Ineos staff member linked to doping worked at Manchester United

Telegraph3 days ago
David Rozman, the Ineos Grenadiers head carer who was sent home from the recent Tour de France after becoming the subject of a doping investigation, spent a few weeks last season working with Manchester United, it has emerged.
Rozman, a Slovenian, is alleged to have sent text messages to a German doping doctor, Mark Schmidt, in June 2012, shortly before Sir Bradley Wiggins became the first British man to win the Tour de France.
Schmidt had worked for a team called Milram that, prior to its disbandment in 2010, had been rocked by doping scandals.
Rozman spent four weeks last year working as part of an exchange programme introduced after Ineos co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe took control of Manchester United.
The allegations regarding the Slovenian stem from a documentary by German TV outlet ARD, which was broadcast before the Tour de France and which drew on court transcripts and in-court reporting during the infamous Aderlass hearings.
Those hearings resulted in Schmidt being jailed in 2021 for orchestrating a doping ring revolving around cross-country skiers and multiple cyclists between 2012 and 2019.
Although Rozman was not named in the documentary, and was merely referred to as a longstanding member of Ineos Grenadiers, the Irish Independent subsequently named him, as well as publishing some of the messages referred to in court.
In one of them, Rozman allegedly asked Schmidt: 'Do you still have any of the stuff that Milram used during the races? If so, can you bring it for the boys?'
Ineos Grenadiers initially declined to comment after Rozman was named. Sir Dave Brailsford, who was in charge of what was then called Team Sky in 2012 and is now the head of Ineos Sport, was back at the race for the first time since leaving his role at Manchester United, where he was one of Ratcliffe's most senior lieutenants. But he refused to speak to journalists.
A team spokesperson later admitted that Rozman had been informally contacted by the International Testing Agency [ITA] in April and that the team had 'promptly' launched their own review by an external law firm. Rozman is yet to comment on these allegations.
Rozman's time with Manchester United is understood not to have coincided with these developments.
'David Rozman was informally contacted in April 2025 by a member of ITA staff, who asked him about alleged historical communications,' read an Ineos Grenadiers statement. 'David immediately notified the team of his meeting with the ITA and his recollection of the contents of the meeting. Although the ITA assured David at the time that he was not under investigation, Ineos promptly commissioned a thorough review by an external law firm.
'The team has acted responsibly and with due process, taking the allegations seriously whilst acknowledging that David is a long-standing, dedicated member of the team. The team continues to assess the circumstances and any relevant developments, and has formally requested any relevant information from the ITA.'

Urgent warning issued to people selling their identities online

There is a 'worrying trend' of people selling their own identities, a fraud prevention service has said. The selling of identities, often in the hope of financial reward, leaves people liable for loans or credit taken out in their name by criminals. Fraud prevention service Cifas, whose members include banking, retail, insurance, and telecoms bodies, said that more than 118,000 cases where identity fraud was suspected were recorded between January and June 2025. It said the ongoing threat is being exacerbated by AI (artificial intelligence)-enabled synthetic identities and fabricated profiles that can bypass security checks. It highlighted concerns that people are sometimes selling their own identities, typically on the promise of attractive financial opportunities. But by giving criminals access to legitimate credentials, Cifas is warning that people risk having debts built up by others in their name. Releasing its latest Fraudscape report, Cifas said that criminals are using advanced AI to create fake identities, forge documents, and bypass verification systems with 'alarming accuracy'. It said identity fraud risks have spread across various sectors, including false applications and identity theft in motor insurance; mobile account takeovers; and gambling-related identity fraud including criminals misusing the identities of people who have died. There has also been an increase in cases involving employees committing fraud against employers, Cifas said, with organisations reporting that more employees were concealing their background information to secure roles. Secret 'polygamous working' – where people hold multiple jobs or roles without their employer's knowledge or consent – as well as using fraudulent reference houses to cover employment gaps – are also a persistent threat to employers, Cifas said. Its Fraudscape report showed that, in total, more than 217,000 fraud risk cases were recorded to the National Fraud Database (NFD) by Cifas members from January to June 2025. Mike Haley, CEO of Cifas, said: 'Fraud is a national emergency – and AI has supercharged the threat, making it more sophisticated and harder to detect. No sector, business, or individual is immune. 'Tackling this fast-changing danger requires urgent, co-ordinated action through cross-sector collaboration and the sharing of data and intelligence. Only by working together can we stay ahead of the criminals and keep organisations and people safe from harm.'

Why Man Utd should SCRAP Benjamin Sesko transfer for different position Ruben Amorim desperately needs

MANCHESTER UNITED chiefs are 'working around the clock' to give Ruben Amorim the tools he needs to fix the club. But as Amorim and Co landed back home on Monday after their promising US tour ended with a reality check in the Big Peach, one pressing thought dominated. Newcastle hit Leipzig's asking price for the Slovenian frontman on Monday night and are keep to wrap up a deal as soon as possible. United now must decide whether to make their move. But the question remains, is it a proper holding midfielder that they REALLY need? The £42.3m Uruguayan midfielder, 24, got criminally caught in possession for Iliman Ndiaye's goal in Sunday night's 2-2 friendly draw, was treading through treacle at times and looked all at sea for most of his 72 minutes on the pitch. And when replaced by Casemiro, who remains slower than a pedalo in choppy waters — while Kobbie Mainoo has gone backwards — it exposed glaring vulnerabilities in the centre of midfield. The attacking trident boss Amorim used for the first 45 minutes, with debutant Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes floating in and around each other, was vibrant and exciting. Mbeumo, building up fitness after a £65m move from Brentford, has pace, penetration and perception. Cunha looks a scorer of great goals, if perhaps not a great goalscorer, while skipper Bruno is at his best when looking to hurt opponents with the ball. For starters, Mateta is available at half the price of RB Leipzig man Sesko. Finding a Rodri equivalent is, of course, tough. Just ask Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. 'A lot of people have suffered from this, a lot of people who had been working at the club for many years had to go. In what will be music to Fernandes' ears, United chief Berrada revealed: 'The recruitment team is working round the clock to strengthen our squad.' Start with the biggest issue, Omar, not the most eye-catching one. Teams with a polo mint hole in the middle can never win anything.

Labour ‘must stop 8 in 10 migrant crossings' to break smuggling model

Britain and France will have to stop eight in ten attempted migrant crossings in order to destroy the business model of people smugglers, senior officials believe. The first migrants due for deportation to France as part of Britain's new returns deal will be detained by the end of this week, the Home Office said. The one in, one out migrant returns deal with France has been approved by the European Commission and will come into force on Tuesday. Dozens of beds have been freed up in immigration removal centres ready for any small boat migrant arrivals this week and Border Force officers have been prepared to start selecting those to be removed. Any adult migrant who arrives on small boats will face being sent back as part of an arrangement that will see an equal number of legitimate asylum seekers in France moving the other way — those with a family connection to the UK or from a country with a high rate of asylum claims granted, such as Afghanistan, Iran or Eritrea.
