Whitehorse RCMP investigating potential abduction after child went missing for an hour

Yahooa day ago
Whitehorse RCMP say they're investigating a report of a child abduction that happened Sunday night in the Porter Creek neighbourhood.
Police said in a news release on Monday that the child's parents called them around 10 p.m. on Sunday, saying their nine-year-old daughter had not returned home as expected.
A missing person investigation then began with police going door to door with a police service dog team.
According to RCMP, the girl then returned home approximately an hour after she had last been seen. Police gave no other details.
In an email to CBC News on Monday, RCMP said investigators needed time to "speak to this child in a trauma-informed way," and that they would release any details about a possible suspect "if the suspect remains unknown to the police."
"At this point in the investigation, we need to allow the investigators time to do their work," the email says.
Whitehorse detachment officers, the RCMP Specialized Response Unit and Major Crime Unit are all assigned to the investigation and continue to gather information.
Police are asking the public to share any door or dash cam footage from the Porter Creek area between 8 and 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
