Senior Hamas Official Osama Hamdan: Gaza Is Worse Than Auschwitz, the Israeli Occupation's Acts Have Surpassed the Holocaust; According to International Law, Israel - Not Hamas - Is Responsible for It

Osama Hamdan of the Hamas political bureau said in interviews on August 5 and 7, 2025, on Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar) that the occupation has turned Gaza into a Nazi concentration camp worse than Auschwitz, and that the genocidal acts perpetrated in the Gaza Strip have surpassed the Holocaust. He said everything the Nazis did seems 'insignificant' compared to what the Israelis are doing in Gaza. Discussing the condition of Israeli hostage Evyatar David, shown in a recent Hamas-released video in an emaciated state forced to dig his own grave, Hamdan claimed that David is better off than thousands of Palestinians. He added that, according to international law, Hamas should not be blamed for the condition of Israeli hostages because if an enemy imposes a siege on captors of its soldiers, what happens to those soldiers is the responsibility of the besieger.

Syrian officials and Druze leaders to meet in Jordan

Shafaq News – Damascus Jordan's capital, Amman, is set to host talks between Syrian officials and Druze leaders from Suwayda province, aiming to ease the ongoing unrest in the southern region, Arab media reported on Sunday. Preparations are underway with US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack coordinating with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, several Arab foreign ministers, and Turkiye's foreign minister. According to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, a US diplomatic source highlighted efforts to secure the attendance of Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri, Suwayda's main Druze religious leader that opposes the current government, along with elders from prominent Druze families and local faction commanders. It is unclear whether Suleiman Abd al-Baqi and Laith al-Ballous, both close to the Syrian government, will attend. Sheikh al-Hajri's participation is also uncertain, while Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Sheibani is not expected to join. Official Syrian representation likely includes Suwayda's internal security chief Ahmed al-Dallati, Daraa's general security chief Shahir Imran, and Suwayda Governor Mustafa al-Bakur. Suwayda, a mainly Druze province in southern Syria, has recently experienced months of protests over economic hardship and political grievances. Clashes between local groups and government forces have left about 1,300 dead.

The clashes, in Sistan and Baluchestan's Saravan border region, took place between security forces and 'armed individuals,' Iran's state IRNA news agency said, citing a police statement. 'One police officer was martyred in the clash, and another was injured and sent to a medical center,' it said, adding that 'police officers killed three of the armed attackers and are pursuing the remaining attackers.' The main Baluchi armed group, Jaish al-Adl, is active in the area, but has not claimed responsibility for the attack. Attacks on Iranian security forces in Sistan and Baluchestan province are frequent. Armed Baluchi groups, primarily Jaish al-Adl, operate in the province that borders Afghanistan and Pakistan. They have waged an insurgency against Tehran and carried out numerous attacks against its forces, especially the IRGC. In July, at least six people were killed and a dozen others were injured when a courthouse in Sistan and Baluchsestan was attacked. The semi-official Tasnim news agency blamed the attack on Jaish al-Adl. Jaish al-Adl was added to the United States list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations in 2019 by the first administration of President Donald Trump. The designation was in response to a deadly attack by the group that killed 27 IRGC members near Sistan and Baluchestan's provincial capital of Zahedan. Baluchis are a mainly Sunni ethnic minority in Iran, living predominantly in the Baluchestan region near the border with Pakistan. The population was active during nationwide protests in September 2022, and hundreds of Baluchis were killed by the IRGC in a heavy crackdown.
