Kerala Finance Minister files police complaint against Facebook page over ‘fake' Rs 1.91 lakh hospital bill claim
Terming the social media post as "misleading", "completely untrue" and a "conspiracy of evil minds", Balagopal said that he had undergone an angioplasty and a stent was inserted following a heart ailment and was in the hospital from May 12, 2024 to May 17, 2024, when he was discharged.
"However, a completely misleading and untruthful campaign was being carried out through UDF-Sangh Parivar social media handles and YouTube channels regarding the reimbursement of the medical expenses incurred by him for the treatment.
"The amount charged by the medical college is the cost of an angioplasty at any government hospital for a person in the APL category," the minister said in a Facebook post on Friday.
He also questioned whether it was wrong of him to opt for the relatively inexpensive treatment at a government hospital when he was eligible for undergoing the same procedure at a private hospital where it would be much more costly.
The minister said that instead of highlighting the positive aspect that there was effective treatment for heart ailments in government hospitals and that people like him trust and rely on it, a false propaganda was being carried out against him for over a year.
Balagopal said that while he had been ignoring the false propaganda for over a year, he decided to take legal action against the persons spreading it as he noticed that the public was believing the falsehood.

Army jawan held for 2020 Vapi double murder
Surat: Sleuths of the Valsad local crime branch on Monday arrested an Army jawan, Pankaj Kumar Shah (34), for his alleged involvement in the Jan 2020 double murder at Chanod Colony in Vapi town of Valsad district. Shah allegedly shot two women dead with a pistol, at the home of one of them, as part of a Rs 2.5 lakh contract killing deal. Police had earlier arrested Bipin Mahanto, the son of one of the victims, his friend Kundan Giri, and Shah's accomplice, Mukesh Singh. Shah had been on the run ever since the crime and kept moving about, investigators said. He was finally caught at a hotel near Cheethwari in Rajasthan. Police said he kept moving between Greater Noida and Rajasthan. On Jan 11, 2020, a brutal double murder unfolded. Rekha Brahmdev Mahanto and her friend Anita alias Durga Shekhar Khadse were fatally shot by assailants on a red motorcycle without a registration number. The investigation revealed a conspiracy allegedly orchestrated by Bipin Mahanto, Rekha's own son. Suspecting that his mother was having an extramarital affair, Bipin allegedly plotted her murder. Shah first scouted around in Vapi in 2019 before returning to execute the killing. Shah roped in Singh, a resident of Bihar, to help in the crime. In Jan 2020, they came to Vapi, where Bipin Mahanto arranged a motorcycle for them. On the day of the killing, Giri, Shah and Singh went to the spot on a motorcycle. Giri got off at KBS Colony and kept watch. Shah and Singh proceeded to Mahanto's residence, where Singh waited outside while Shah went in with a pistol. Shah shot Mahanto and when Khadse emerged on hearing the gunshots, he shot her as well. The trio fled the scene on the motorcycle. The other three accused had been caught earlier while Shah remained at large. The investigation revealed that Shah was posted as a craftsman with 119 FWC 135 Brigade at Manjakote in Jammu and Kashmir. He has been a working member of the 606 Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (EME) battalion based in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, for 15 years.

Stalin advised rest for three days
M K Stalin CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin was on Monday admitted to Apollo Hospitals on Greams Road here after he complained of discomfort. He has been advised rest for three days and prescribed a few other tests for evaluation, said a release from Dr Anil B G, hospital director of medical services. 'Stalin is expected to continue discharging his duties in his official capacity from the hospital during his stay,' said the release sent by Dr Anil at 9pm. Earlier, deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said his father was hospitalised after he complained of giddiness. 'He will undergo some medical tests and return home in a couple of days,' Udhayanidhi said, adding that doctors have advised Stalin rest. Two caught with 28kg of gold paste at Surat airport
Surat: The Central Industrial Security Force ( CISF ) thwarted a gold smuggling attempt at the Surat international airport on Sunday and seized 28kg of gold paste, which two passengers from Dubai had allegedly concealed on their bodies. The paste is estimated to contain 23kg of gold, worth about Rs 23 lakh. The customs department is yet to declare the exact amount of gold recovered and its value. After the arrival of Air India Flight IX-174 from Dubai, a CISF soldier monitoring the international arrivals area got suspicious of two passengers who had disembarked at about 10pm. Their unusual behaviour prompted the CISF vigilance team to conduct a thorough examination of their belongings. Working with customs officers, the CISF team discovered the gold paste, ingeniously concealed on the bodies of the two individuals. The gold paste method is commonly used by smugglers to evade detection. Customs officials launched an investigation to uncover the broader network behind this smuggling attempt. The identities of the passengers have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing. The accused will likely be produced in court on Tuesday. The process to recover the gold from the paste is underway.
