Premier League top scorer odds: City hotshot leads the way

Telegraph2 days ago
Mohamed Salah comfortably secured his fourth Premier League Golden Boot with 29 goals last term but the 2025-26 leading goalscorer odds suggest he will be up against it to repeat the feat.

Since Manchester City hitman Erling Haaland broke the record for netting the most in the domestic top flight in a season in his maiden campaign in 2022-23, the leading goalscorer market has had a predictable feel to it.
The Norwegian topped the chart in 2023-24 as well – but then Liverpool ace Salah showed last term that others can best the Light Blues giant.
This is a market that could well change a lot before the start of the season, with a handful of top clubs targeting strikers in the transfer window, so punters should have their wits about them when eyeing up a wager on the 2025-26 top goalscorer.

Premier League top goalscorer 2025-26 contenders analysed
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
The Norwegian's odds of evens give him an implied probability of 50 per cent to be the Premier League's top goalscorer next season – and some will argue that he should be odds-on, with Salah expected to wane (more on that shortly).
And while Pep Guardiola's side should improve on their 2024-25 performance and their new creative additions should aid Haaland, there are surely too many factors to consider – most notably injury – to back any player at such a short price.

Looking for another way to get behind Haaland next season? Check out our expert analysis of his total goals market with bet365
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
The Egypt superstar's figures of 29 goals and 18 assists in last season's Premier League were outstanding, but it is hard to see him getting anywhere near that scoring tally in 2025-26.
He stayed completely free of injuries last term, meaning he played all 38 league matches, and nine of his goals came from the penalty spot.
Salah will start this season aged 33 and, with the Africa Cup of Nations set to reduce his club appearance total midway through the domestic campaign, he should be swerved at 4/1.
Find out why we think the 2025-26 season could be Salah's worst in a Liverpool shirt
Premier League top goalscorer odds @ 4/1 with bet365
Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)
There is not a huge amount of value in this market but Isak at 7/1 could be a smart pick.
The Swede was sandwiched between Salah and Haaland in the top goalscorer rankings last term, netting 23 goals in 34 appearances – with 19 of those strikes coming from open play.
The 25-year-old is arguably yet to hit his prime and should benefit from the addition of winger Anthony Elanga should he stay at St James' Park.
The Magpies are in a good position to retain his services, but if Isak does depart for Liverpool his odds will surely shorten. So now could be the time to get behind him.
Premier League top goalscorer odds @ 7/1 with bet365
Joao Pedro (Chelsea)
Former Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro excelled in his two appearances for the Blues over the summer, scoring three goals across matches against Fluminense and PSG.
Those performances are likely to have played a part in him being among the first five in the top goalscorer market, but his versatility means he may not always be deployed as a striker. He scored just 19 goals across the past two seasons for the Seagulls – not the most prolific return.
Cole Palmer (Chelsea)
If punters are going to back a Stamford Bridge employee at 16/1 in the top goalscorer market, Cole Palmer is a smarter selection than Pedro.
The Englishman was excellent against PSG and netted 22 times in the Premier League in 33 appearances in his first season with the Blues.
He was off the pace with just 15 strikes last term, but this Chelsea side are improving under Enzo Maresca – and if Palmer continues on penalty duty, he should have a better chance than his implied probability of just 5.9 per cent suggests.
Premier League top goalscorer odds @ 16/1 with bet365
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
While Ollie Watkins could look big at 25/1 to some punters, all things considered his price looks right.
The Aston Villa marksman played in every Premier League game last term and scored 16 goals, three fewer than in 2023-24.
The West Midlanders have been pretty quiet on the transfer front this summer and the loss of Marco Asensio, whose loan spell from PSG has ended, makes them less of a threat going forwards.
Matheus Cunha (Manchester United)
Backing a Red Devils player in the top goalscorer market may seem laughable given the club finished 15th in the 2024-25 Premier League, but there are worse bets than Matheus Cunha at 33/1.
The Brazilian bagged 15 goals for Wolves last season and should theoretically get better service at United with Bruno Fernandes behind him.
Cunha ranked second for shots-per-90-minutes in the previous top-flight campaign with 3.81, and could be in for a decent 2025-26 if he improves his temperament.
Premier League top goalscorer odds @ 33/1 with bet365
Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
There is no doubt that Bukayo Saka is one of the best players in the Premier League and he should thrive again this season at Arsenal.
But the Gunners look set to sign a top-class striker this summer, which should ease the goalscoring burden on Saka, who is more of a creative outlet anyway with 10 assists in the league last term.
Premier League top goalscorer odds @ 33/1 with bet365
Find out why we think Arsenal can finally land the Premier League title under Mikel Arteta
Dominic Solanke (Tottenham Hotspur)
It is anyone's guess how Spurs will perform in the coming season.
The north Londoners finished 17th in the standings last term, but won the Europa League and are now under the stewardship of Thomas Frank, who is known for improving players.
It will be particularly interesting to see what he gets out of striker Dominic Solanke, although going from just nine goals in 27 appearances last term to being Premier League top scorer this season feels like a bit of a stretch.
Premier League top goalscorer odds @ 33/1 with bet365
Top goalscorer outsiders
Of the outsiders in the Premier League top goalscorer betting, Liam Delap and Omar Marmoush could both make each-way appeal at 40/1 with bet365 paying four places.
Marmoush scored seven goals in 16 appearances for Manchester City after arriving in January last season and averaged 3.75 shots per game, although the Egyptian's expected involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations is a minus factor.
Delap, meanwhile, could be the focal point of Chelsea's attack if Pedro is fancied more as a wide player and Nicolas Jackson keeps getting suspended, and a haul of 12 goals for the relegated Ipswich Town last term was a good effort.
The current Brentford pair Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa will also have their backers at 50/1, with moves to bigger clubs on the radar this summer.
