'Throughout his illustrious career, Dick Barnett embodied everything it meant to be a New York Knick, both on and off the court,' the Knicks said in a statement. 'He left a positive impact on everyone he encountered and this organization is incredibly fortunate to have him be such an integral part of its history. His jersey will forever hang in the rafters of Madison Square Garden, and his play throughout his career will forever be a part of Knicks fans memories.'
Barnett played on the Knicks' title teams in 1970 and 1973 and reached the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and as a member of his college teams at Tennessee A&I (later Tennessee State), the first HBCU to win a national championship in basketball.
A native of Gary, Indiana, Barnett went on to star for the Tennessee A&I teams that made up one of college basketball's first dynasties. The Tigers won three straight NAIA championships starting in 1957, with Barnett being chosen an All-American each season and twice being selected the MVP of the NAIA Tournament.
He was taken by the Syracuse Nationals with the No. 5 pick in the 1959 draft and also played for the Los Angeles Lakers before coming to the Knicks in 1965. He spent nine years with the Knicks, averaging 15.6 points and playing on their championship teams in 1970 and 1973.
Barnett is ninth on the Knicks' career scoring list and his No. 12 jersey was retired in 1990.
Barnett led a long quest for recognition for his college team. The Tigers were eventually enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2019, represented on stage by Barnett, and in 2024 visited the White House to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Barnett, who was selected for one NBA All-Star Game, was inducted in the Hall of Fame as a player in 2024.

Entering his college career with the Duke Blue Devils, Flagg was already being talked about as the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft. He lived up to all of the hype and expectations that came with his move to Duke. Throughout his one season with the Blue Devils, Flagg averaged 19.2 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from three-point range. He produced those numbers across 37 games played and led Duke to the Final Four. As for his skill-set, Flagg is a very unique player. Jason Kidd and the Mavericks expect to utilize him some at the point guard position. Flagg stands in at 6-foot-9 and 205 pounds. Chicago Cubs increasing season ticket prices for 2026 by an average of 6%
The Chicago Cubs' return to contention in 2025 has made home games a hot ticket at Wrigley Field, and to no one's surprise, the team's success on the field means another sizable ticket price increase in 2026. Season tickets for Cubs games will go up from 5-8%, the team announced Thursday in its renewal letter to season ticket holders, with an average increase of 6%. Meanwhile, season ticket holders who renew through 2028 will be guaranteed tickets to the 2027 All-Star Game, Home Run Derby and all other All-Star events at Wrigley, with a maximum ticket increase of 3% in 2027 and 2028. Cale Vennum, senior vice president of Marquee Sports & Entertainment, said the All-Star Game is a 'once in a lifetime event' where demand will likely make it difficult to get in without the guarantee of a season ticket package. 'I would imagine there would be very, very limited tickets available on a single game basis,' he said. 'The demand for this game, we expect it to be through the roof.' Those who don't renew for the entire three years and prefer to go year-to-year might have access to the All-Star Game and events, Vennum said, but there aren't any guarantees. MLB controls most of the tickets for big events and Wrigley is one of the smaller venues. If the 2027 All-Star Game is postponed due to a labor stoppage, the game played on the North Side would likely be delayed until 2029, sources said. 'If for any reason the games need to be rescheduled for a later year, we would honor our commitment to the season ticket holders,' Vennum added. The Cubs already have among the priciest tickets in baseball and demand has surged this season with a team that spent nearly four months in first place until being passed by the Milwaukee Brewers. They began Thursday ranked sixth in average attendance at 37,479 per game. Bleacher tickets for 2026 will likely be around the highest range of the increase — about 8%. Chicago Cubs fans are 'really excited' for Wrigley Field's 2027 All-Star Game. But how much will tickets cost?'The bleachers have been sold out for almost every game this season,' Vennum said. 'It's certainly been the place to be.' A postseason ticket renewal means paying for tickets for all possible home games, with the option of refunds or a credit toward next year for any games not played. The deadline to place a deposit for postseason tickets is Sept. 17. The Cubs are still in good position for a wild-card spot with a 99% chance, according to If the Cubs finish as the top wild-card team, they would host all the first-round wild-card games in a best-of-three series. If they are the second or third wild-card team, they would play their first-round games on the road and have to hope to get to the best-of-five division series.

Cubs OF Kyle Tucker played with a small fracture in his right hand after he got hurt in June
CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker played with a small fracture in his right hand after he got hurt in June, and manager Craig Counsell said that might have contributed to his trouble at the plate. Speaking after a 4-3 victory over Milwaukee, Counsell confirmed a report that detailed the extent of Tucker's injury. The All-Star slugger jammed his right ring finger during an awkward slide in a victory over Cincinnati on June 1. Initial X-rays were negative. He missed one game and then made a pinch-hitting appearance before returning to the starting lineup on June 5. 'He was sore for a little while, but was able to play,' Counsell said. 'We did some more imaging, and it showed a small fracture that was healing, and, you know, that's it. Is it possible that this has caused kind of like, playing through it, changed some things? Yeah, absolutely. I think it's probably likely that at some point that happened. But he wanted to play.' Counsell said Tucker hasn't had any more imaging since the fracture was found, and it has healed by this point. '(It) hasn't been an issue,' Counsell said. The 28-year-old Tucker hasn't played since he went 0 for 4 in a 7-0 loss to Milwaukee. He has been getting some time off in hopes of helping him break out of his prolonged slump, but he could return to the lineup as soon as the series finale against the Brewers. Tucker has brushed off any questions about his health amid his offensive slump. 'I'm fine,' he said. 'I mean, I've played, you know, for the most part every game this year. So I'm fine going out there.' Tucker was acquired in a December trade with Houston. He is eligible for free agency after this season. He got off to a terrific start this year, batting .290 with 17 homers, 52 RBIs and a .923 OPS in his first 85 games. He made the All-Star Game for the fourth time. But he hasn't been the same player since the break. He is batting .148 (8 for 54) in August, and he has just two extra-base hits — both doubles — in his last 24 games. 'The fact that he's going through that and he's trying to grind for us and get it any way he can to put himself in a good position to play, I mean that just kind of shows you the type of guy is, and the kind of teammate he is,' rookie third baseman Matt Shaw said. 'And I think for all of us, that helps motivate us as a team.'
