James Cameron struggling to write 'new Terminator film' over stark sci-fi fears

Metroa day ago
James Cameron has revealed that he is having a 'hard time' writing the new Terminator movie because of 'stark' real-world events.
The iconic director is behind some of the biggest movies in history, including Avatar, Titanic, Aliens and the Terminator franchise.
However, during an appearance on CNN, the 70-year-old explained that he is currently penning 'a new Terminator story', but found himself struggling when it comes to the technology aspect of the plot.
'I'm at a point right now where I have a hard time writing science fiction,' he declared.
'I'm tasked with writing a new Terminator story. I've been unable to get started on that very far, because I don't know what to say that won't get overtaken by real events.
'We are living in a science fiction age right now, and the only way out is through, by using our intelligence, by using our curiosity, by using our command of technology, but also by really understanding the stark probabilities that we face.'
The Terminator first hit the screen in 1984, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular cyborg assassin, sent from the future to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), stopping her from giving birth to the man who would go on to save humankind.
The film currently commands an impressive 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and has gone down as one of the best movies of all time.
There were a further five movies in the franchise – Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation, Terminator Genisys, and Terminator: Dark Fate.
In 2022, James revealed that there had been 'discussions' about a possible seventh film, and suggested that the plot would focus less on the rogue robots.
'If I were to do another Terminator film and maybe try to launch that franchise again, which is in discussion, but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy,' he announced on the Smartless podcast.
He directed and co-wrote the first two instalments in the franchise, but took a back seat on the other movies before returning to co-write and produce 2019's Dark Fate.
However, the flick – which saw the return of Arnie and Linda – bombed at the box office and didn't go down well with fans.
Unpacking the reception in a candid interview with Deadline in 2022, the filmmaker said: 'I'm actually reasonably happy with the film.
'I think what happened is I think the movie could have survived having Linda in it, I think it could have survived having Arnold in it. More Trending
'But when you put Linda and Arnold in it and then, you know, she's 60-something, he's 70-something, all of a sudden it wasn't your Terminator movie, it wasn't even your dad's Terminator movie, it was your granddad's Terminator movie.
'And we didn't see that. We loved it, we thought it was cool, you know, that we were making this sort of direct sequel to a movie that came out in 1991. And young moviegoing audiences weren't born. They wouldn't even have been born for another 10 years.
'So, it was just our own myopia. We got a little high on our own supply, and I think that's the lesson there.'

Timothy Olyphant's life from marriage to college sweetheart to connection to one of America's richest families

TV and film actor Timothy Olyphant has landed his latest role in the critically acclaimed series Alien: Earth Actor Timothy Olyphant has had a fascinating life even before he landed star-making roles in Deadwood and Justified. ‌ He's since scored appearances in major projects such as The Mandalorian, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Daisy Jones & the Six in recent years. ‌ However, his latest performance, in Noah Hawley's terrifying prelude to the Alien franchise, Alien: Earth, could be his most impressive yet. ‌ Olyphant portrays another of the series' infamously creepy androids, Kirsh, alongside a stellar cast including rising star Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis and Babou Ceesay. But what do we know about the actor's life away from the screens? Read on to discover more. Birth and connection to mega-rich family Olyphant was actually born in Honolulu, Hawaii though he and his family moved to Modesto, California when he was two. The star recently revealed he's a descendant of the wealthy Vanderbilt family of New York, and thus also related to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. When probed about the connection by the Hollywood Reporter, he quipped: 'You're goddamn right I am, and somebody owes me money." ‌ His fourth great-grandfather on his father's side was business magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt. However, Olyphant doesn't seem to have inherited much from the family connection and admits he hasn't met his cousin, Cooper. ‌ "It's on my to-do list to head to upstate New York and see if I can get the keys to the house," he added. "I've never met Anderson. I assume that's just because I keep missing the family reunions due to work and the kids. But now that I'm an empty-nester, I hope we'll be having drinks soon." ‌ Marriage to college sweetheart Olyphant not only married his college girlfriend, Alexis Knief, in 1991, but they've stayed together ever since for over three decades. They have also welcomed three children over the years, including daughter Vivan who portrayed his Justified character Raylan Givens's daughter Willa in the sequel miniseries Justified: City Primeval. Alexis has supported her husband's career by raising their family away from the spotlight. ‌ Sharing the secret to their romance's longevity, Olyphant shared to Women's Health in 2011: 'You have to be with the right person, and you both have to be willing to do the work, day in and day out, to make it happen." He has also credited her for keeping him grounded and frequently mentions her sharp sense of humour in interviews. ‌ Other careers Before finding his feet as an actor, Olyphant had a couple of very different careers that could come as a surprise to some fans. After swimming competitively throughout his childhood, he worked as a swimming coach at Irvine Novaquatics. However, he soon decided to move to New York to explore other possibilities, including a brief stint as a stand-up comedian. ‌ Unfortunately, it didn't last long as his off-the-wall material didn't connect with the crowd and he struggled with comics' 'awful' schedules. ‌ 'I'd always heard that you're just going to bomb for a while,' he told Marc Maron on the WTF podcast. 'I felt like I had a couple of shows right out of the gate where I was like, 'This is easy. This is great.' And then the bombing started.' Olyphant has also explored his passion for sport outside of his acting career. From 2006 to 2008, he phone into Joe Escalante's morning radio show in Los Angeles with unconventional sports reports. Director David Lynch was the station's weatherman. He has also competed in a number of celebrity tennis tournaments.

BLACKPINK at London's Wembley Stadium: timings, set list, last-minute tickets and everything you need to know

The world's biggest girl group is about to land in your area. BLACKPINK are about to make their return to the UK as a complete unit for the first time in a couple of years for their Deadline world tour. After taking some time to pursue some solo stuff, the SHUT DOWN singers have reunited in order to play their first ever headlining shows at Wembley. Safe to say their break hasn't slowed them down. Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa will play two nights at London's Wembley stadium this weekend. As always, expect brilliant vocal and dance performances, and a proper show from not just the band, but their backup dancers too. Here's everything you need to know about BLACKPINK's Wembley gigs this weekend. When are BLACKPINK playing Wembley Stadium? The band will take over Wembley for a total of two nights, playing on Friday August 15 and Saturday August 16. What time do doors open? The doors for BLACKPINK will open at 5.30pm. There will be no barricade race here though – pretty much everyone has allocated seats so there's no need to arrive super early to secure a better spot. That is unless you were lucky enough to bag pit tickets. What time will BLACKPINK come on stage? The girls will take to the stage at 8.30pm, three hours after doors open. There is a curfew of 10.30pm, so it will wrap up just before then. What's the seating plan? Here's the seating plan for BLACKPINK's Wembley dates: Who's supporting BLACKPINK at Wembley Stadium? These ladies need no introduction – there's no support act for the Deadline world tour. Setlist The girls tend not to change their setlist too much, although they have switched out a couple of songs since beginning this tour in July. Here's the setlist from a recent concert in Barcelona which will be very similar to what you hear in Wembley: Act 1 Kill This Love Pink Venom How You Like That Playing With Fire Shut Down Act 2 Earthquake Your Love DEADLINE Interlude Thunder FXCK UP THE WORLD Act 3 Pretty Savage Don't Know What to Do Whistle Stay Lovesick Girls Act 4 Handlebars / with the IE (way up) like JENNIE DEADLINE Interlude (ROSÉ) call it the end toxic till the end APT. Act 5 JUMP BOOMBAYAH DDU-DU DDU-DU As If It's Your Last Forever Young Encore JUMP (Reprise) Kick It Can I still get tickets? Luckily, there are still a few tickets to see the girls on both Friday and Saturday available on Ticketmaster here. They are quite limited though, so you'll want to grab them now before they're gone. Bag policy Wembley allows everyone to have one small bag each. Any bags you receive whilst buying merch inside of the stadium will also be allowed, but obviously cannot be brought in from the outside. If you buy merch outside of the stadium it will come in a sealed bag – just ensure you don't break this seal until you're past security. Your personal bag will have to be A4 size or smaller, as is standard at stadiums and arenas across the country. Banned items In order to keep everyone safe and happy, there's a fairly extensive list of stuff you're not allowed to bring to the concert. Some of this is obvious – no blades or explosives please – but some of it might catch you off guard. Here's a list of prohibited items for the gig: Large umbrellas Aluminium and glass drink containers, including perfume bottles Plastic bottles over 500ml Alcohol Food and drink Pushchairs Selfie sticks Weapons and tools Flares, lasers, smoke devices and cannisters Large-bodied cameras and camcorders Drones Unauthorised musical instruments, vuvuzelas or megaphones Weather forecast The weather forecast is looking good. Friday is set to be very warm and sunny, reaching highs of nearly 30C, so if you're planning to queue or get to the stadium early ensure you've got loads of water and suncream to hand. Saturday will be similarly warm, although peaking at 25C and with more cloud coverage. There is very little chance of rain on either day.
