Jordan: Farmers in Irbid receive over $2.8mln in agricultural loans — official
AMMAN — The Irbid branch of the Agricultural Credit Corporation has begun providing interest-free loans to livestock breeders, including those raising sheep, cattle, and camels, according to the branch director, Malik Akour.
Akour said the programme, which began at the start of 2025, also includes agricultural loans for farmers and rural families across the villages and districts of Irbid Governorate. 'So far, around 136 farmers have benefited from the loans,' the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
As of June 24, the total value of loans disbursed by the branch reached JD 2,061,444, distributed across several categories. Interest-free loans to livestock breeders amounted to JD 325,000, benefiting 90 recipients, he said.
He also said that loans worth JD325,000 were allocated to support women's empowerment and rural family projects aimed at combating poverty and unemployment, with 10 borrowers benefiting. Rural financing projects received JD203,000, supporting 55 borrowers, while JD1,185,000 was directed toward land reclamation, livestock development, and food processing projects, aiding 200 farmers.
Akour emphasised the corporation's role in supporting the sustainability of the agricultural sector this year, particularly amid a delayed rainy season and low rainfall. 'The interest-free loans have helped ensure the availability of livestock feed, compensating for the shortage of natural grazing lands this season. Additionally, agricultural and food processing projects have been funded with highly subsidised interest rates.'

Dubai approves new reforms: How they impact education, eco standards

Read- The approvals came during a meeting of The Executive Council held at Emirates Towers, attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Making Dubai a global education hub Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the importance of empowering youth with academic and practical skills, reaffirming Dubai's ambition to be among the world's top 10 cities for students. 'Dubai is home to 37 international university branches, and we plan to attract more,' he said, noting that initiatives will support the Education Strategy 2033 and Dubai Economic Agenda D33. The council approved a new project led by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) to attract world-class universities. The plan targets 70 higher education institutions by 2033, with international students comprising 50 per cent of enrolments and contributing Dhs5.6bn to the emirate's GDP. New career guidance policy for students A new Academic and Career Guidance Policy was also approved, aimed at supporting students in transitioning from education to employment. Nigeria and Brazil have signed a $1bn agreement focused on strengthening agriculture and food security in Nigeria. The partnership will deploy mechanised farming equipment, training programmes, and service centres to help transform Nigeria's largely subsistence agricultural sector. Shettima told his Brazilian counterpart that reforms embarked upon by President Bola Tinubu have helped reshape Nigeria's economy. Nigeria is targeting a $1t economy by 2030, with reforms to agriculture, energy, education, and public finance. The country has also asked banks to recapitalise to attract foreign investments.
