on Wednesday said those found indulging in such activities should be publicly shamed with their photos displayed at major crossings in cities.At a meeting of the department of
food safety
and drug administration, he said identifying offenders and displaying their photos would deter others.
He also directed officials to take the strictest possible action against the culprits in such cases. "Daily consumables like oil, ghee, spices, milk and cheese should be tested, preferably at the production units. Special teams should be formed for intensive checks on milk and dairy products, ensuring continuous monitoring," he said.In addition to this, the CM said, professional blood donors should be identified, and effective control should be established in this area.
During the meeting, officials told the CM that in addition to the six major divisions in which food and drug laboratories were previously operating, new laboratories and offices were established in Aligarh, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bareilly, Basti, Chitrakoot, Kanpur, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Prayagraj, Saharanpur and Devi Patan divisions. The laboratory buildings in Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Jhansi were also upgraded.Three modern microbiology laboratories were set up in Lucknow, Meerut and Varanasi, where testing for microorganisms, protozoa, viruses, bacteria, mycotoxins and other pathogens can be carried out. Testing has already started in Lucknow and Meerut. The CM said that a corpus fund could be set up for the operation and maintenance of these laboratories. To control the trade of fake drugs, the CM directed the department to closely coordinate with the police department for better enforcement.FSDA implemented a password-protected barcode system to make the food safety process transparent and accountable, ensuring the confidentiality and impartiality of sample analysis, said an official. He added that each sample is tested digitally by scientists and is considered valid only after approval from senior officials. The department also introduced a mobile app called 'Food Safety Connect' and a toll-free number 1800-180-5533 on which complaints can be lodged.Officials said that investment proposals worth Rs 1,470 crore were approved at FSDA in the last three years, resulting in direct employment for over 3,340 people. An official said that an unprecedented increase in pharmaceutical manufacturing units, medical device production, blood banks and retail medicine sellers took place recently, and over 65,000 new jobs were created in retail drug stores alone in the past three years.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has approved establishment of care centres for mentally challenged in Chitradurga, Yadgir, Kolar, and Bidar districts, with a grant limit of Rs 6 crore. The centres will be established in collaboration with NGO Aaladamara Foundation, said an order issued by the health department on Friday. It was declared in the Budget 2025, care centres for mentally ill persons will be established at district-level hospitals in the state in collaboration with NGOs. The order issued on Friday stated that in the remaining 27 districts, too, care centres will be established at district-level hospitals in collabora-tion with NGOs. According to the Mental Health Care Act 2017, it is the duty of a police of-ficer to protect persons found wandering aimlessly on the streets, as these individuals are at risk of causing harm to themselves or others or creating public nuisance due to their mental state. The Act also prescribes that it is essential to initiate community-based, human rights-friendly care, support, assessment, and treatment for these individuals. 'Due to challenges in accessing nearby mental health services, thousands of mentally ill persons leave their homes and become homeless every year. Identifying mentally ill persons among the homeless and bringing them to a safe place is a key function of the system,' added the preamble to the order.

After being diagnosed with stage 2 liver cancer, actress Dipika Kakar underwent a 14-hour-long surgery to remove the tumour. Her husband and television actor Shoaib Ibrahim took to his YouTube channel to share her health update with her fans and followers on Friday night. In the seven-minute video, Shoaib shared Dipika is out of the ICU and is recovering in the hospital. Sharing details about Dipika's surgery, Shoaib said that the doctors removed a small portion of Dipika's liver because of the tumour. She also underwent a gall bladder surgery. 'Nothing to worry, as liver is an organ that can regenerate itself', he shared in the video. He also shared that after the surgery, Dipika had to stay in the ICU for three days. 'Dipika will stay in the hospital for another three to five days, as advised by doctors. The surgery was major, she was in OT for 14 hours. It was a difficult time,' he said. As the surgery went on for fourteen hours, it created panic among her family members. Shoaib shared, 'I was with Dipika till 8:30 am before her surgery started. At 11:30 pm, she was shifted to the ICU. Though the doctors informed me that the surgery would take time, post 6-7 pm, my family members and I started to panic. We had never experienced a long surgery such as this. It was normal to be a little scared.' In his video, Shoaib also said that Dipika was on liquid diet for three days after her surgery. 'Now, she is back to eating normal food. She has been showing great signs of recovery as she has started walking and her blood reports are also normal.' The actor also thanked his fans for praying for Dipika and staying with them during their tough times. Speaking about their son Ruhaan, Shoaib said, he managed to stay away from his mother for three nights. However, he was brought to hospital to see his mother when he started to miss her post her surgery. On May 27, Dipika had taken to her official Instagram handle to share her diagnosis. Dipika shared a note that read, 'As you all are aware last few weeks have been quite difficult for us… walking into the hospital for a pain in the upper area of my stomach… and then finding out its a tennis ball size tumour in the liver and then finding out that the tumour is second stage malignant (cancerous)… it has been one of the most difficult time we have seen, experienced!' She added, 'I am all positive and determined to face this and walk out stronger Inshallah! With my entire family being by my side… and all the love and prayers pouring from all of you I will sail through this too!' Dipika, who was previously married to Raunak Mehta, tied the knot with her Sasrual Simar Ka co-star Shoaib Ibrahim in 2018. In 2023, they welcomed their baby boy, Ruhaan.
