and political rights of women. She said that AIDWA had always stood with women against social evils such as dowry, fought for bringing laws against domestic violence and harassment and crimes against women. It had stood by women for decades in their fight for bringing the Women's Reservation Bill. It has been running legal aid centres to check the disintegration of families. In the name of upholding tradition, women were being subjected to discrimination. Ms. Ramadevi said that though literacy has increased among women, cases of dowry and domestic violence are continuing unabated. She called for the economic empowerment of women. She alleged that though laws were made for the protection of women, they were being diluted by the male-dominated legal, police and political systems. AIDWA State president B. Prabhavathi, district secretary Y. Satyavathi also spoke. AIDWA senior leader V. Laskhmi, district president B. Padma and vice president R, Vimala were among those who participated in the programme.
