Siemens Healthineers Boosts Manipal Hospice (MHRC) Therapy Block with Major CSR Support
Manipal (Karnataka) [India], July 9: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) proudly acknowledges the generous contribution of Rs. 1 crore from Siemens Healthineers India which funded state-of-the-art Therapy Block at the Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre (MHRC). This vital support will significantly enhance the quality of palliative and rehabilitative care provided to patients and families, reinforcing MAHE's commitment to compassionate healthcare.
The Manipal Hospice and Respite Care was inaugurated in May 2025 by the Hon'ble Justice Shri S Abdul Nazeer, His Excellency the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, and was operational from June 2025.
The Therapy Block at MHRC is a 6,100-square-foot facility, which has been meticulously designed to provide comprehensive rehabilitative and supportive care, featuring dedicated spaces for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, mind-body therapy, speech and swallow therapy, home-based occupational therapy, and counseling. The Therapy Block aims to enhance the comfort, independence, and dignity of patients, addressing their physical, cognitive, and emotional needs.

Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre, a 100-bed facility spread over 12 acres, is the first hospice in India to be affiliated with both a hospital and a university. It is the second largest hospice in India and aims to serve both patients with cancer and non-cancer. This hospice offers respite care as well as end-of-life care for both adults and children.

Ranchi sadar hosp model must be replicated in other dists: Irfan
Ranchi: A day after Ranchi's Sadar hospital topped in the country under the Ayushman Bharat - Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, state health minister Irfan Ansari on Thursday advised other district hospitals to scale up their superspecialty services on the lines of Ranchi Sadar Hospital. Ansari said, "A total of 126 specialist doctors have recently been recruited, and 144 more doctors are expressing interest in joining Sadar hospitals across the districts. Hospitals have been instructed to submit their specific requirements so that the state can provide essential resources, including CT scan machines and a steady supply of medicines. Sadar Hospital in Ranchi stands as a model of this transformation. " He added, "It has operationalized superspecialty services in cardiology, nephrology, cancer care, chest diseases, neurology, urology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, bone transplant, intensive coronary care unit, and cardiac care units. With advanced surgeries such as knee and hip replacements, spine and brain operations, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and complex paediatric procedures now routinely conducted, the hospital has drawn patients not only from across the state but from neighbouring states as well. " Ranchi Sadar Hospital currently hosts 25 private super specialists, seven specialists, and 12 private medical officers alongside 29 govt medical officers (MO). Last year alone, private doctors received Rs 2 crore in incentives, and over Rs 69 lakh has already been disbursed this year. Govt doctors, too, have been rewarded, with Rs 6.09 crore given last year and over Rs 60 lakh this year. Additional chief secretary of the health department, Ajoy Kumar Singh, said, "Efforts are also being made to enhance infrastructure, with the hospital currently operating with 850 beds. Amrit Pharmacy and Jan Aushadhi Kendra on campus ensure that affordable medicines are readily available. The expansion of superspecialty services to district hospitals is expected to drastically reduce dependency on higher tertiary centres. " Sadar Hospital has treated over two lakh Ayushman card holders free of cost. The hospital generated Rs 26 crore in revenue from the Ayushman scheme last year, compared to Rs 19 crore the previous year. Within just three months this year, it has already recorded Rs 14.5 crore in earnings, at a monthly average of Rs 5 crore.

CM Lalduhoma inaugurates trauma care facility at Civil Hospital in Aizawl
1 2 Aizawl: CM Lalduhoma inaugurated the newly completed trauma care facility at the Civil Hospital in Aizawl on Thursday, a milestone in bolstering emergency healthcare services in the state. The CM expressed deep appreciation to all contributors, emphasising the facility's vital role in providing timely trauma response and critical care. During his address, the chief minister also announced ongoing expansion efforts at the hospital, including the construction of new Block A and Block B under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) scheme, with an estimated cost of Rs 88.33 crore. The upgraded services will soon include cardiac care, kidney dialysis and IVF to meet increasing healthcare needs. He lauded Mizoram's highly skilled doctors and reiterated the govt's commitment to equipping them with essential infrastructure — especially for the benefit of economically weaker sections. He assured that the trauma care facility will evolve based on practical needs and expert feedback. Health minister Lalrinpuii echoed the commitment to healthcare advancement and expressed gratitude to the CM for his unwavering support. The facility, which had faced delays due to land disputes and the Covid-19 pandemic, has now been completed with Rs 121.50 lakh received from central funds and Rs 450 lakh from the state govt. It houses a reception and triage area, treatment and observation rooms, imaging services, a minor OT/resuscitation room, and staff rooms. It is one of seven trauma care facilities established across Mizoram.

Plan to increase AMCH MBBS seats to 250: CM
1 2 3 4 5 6 Dibrugarh: Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh is set for a significant expansion in medical education capacity, with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing plans to increase MBBS seats from the current 200 to 250 for the upcoming academic session. The announcement was made during a foundation stone laying ceremony for infrastructure development projects worth Rs 357 crore at the AMCH campus. The CM revealed that the proposal for the seat enhancement is currently in its final approval stage, with the govt optimistic about implementing the additional 50 seats this year. "In 1947, Assam Medical College started MBBS course with 57 students. Now we have 200 MBBS seats. Hopefully we will be able to add another 50 seats taking the total number of MBBS seats to 250 from this year itself," Sarma said. This expansion represents a 25% increase in the institution's intake capacity, marking a significant milestone for medical education in Assam.
