GHAZIABAD Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday lauded the role of Ghaziabad-based Central Electronics Limited (CEL) in providing equipment to the defence sector, saying various components were supplied for the BrahMos missiles that were tested on Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. 'The defence sector is expanding, and UP has six nodes of the Defence Industrial corridor. The Lucknow node has started producing BrahMos missiles. Many of its components are being procured from institutions like the CEL. During Operation Sindoor, we successfully tested Akash and BrahMos missiles against Pakistan. Both these missiles are now 'Pakistan-tested' and trusted worldwide. This shows our strength,' said Adityanath.
The BrahMos missiles were used by Indian defence forces to launch precision strikes at military establishments in Pakistan, while Akash missiles were used as part of India's air defence system.
The CM was in Ghaziabad to attend the foundation-stone laying ceremony of a new greenfield data centre at CEL in Sahibabad. The event coincided with the golden jubilee celebration of CEL. Adityanath was joined by Union minister of state (independent charge) Jitendra Singh, state IT minister Sunil Kumar Sharma and state social welfare minister Asim Arun.
Jitendra Singh, along with CM Adityanath, laid the foundation stone for the new data centre.
'At one point in time, CEL faced uncertainty and was even put on the list for disinvestment. But it is now a mini ratna company, a success story, in line with PM Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat (developed India). CEL is working for different sectors like railways, defence, etc, and also for renewable energy, while showing the path of innovation,' the CM said.
Speaking during the event, the CM also said that Uttar Pradesh will generate 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2027, with CEL playing a key role in this mission.
Singh said CEL has its legacy and the company invented the first solar cell back in 1970, and now, 50 years later, it is about to set up a green data centre.
He also announced that the country's first quantum computing data centre will soon be established in Greater Noida. In addition, a biotechnology park will be set up near Lucknow, and a two or three-day startup conclave is planned for August.
Officials at CEL said the green data centre will boost digital infrastructure momentum by creating skilled jobs, promoting local innovation, and attracting startups, enterprises, and government users.

Marco Rubio Calls Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan PM Thanks US For 'Role' In Ceasefire With India

Last Updated: Sources say Sharif aims to internationalise the Kashmir issue and solidify domestic support amidst the challenges posed by Imran Khan Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday evening, with discussions also covering India and the Iran-Israel tensions, CNN-News18 has learnt. During their conversation, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for President Donald Trump's leadership in securing the ceasefire between Iran and Israel. He also thanked Secretary Rubio for 'the US role in facilitating the Pakistan-India ceasefire", despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's denial of mediation. Both leaders agreed to continue strengthening Pakistan-US relations, with a focus on enhanced trade. Sharif assured that Pakistan would maintain its constructive role in promoting peace in the Middle East. Secretary Rubio acknowledged these efforts and expressed the US's interest in collaborating with Pakistan to ensure regional stability. Top diplomatic sources said that Shehbaz Sharif is keen to present Pakistan as a mediator between the US and China for issues concerning the Muslim Ummah. His public appreciation of the US aims to internationalise the Kashmir issue and solidify domestic support amidst the challenges posed by Imran Khan, they added. Despite the downgraded protocol of this call, with General Asim Munir being the main power broker engaging directly with top US officials, Shehbaz Sharif seeks US recognition to bolster his legitimacy, especially after President Trump's meeting with Pakistan's army chief, the sources said. Facing an economic crisis and the looming influence of China, Shehbaz is striving to secure trade concessions, aid, and IMF loan relaxations from the US while carefully managing relations with China, they said. The international community recognises Pakistan's difficulties following the conflict with India and sees Shehbaz's actions as an attempt to address domestic concerns by crediting the US for the ceasefire, the sources said. 8.5 lakh mule bank accounts used by cyber frauds, CBI raids 42 places

New Delhi: The CBI said on Thursday that it detected around 8.5 lakh mule bank accounts across over 700 branches of different banks, which were being used by cyber scammers. The agency filed an FIR and conducted raids at 42 locations in Delhi, UP, and Rajasthan in connection with the use of these mule accounts in cyber frauds. Nine individuals, including three Delhi residents named Lovkesh Shakya, Savan Kumar, and Vishal, were arrested. Farman Beg and Purushottam from Uttarakhand, Shubham Kamboj and Umardeen from UP, and Yousuf and Ashok from Rajasthan are also among those who have been arrested so far. The CBI's action comes as part of its operation Chakra V. The CBI initially registered a preliminary inquiry to unearth the conspiracy involving mule accounts, the role of bankers, and the middlemen. "The inquiry revealed that more than 700 branches of various banks across India opened around 8.5 lakh mule accounts. These accounts were opened without proper KYC norms, customer due diligence, or initial risk assessment," the CBI's statement said. During the searches, several incriminating documents, digital evidence, mobile phones, bank account opening documents, transaction details, and KYC documents were seized. Individuals, including middlemen involved in opening mule bank accounts, were also identified. These accounts, the CBI said, were being used in a range of crimes, including those carried out by impersonation, fraudulent advertisements, investment traps, and UPI-based financial baits. "The cyber fraudsters are being helped by the commissions and omissions of certain bank officials, agents, aggregators, bank correspondents, middlemen, and e-Mitras who are facilitating the opening of mule accounts used for receiving and transferring proceeds of cyber frauds as well as enabling withdrawals from such accounts," the agency said.
