Kg Batu Balak upgrades completed under Madani village initiative
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar announced the RM2.5 million upgrades, which include enhanced safety features for the Sungai Kenerak bridge.
A tube well and water distribution system were installed to address the village's long-standing clean water shortages.
The 6.9-kilometre Jalan Kampung Batu Balak was upgraded to improve accessibility for residents and neighbouring communities.
A new surau was also constructed to serve the religious needs of the local population.
Shamsul Azri praised the residents for their cooperation with the Village Development and Security Committee in realising these projects.
He expressed personal attachment to Kampung Batu Balak as his first adopted village under the initiative, with Jeransang near Lipis next in line.
The projects were delivered through collaboration between UKAS, the Jerantut District Office, and the Pahang State Development Office.
Kampung Batu Balak JPKK chairman Mohd Johari Umar noted over 100 residents from 40 households benefited from the upgrades.
He highlighted how the tube well now provides reliable clean water, replacing dependence on hill sources.
The improved road network has significantly eased travel for villagers and nearby communities.
The initiative reflects the Madani government's commitment to uplifting rural areas with critical infrastructure. - Bernama

Indonesia to begin building Nusantara's legislative and judicial zones in October
NUSANTARA, Aug 16 — The Indonesian government has announced a plan to commence the construction of legislative and judicial zones in new capital Nusantara in October this year, marking the next phase in the relocation of the country's seat of government from Jakarta. Development of the two zones is part of the second phase of construction in Nusantara, a project aimed at reducing pressure on overcrowded and sinking Jakarta. Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono said preparations for the two zones, located in the core government area (KIPP), have been completed. 'Construction will start between the end of October and early November this year,' hesaid during a visit to North Penajam Paser District in East Kalimantan, where the new capital city is being developed. The KIPP already includes the presidential palace and ministerial offices, construction of which began in 2022. The new zones will house the legislature and judiciary, key to the full relocation of government functions from Jakarta. The eastern section of the KIPP will be designated for the House of Representatives (DPR), the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD). The western side will be allocated for the Supreme Court (MA) and other judicial institutions, Basuki said. The Public Works Ministry has allocated 8.1 trillion rupiah (US$520 million) for the development. Of that, 2.9 trillion rupiah has been earmarked for road access to the zones, with contracts awarded this month. Construction is expected to take 660 days. Basuki stressed that the legislative and judicial facilities are critical to the official transfer of the capital. After energy, India now eyes self-reliance in fertilisers, reducing import dependence
New Delhi [India], August 16 (ANI): Similar to the country's resolve for energy independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need for India to achieve self-reliance in the fertilisers sector, while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort this Independence Day. The Prime Minister observed that, at present, India remains dependent on imports for a significant portion of its fertiliser requirements. He urged the farming community to adopt judicious and scientific use of fertilisers to protect the health of the soil, cautioning against indiscriminate usage that causes long-term damage to 'Mother Earth'. Calling upon the youth, the industrial sector, and the private sector, the Prime Minister exhorted the nation to unite in efforts to build ample domestic reserves of fertilisers. He encouraged the discovery and development of innovative methods to meet the country's requirements through indigenous production. 'Just like we are dependent on the world for energy, it is the misfortune of the country that we have to depend on the world for fertilisers as well. The farmers of my country can also serve Mother Earth by using fertilisers properly. We are causing a lot of harm to Mother Earth by using it indiscriminately. But at the same time, I want to tell the youth of the country, the industry of the country, the private sector of the country, let us fill the reserves of fertilizers, let us find new ways and prepare our own fertilisers as per the requirement of India, let us not depend on others,' PM Modi said from the Red Fort. 'The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to work in close coordination with industry stakeholders, research institutions, and state governments to bolster domestic capacity, promote sustainable farming practices, and reduce import dependency,' the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said in a statement. Over the last decade, India's fertiliser industry has seen steady growth. The total fertiliser production has increased from 385.39 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) in 2014-15 to 503.35LMT in 2023-24. Over the past six years, six new urea plants have become operational across the country. India's total annual consumption of fertiliser in 2023-24 was around 601 LMT. About 503 LMT was produced domestically in India, while 177 LMT came through imports. (ANI)

Anwar says up to RM5b recovered from corruption cases as govt steps up reforms
IPOH, 16 August — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that the government has recovered up to RM5 billion in assets and funds seized from corruption cases over the past year alone. He said the seizures were from various government ministries and departments, such as Immigration and Customs, as well as from politicians. 'Some people mock or criticise the anti-corruption drive. But let me tell you, over the past year alone, we have recovered between RM4 billion and RM5 billion in assets and funds. 'That shows the seriousness of our efforts to clean up governance. All of this, however, can only be achieved with good governance,' he said in his speech during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Ipoh Sentral Development Project located opposite the Ipoh Railway Station here. The prime minister said Malaysia cannot advance in dignity and status if it continues to follow outdated practices such as rewarding high commissions and or offering additional building floors in exchange for major projects. 'This must be stopped. Regulations must be clear across all sectors,' he said. Referring to the 13th Malaysia Plan, Anwar said its foundation lies in strengthening growth and ensuring inclusivity. 'When we say 'raise the ceiling', it means the economy must expand. Growth must be faster, investments stronger, agriculture developed, all sectors strengthened. 'But when the ceiling rises, the floor must also rise, meaning people's livelihoods must improve. Salaries must go up,' he said. Anwar reiterated that the government has allocated an additional RM10 billion this year and RM18 billion next year to reform the public service under the Public Service Remuneration Scheme. He said such measures were taken to ensure basic needs were met. 'Because we cannot expect police officers, for example, to work long hours while their housing remains neglected. Tiny houses built 50 or 60 years ago. These things must change. That's what raising the floor means,' he said. On wages, he said the government has been making gradual increases as a 'step-up', adding that government-linked companies have already set a higher floor of RM3,100. 'Is RM1,700 enough? No, but we increased it gradually,' he said.
