Teen brothers charged with abduction, assault of lorry driver
V. Kirtik Ram, 19, and V. Theshvinram, 18, pleaded not guilty after the two joint charges were read out to them before magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali.
Kirtik, a lorry attendant, and Theshvinram, a p-hailing rider, both wearing face masks, stood side by side near the dock during proceedings and nodded to show they understood the charges.
They claimed trial to the charges of kidnapping with the intent to secretly and wrongfully confine someone and causing injuries on Muhamad Azwar Danish Rosmadi, 21.
The alleged incident occurred at 6.38pm in Jalan Persiaran Puchong Permai, Puchong, on July 22.
The charges under Section 365 and Section 323 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code carry a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, as well as a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Akhilah Rosmi urged the court to set bail of RM8,000 for each charge.
Defence lawyer Noor Farazidah asked the court to set a minimal bail.
She said the brothers are taking care of their 64-year-old grandmother and are supporting their younger siblings.
"The accused are young offenders and voluntarily surrendered to the police.
"Kirtik earns RM1,500 a month as a lorry attendant while Theshvinram, who suffers from shoulder injuries, has unstable income as a p-hailing rider.
"They are innocent until proven guilty, and I ask for them to be given the lowest possible bail," she said.
Redza set bail at RM7,000 with one surety for each accused and set Sept 8 for mention.
Last Friday, their alleged accomplice, lorry driver, P. Nandakumaar, 32, was charged under Section 365 in connection with the same case before Shah Alam court magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman.
He, however, was denied bail.
Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat had said three suspects were arrested in Puchong and Hulu Selangor for their involvement in the abduction.
Police seized clothes and mobile phones to facilitate further investigations.
Wan Azlan said based on preliminary investigations, the motive of the abduction is unpaid debt.
A 40-second video clip of the victim being forcibly shoved into the back of a lorry recorded by a road user has gone viral.
The men were seen assaulting the victim as they pushed him into the lorry.
Acting on a tip-off, a man was arrested and he was found with the victim.

Woman caught with exotic animals in suitcase at KLIA
SEPANG: A 36-year-old Malaysian woman was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for attempting to smuggle several protected exotic animals out of the country. The suspect, from Negri Sembilan, was detained during a routine luggage inspection at KLIA Terminal 1, around 9.10pm yesterday. The inspection, carried out by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MBCA), uncovered nine animals hidden in her baggage. The woman has been handed over to the KLIA police station for further investigation under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 [Act 716] and the International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008 [Act 686]. MBCA said integrated inspections with KLIA Aviation Security will continue to be intensified to curb the smuggling of wildlife through Malaysia's air routes.

Post-mortem today on boy found buried in Jempol
JEMPOL: An autopsy on the child's body found buried near the main Bahau-Rompin road yesterday, is expected to be conducted at Rembau Hospital today, said Jempol police chie, Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar. Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof was reported to have said that the child's body was found at 4.30pm following the arrest of the 36-year-old father by Johor police yesterday. The six-year-old boy was reported missing at Taman Bukit Indah, Iskandar Puteri, Johor earlier on July 24. Norhisham said the suspect, believed to be the father of the child, was still in Johor police custody. "The suspect is believed to have buried the child far from any settlement near the Bahau-Rompin road. "Initial investigations found that the suspect used a hoe to bury the child. "The suspect is expected to be brought to the Jempol police headquarters in a few days. "The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.

Pahang Fisheries Dept condemns turtle abuse at Cherating beach
KUANTAN: The Pahang Fisheries Department has condemned the inhumane treatment of a green sea turtle by three people at the Turtle Conservation and Information Centre in Cherating on July 27. In the 6.45am incident, the adult turtle, believed to have been searching for a nesting site, was reportedly manhandled by the suspects. Pahang Fisheries Department director Roslan Abu Hasan expressed deep regret, saying the department viewed the incident seriously. "We are deeply saddened by the cruel actions of the three individuals. Our officers have conducted investigations at the site and lodged a police report at the Cherating station yesterday (July 28). "Turtles are protected under the Fisheries Act 1985. This incident highlights a disturbing lack of public awareness regarding the importance of preserving endangered marine species," he said in a statement today. Roslan said the department is working closely with the police to track down the suspects, who acted irresponsibly towards the marine animal. He said that under the Fisheries Act 1985, it is illegal to disturb, harass, capture, or destroy a turtle's habitat, and offenders may face a fine of up to RM20,000 upon conviction. Meanwhile, Roslan said monitoring has been intensified at popular turtle nesting sites, including Pulau Tioman, Kuala Rompin, Pantai Cherating, and Tanjung Batu Nenasi in Pekan, to prevent egg poaching. "We urge the public to report any suspicious activity along the beaches to help protect these turtles and ensure they can continue to nest safely during the season," he said. Yesterday, acting Kuantan police chief Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud had said that a 51-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident, which has since gone viral on social media.
