Japanese car giant Nissan revealed today that they will be cutting 11,000 roles worldwide, according to a report by Japanese broadcaster NHK - just months after the brand had already announced plans to cut around 9,000 jobs

The now nearly 20,000 job cuts come as the marque is reported to be facing intense competition and struggles in the car market.
Last year, Nissan revealed a 70 per cent fall in profits when it warned of potential reduction in jobs and production rates.
This includes some 6,000 job losses at Nissan's plant in Sunderland, with a total 15 per cent of its entire workforce expected to be hit.
The company is still looking for a new industrial partner since scaling back its alliance with France's Renault, as well as aborting an attempted merger with Japanese rival Honda back in February.

Nissan has refused to comment on the report so far, and a spokesperson from the car manufacturer's UK business has been unable to immediately confirm claims.
Its suffering has been linked to collapsing market share in China, where its cars were previously lucrative.
Sales have more than halved there in the past four years.
In addition, Nissan and other Japanese rivals have been slow to develop electric models of their vehicles, causing them to fall behind their Chinese counterparts like BYD, Chery, and Geely.

'They are not aligned with what consumers are buying nowadays.'
Nissan has subsequently been underperforming in every market it has operated in, as Chinese competitors have started to encroach on its sales in regions like South East Asia.

The company is expected to confirm its losses for the 2024-25 financial year on Tuesday.

Advertisement Their warning stems from pedestrians walking on the motorway or vehicles stopping to drop off or pick up passengers - which is illegal and highly dangerous. Offenders who are caught doing this may be fined, with those arriving by car instructed to use designated collection points which are clearly marked off the motorway. To this end, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys to avoid congestion, while also following dedicated event signs - rather than relying on sat nav systems which may lead them onto unsuitable roads. For the event, extra police and National Highways traffic officers will be stationed near junction 11 of the M56 to manage traffic and ensure safety. Advertisement Car parks for the festival site will open at midday on Thursday and close at 2 pm on Monday. Traffic from the north, south and east are urged to use junction 11 of the M56, while traffic from the west should use junction 12. Congestion hotspots include junctions 10, 11 and 12 of the M56 and the M56/M6 interchange at Lymm are expected to be particularly busy. Electronic motorway signs will be used to provide real-time updates on congestion and incidents. Creamfields, which runs from Thursday at 2 pm to Sunday at 11 pm, will have an expected 70,000 attendees. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys, while on-site parking is included for ticketholders - with routes to car parks clearly signposted. Helpfully, a dedicated festival bus will run from Leeds railway station to the site from Wednesday to Monday, with tickets available online. As with Creamfields, National Highways will have extra traffic officers on duty and electronic signs will provide updates on incidents and congestion.

In the construction sector, a craftsperson will now see their pay hiked to €23 per hour, which kicked in August 1. A Category A worker will see their pay rise to €22.32 per hour and a Category B worker will now get €20.71 per hour. New Entrant Operative Workers will see their hourly rate go from €16.19 to €16.74. Around 16,000 security guards will have already seen the boost in their wages, which kicked in last month. 'PAID PROPORTIONATELY' Mr Kenny stressed the aim is to ensure these workers are 'paid proportionately' for the vital services they provide. 'Our members believe that this has yet to be fully recognised in their renumeration.'
