Texas NFL draft projections: Where Longhorns are being mocked in 2025
Texas football will be one of the most represented programs at the 2025 NFL Draft, with a chance at even having the most first-round picks.
The Longhorns have three projected first-round picks on Thursday, which is tied with Georgia for the most in USA TODAY Sports' first-round mock.
Texas, which is losing quarterback Quinn Ewers and replacing him with heralded prospect Arch Manning next season, fell to Ohio State in the semifinals of the first 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024.
Coach Steve Sarkisian has revitalized the program and has the Longhorns consistently one of college football's most talented teams since taking over in 2021.
Here's a look at where Texas players are being projected for the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin:
Texas NFL mock draft projections
WR Matthew Golden, No. 12 overall to Dallas Cowboys
Golden has made quite the rise since transferring from Houston to Texas last offseason, as he led the Longhorns in receiving and ran a blazing 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine.
One of the best overall athletes in the draft is projected as the first receiver off the board by USA TODAY Sports. Here's what Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz said of Golden:
"After again treating free agency like a yard sale while other teams operated as though they were at the auction house, Dallas is due for a spark. Golden certainly provides that, with his knack for creating separation making him an enticing asset for Dak Prescott and a Cowboys offense searching for some semblance of a threat beyond CeeDee Lamb."
OT Kelvin Banks Jr., No. 13 overall to Miami Dolphins
Banks Jr. won the Outland Trophy in 2024 and was a unanimous All-American after being one of the best offensive linemen in college football.
The big Texas blocker projects as one of the best linemen of the draft and gives the Dolphins plenty of flexibility as it looks to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He's also flexible, having played both guard and tackle.
"Miami has already experienced many of the limitations left by its underperforming lines, so allotting early picks up front is imperative for general manager Chris Grier," Middlehurst-Schwartz writes. "A natural scheme fit for the Dolphins, Banks could slot in at guard while still providing flexibility if Patrick Paul has trouble taking over at left tackle."
CB Jahdae Barron, No. 19 overall to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Barron was one of the best defensive backs in college football last season, and he certainly made the right decision to return to school in 2024 after his huge year. The Jim Thorpe Award winner and consensus All-American was the 2025 Peach Bowl MVP.
The fifth-year senior provides relentless effort and has a chance to be among the best cornerbacks to come out of the 2025 draft.
"If there's one coach who would most appreciate the full scope of Barron's ability, it's Todd Bowles," Middlehurst-Schwartz writes. "The Buccaneers coach and former NFL defensive back would surely relish the versatility and savvy of the Thorpe Award winner, and Tampa Bay could deploy him in a wide array of different looks and assignments."
Texas NFL draft picks 2025
Texas has many others that are expected to be selected, but not in the first round. Here's the full roundup, per The Athletic's Dane Brugler:
DT Alfred Collins: Third round, No. 66 overall to Kansas City Chiefs
QB Quinn Ewers: Third round, No. 82 overall to Seattle Seahawks
TE Gunnar Helm, Third round, No. 88 overall to Jacksonville Jaguars
DT Vernon Broughton: Fourth round, No. 116 overall to Miami Dolphins
DE Barryn Sorrell: Fourth round, No. 124 overall to Green Bay Packers
OL Cameron Williams: Fifth round, No. 141 overall to Tennessee Titans

93 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 93?
The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 93 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 93 No. 93 currently belongs to Kurt Hinish, who's back on a one-year deal after missing chunks of last season due to injury. He's been a solid depth piece since joining Houston as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2022, but he's not the best player to don the number in the last 20 years. Advertisement DL Kurt Hinish (2022-present) DL Jaleel Johnson (2021) DL Joel Heath (2016-2019) DL Jared Crick (2012-2015) DL Tim Bulman (2007-2009, 2011) DE Jason Babin (2004-2006) LB Kevin DeRonde (2003) DL Erick Flowers (2002) Best Player: Jason Babin Babin might be better known for his time in Seattle or Philadelphia, but he kick-started his success as a pass-rusher in Houston. The former first-round pick notched 13 sacks and 25 tackles for loss before being shipped off to the Seahawks in 2007. Babin's breakout year in Tennessee with 12.5 sacks eventually led to a megadeal with the Eagles on a five-year contract. He terrorized the Texans during his brief stay in Nashville, but he'll always be remembered -- at least for the time being -- as the best player to wear No. 93. WATCH: Texans QB C.J. Stroud returns to practice, throwing during minicamp
Houston Texans fans can exhale a sigh of relief following the start of Tuesday's mandatory minicamp at the Methodist Training Center. Third-year Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud threw passes for the first time in almost a month during the opening of Tuesday's minicamp practice. He connected on several completions to Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins and rookie Jayden Higgins that caught the eye of reporters in practice. Advertisement Here's a look at several throws during the early stages of team drills. Stroud was kept from throwing during the Texans' OTA practices over the last two weeks because he was dealing with 'general soreness' in his throwing shoulder, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. Both Ryans and first-year offensive coordinator Nick Caley said that they weren't concerned with Stroud missing reps and he'd be ready to go ahead of training camp. Stroud is in a pivotal year for the Texans after leading the franchise to back-to-back division titles. With a pair of losses in the divisional round, Houston spent the offeseason trying to revamp the offense and put the franchise quarterback in a better position to succeed. Advertisement While Stroud didn't throw during team drills, the fact that he was throwing at practice in general is a promising sign. Houston could elevate his reps on Wednesday's practice to close out minicamp with the media. The Texans open the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7. Texans worked out former first-round CB Damon Arnette ahead of minicamp
A former first-round pick could he calling the Houston Texans home soon if all goes according to plan Monday afternoon. According to KPRC2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the Texans worked out Houston Roughnecks cornerback and former Las Vegas Raiders first-round draft pick Damon Arnette Jr. on Monday morning. Arnette is trying to make a comeback after a short-lived career in the NFL beginning in 2020. Advertisement Cornerback depth has become a need for Houston behind All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. and breakout rookie Kamari Lassiter. Veteran cornerback Ronald Darby retired recently, leaving the No. 3 role occupied by Jeff Okudah last season open. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said they'd look at multiple options and apparently, Arnette is one of them. Last season, while playing for the Roughnecks in the United Football League, Arnette racked up 18 tackles, five pass breakups and an interception. Selected 19th overall by Las Vegas in 2020 out of Ohio State, Arnette was released by the Raiders less than two years later after a video surfaced of the former Buckeyes standout brandishing firearms and making death threats. Although Arnette had a brief stint with the Miami Dolphins on a practice squad that year, he never returned to an active roster on Sunday. In 13 games, Arnette recorded 29 tackles, one tackle for loss and three pass deflections. Arnette told Wilson in a one-on-one interview he's spent the last three reflecting and significantly reordered his life with different priorities. 'I'm a dawg on the field. I'm more of a professional now than I ever was before," Arnette told Wilson. "I wasn't a professional before. I was just a dawg. I found professionalism and a calm state of mind. I feel like I'm the best version of myself that I've ever been.' Advertisement The Texans return to practice on Tuesday for the start of mandatory minicamp.
