Unlocking inner peace with mental yoga – A path to true well-being
This isn't merely a societal observation; it's a profound human dilemma. Can one truly be a good companion to others, or find genuine fulfilment in relationships, if they cannot even enjoy their own solitude? This critical question echoes through the ages, and its answer, as articulated in ancient wisdom traditions like the Upanishads, points to a fundamental forgetting – a disconnection from our authentic, beautiful selves.
Yogaschittavritti nirodhaha implies that yoga is for the cessation of the vagaries of themind. Sri Krishna in Bhagawad Gita says, Samatvam Yoga Uchyate - equanimity is Yoga. Putting the two together it simply means that choosing the quality of one's thoughts and emotions and remaining equanimous is the path and goal of yoga.
For too long, the popular perception of yoga has been confined to impressive physical postures – the 'asanas'. While these offer undeniable physical benefits, they represent only a fraction of yoga's transformative potential. Today, I want to introduce you to "Mental Yoga" – a powerful, yet often overlooked, dimension of this ancient practice that directly addresses our deepest yearning for mental and emotional well-being.
Mental Yoga, at its core, is the cultivation of a steady and equanimous mind. It's about training our awareness, not just of our breath or our body, but of our internal landscape – our thoughts, emotions, and reactions. Through practices like meditation, we begin to uncover the true nature of our being: eternal, pure, enlightened, liberated, and blemish-free. When we truly comprehend this profound truth, the incessant search for external validation simply ceases. Why would you seek approval from the transient when you are the embodiment of the eternal?
The wisdom traditions speak of "Vedanta Kesaris" – lions among men who have not only understood but experienced this truth. Their characteristics offer a compelling blueprint for mental fortitude: they are fearless, unperturbed by any external stimuli, free from worry, devoid of craving, untouched by hatred, and unswayed by fleeting elation. They embody sthitaprajña – a state of unwavering steadiness.
Imagine a life where circumstances, however challenging, do not dictate your inner state. Where efficiency and clarity in action stem not from anxious striving, but from a profound inner calm. This is the promise of Mental Yoga. It's not about suppressing emotions, but understanding their impermanence and not allowing them to derail your inner peace.
The ultimate joy that arises from this practice is not a fleeting burst of happiness, but a deep, abiding bliss – anando brahmeti vyajanat. It is an oceanic joy, a supreme contentment that, once attained, becomes an inseparable part of your being. This is your birth right.
In a world grappling with a mental health crisis, where anxiety and depression are becoming increasingly prevalent, Mental Yoga offers a potent and accessible solution. It empowers individuals to reclaim their inner sovereignty, to find joy not in external acquisitions, but in the profound realisation of their own inherent nature.
It is time to embrace the profound power of meditation and the complete science of yoga – not just as a physical discipline, but as a holistic path to mental and emotional liberation. This isn't just about feeling better; it's about fundamentally transforming your relationship with yourself and the world, and in doing so, reclaiming the wealth of bliss that is truly yours. Amit Shah shares his 'retirement' plans
Ahmedabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said he will take up natural farming after retiring from public life and devote a considerable amount of time to reading Hindu scriptures, including the Vedas and Upanishads. The Home Minister shared his 'retirement plan' while speaking at the 'Sahkar Samvaad' event in Ahmedabad. Addressing the gathering, the Home Minister gave a sneak peek into his post-retirement life and said that after bowing out from public life, he will dedicate the rest of his life to the Vedas, Upanishads, and natural farming. Natural farming, also called organic farming, is a science-based technique which has immense benefits, he said. The Home Minister said, 'Wheat grown with chemical fertilisers leads to various health issues, including many lifestyle disorders like BP, diabetes, thyroid and life-threatening diseases like cancer.' 'Natural farming not only helps in making the body disease-free but also reduces one's dependence on medicines,' he added. Shah further said that natural farming also enhances agricultural productivity and shared his own experience of recording a 1.5 times jump in agricultural produce at his farmland. Months ago, the Home Minister shared his weight-loss journey and spoke about how his health underwent a big transformation on the back of positive habits, including the right amount of food and water, coupled with exercise and adequate sleep. Speaking on World Liver Day, he said, 'I have achieved a very big change since May 2019 till now. By having the right amount of sleep, pure water, food and exercise, I have achieved much in life. In the last 4.5 years, I have become free from allopathic medicines,' he said. Amit Shah pitches for natural farming, highlights its benefits
The senior BJP leader also said after retirement, he will dedicate rest of his life to ancient Indian scriptures Vedas, Upanishads, and also natural farming. Shah noted that if a person consumes food that is devoid of chemicals and fertilizers, he won't require any medications. Ahmedabad, Jul 9 (PTI) Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has said natural farming is a scientific experiment with numerous benefits, including higher crop yield, and cautioned that growing wheat with chemical fertilisers often leads to multiple health issues. 'I have already made the decision that whenever I will retire, I will dedicate the remainder of my life to the Vedas, Upanishads and natural farming. Natural farming is a scientific experiment with numerous benefits,' said Shah. The Union minister made the remarks during 'Sahkar Samvad', an interaction with women cooperative workers of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in Ahmedabad on the occasion of International Cooperative Year. The video and press release of the interaction, which took place in Science city of Ahmedabad during Shah's Gujarat visit on last Saturday and Sunday, were released on Wednesday. According to him, wheat grown using fertilizers could cause thyroid, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer. 'If you consume food that is devoid of chemicals and fertilizers, you won't require any medications. Crop yield would also increase, which is another benefit of natural farming. My output has improved by 1.5 times after I implemented this farming technique on my own farm,' said Shah. It may be noted that natural farming (NF) is a chemical free farming, involving livestock, integrated natural agriculture methods and diversified crop systems rooted in Indian traditional knowledge. Addressing 'Sahkar Samvad, Shah said the foundation stone of a cooperative university has been laid in Anand district of Gujarat and it will be named after Tribhuvandas Patel, regarded as the father of India's cooperative movement, said a PIB release. He urged milk producing cooperative societies to put Tribhuvandas Patel's picture in their institutions so that people get acquainted with the personality who made women associated with the cooperative sector prosperous in Gujarat. The original idea of preparing young professionals in the cooperative sector was of Tribhuvandas Patel and this university is being established for that purpose, Shah noted. Shah said despite objections from opposition parties, the Centre was firm and named the university after Tribhuvandas Patel in view of his contribution to the key sector. The Minister of Cooperation said the government is bringing a lot of changes in the dairy sector. In the coming time, cooperative dairies will focus on the management of cow dung, health of animals and measures to increase income through cow dung, said the release. Shah said being the Home Minister of the country is a big deal because Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel held the same position after independence, but heading the cooperation department was bigger honour for him. 'But the day I was made the Cooperation Minister, I believe that I got a bigger department than the Home Ministry. This is a ministry that works for the poor, farmers, villages and animals of the country,' said Shah during his interaction. He informed that in the coming days, he will organize 10 such 'chaupals' (gatherings) in three states each and work will be done in the Cooperation Ministry on the basis of suggestions received at these events. During 'Sahkar Samvad', Shah said research is going on to find out medicinal properties of camel milk. 'The Rajasthan and Gujarat governments will soon jointly launch a scheme with an aim to get higher prices for camel milk by highlighting its medicinal properties. When the rate of camel milk increases, it will eventually help in conservation of camel breeds,' Shah emphasised. PTI PJT PD RSY This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
