Sunday night's BET Awards hit heavy on the nostalgia, bringing back hip-hop and R&B stars from the early aughts to revive a sound not quite like any other.
To honor the "TRL"-style music video countdown show "106 & Park," a slate of big-name performers took the stage for a 20-minute beat-pounding medley.
Amid mini-sets from Ashanti and Keyshia Cole, boy band B2K treated the audience to a rendition of their 2002 club anthem "Bump Bump Bump." Complete with synchronized dance moves and all white 'fits, the four-man music group leaned heavily into their classic boy band appeal.
Jamie Foxx cries in BET Awards speech about health, credits daughters with recovery
Eagle-eyed fans were quick to tease out a more sordid history of the track. "Bump Bump Bump" was originally released with a feature from Sean "Diddy" Combs, who is currently on trial for federal sex crimes. Combs' influence on hip-hop, especially in the early 2000s, was so far-reaching that it's hard to hit shuffle without running into one of his projects.
The group is composed of J-Boog, Raz-B, Omarion and Lil' Fizz, who, rather than play an audio recording of Combs' part, rapped it in his place.
The story goes deeper, though. The track was also originally written by R. Kelly, who, like Combs, faced sex trafficking and racketeering charges, and is now serving time in prison after being convicted on all counts. Several high-profile rappers also remixed the song, including 50 Cent and Jay-Z.

50 Cent is a longtime rival of Combs and has been making an internet mockery of his ongoing legal challenges. Jay-Z was looped in with Combs in a recent lawsuit that accused both rappers for rape, though the case has since been dropped, with Jay-Z denying all wrongdoing and filing a countersuit against his former accuser.
As Combs, once a kingmaker in the genre, faces a reputation forever sullied, B2K's performance is a preview of how difficult it may be to avoid his art.

Nicki Minaj Name-Drops JAY-Z And Shannon Sharpe On 'Banned From NO' Lil Wayne Collab
Nicki Minaj just reminded everyone why she remains one of Hip-Hop's most revered and relentless lyricists. On Tuesday (June 11), the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap reunited with her mentor Lil Wayne for a fiery — and downright candid — remix of 'Banned From NO.' And let's just say, Nicki didn't come to play. The surprise drop landed less than a week after Wayne's Tha Carter VI hit streaming platforms on June 6, a release many fans thought would include a Nicki feature. While she was absent from the album's musical assistance, the remix made up for it. With the kind of lyrical prowess only Nicki can deliver, the track wasted no time trending on social media — fueled by her wordplay and the direct shots fired. Among the targets in her lyrical line of fire were Shannon Sharpe, the NFL, and even JAY-Z. She quipped, 'If I send a pic of Shannon, you ain't that Sharpe,' a jab that immediately sparked conversation. On X, she doubled down, explaining the line with a dose of humor and a not-so-subtle reminder of a February 2024 moment when Sharpe appeared to slight her. 'Yeah ni**a you thought I forgot that 'Nicki who' sh*t you did? LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO j/k,' she wrote, proving that she forgets nothing. Before wrapping her verse, Nicki also took aim at the NFL and JAY-Z for what seemingly stemmed from the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans. 'NFL, fire some ni**as and then call us!' she rapped, making it crystal clear that snubbing Lil Wayne in his own hometown was not something she could look past. This remix also marks the first time Nicki and Wayne have teamed up since her 2023 album Pink Friday 2 with 'RNB.' She promoted the track on Instagram with throwback Young Money pics and a caption saluting Wayne as 'the GOAT,' reminding fans of the bond they have that helped shape both of their careers. As for Wayne, his recent Tha Carter VI drop includes 19 tracks and a roster of unexpected features like Bono, Jelly Roll, his son Kameron Carter, Andrea Bocelli, MGK and others. Take a listen to his new collab with Nicki, 'Banned from NO' below. Celebrities tell all about aging, marriage and Beyoncé in these 10 bingeable memoirs "That lays open what I think 'Dateline' has exposed over the years, which is one of the worst epidemics we have: the epidemic of spousal abuse, of women being harmed by men. And I hate to say it, but that's really the basis of so much of the crime that occurs," Morrison said. Holt also told USA TODAY that the show's stories are "relatable" because "you realize that people that do bad things could be across the street from you, their kids could go to school with yours." "A lot of the people in these stories were good people, up until the moment they weren't, or they were living normal lives like ours and then one day they became a victim of something really horrible," Holt said. Barron Trump's friend Bo Loudon claims he got ICE to detain TikTok star Khaby Lame
Bo Loudon, the purported 'best friend' of Barron Trump, has claimed he is responsible for the arrest of the world's most famous TikToker who was detained by ICE and later forced to leave the U.S. The MAGA, Gen-Z influencer, who has been pictured numerous times with the president and his son, said he had 'personally taken action' to have Khaby Lame deported. 'No one is above the law!' he wrote in a series of posts on X, later adding: 'I've been working with the patriots at President Trump's DHS to make this happen. He was just ARRESTED in Vegas and is in ICE CUSTODY!' Despite a community note on the post calling Loudon out for false information, ICE confirmed that Lame had been detained at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for violating the terms of his visa on June 6. The 25-year-old star had entered the U.S. on April 30 on a temporary visa. A spokesperson for ICE said he had been granted 'voluntary departure' following his arrest and had since left the country. 'No one works faster than President Trump's administration!' Loudon wrote, following news of Lame's departure. ICE has not confirmed Loudon's involvement publicly, and did not provide further information when contacted by The Independent. Lame, whose real name is Serigne Khabane Lame, is a Senegalese-Italian TikToker known for his deadpan reactions to other videos. His viral videos have earned him a following of more than 162 million. While in the country, Lame attended the Met Gala in New York City on May 5. He has not commented publicly on the allegations that he overstayed his visa. It is also unclear if Lame returned to Italy immediately and posted an Instagram Story of himself in São Paulo, Brazil, after leaving the U.S. Despite barely being old enough to vote, Loudon and Barron Trump were unofficially recruited to help the oldest presidential candidate in history tap into the manosphere and capture the 'bro vote' in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election. Loudon, from Palm Beach, Florida, is the son of Dr Gina Loudon, the conservative television pundit and former co-chair of Women for Trump in 2020, and John Loudon, a former Missouri state senator.
