Jessica Biel sometimes 'puts on a happy face'
Jessica Biel has sometimes forced herself to "put on a happy face".
The 43-year-old actress - who first rose to fame as a child star in '7th Heaven' when she was just 14 - has reflected on how she's reacted to being in the public eye over the years.
She told PEOPLE magazine: 'I can understand sometimes feeling like you have to put on a happy face, or you know, smile and kind of grin and bear it.
'I've definitely done that in my past before... I understand wanting to hide some of my personal life or you know, just keep something sacred."
'The Better Sister' star was reflecting on how she feels some similarities with her character in the movie, who finds herself in the middle of a scandal and looking for privacy.
She quipped: 'I think my character does that in a very dysfunctional way, and I think I do it a little bit more functionally, I hope."
Jessica admitted portraying a character on screen is "always cathartic no matter what", because with each performance she's finding something to draw on from her own life.
She explained: 'You're finding something that is in your life that is parallel to something that you understand or a touch point that you can connect to that your character is going through. "Sometimes it's abstract, sometimes it's very linear.'
Jessica played aspiring basketball player Mary Camden in '7th Heaven' from 1996to 2007, and she tried to show off her own skills during her audition.
Appearing on the 'Catching Up With the Camdens' podcast - which is hosted by three of her on-screen siblings Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher and Mackenzie Rosman - she recalled: "The Mary character was spinning a basketball on her finger.
"So I did that in the audition without a basketball. What a choice. Like, who encouraged me to do that?
"I kind of still feel embarrassed about that, but, I don't know. Maybe it was effective.
"And I remember thinking, 'cool character,' because she's a basketball player, and I was an athlete. I was like 'Oh, I connect to this.'"

Cynthia Nixon opens up on 'intense' relationship with her And Just Like That... co-stars
Cynthia Nixon has an "intense" friendship with her 'And Just Like That...' co-stars. The 59-year-old actress has reprised her role as Miranda Hobbes in the 'Sex and the City' spin-off and explained that bond with co-stars Kristin Davis and Sarah Jessica Parker is all a result of how long they have all been working together. She told People: "I just think the longevity, I mean the intensity of it, but also the longevity of it, because there's something about knowing and loving a person, but then when you know them for so long, you know their children and their parents and their spouses and their friends. "When you understand somebody in their complete context, I feel like that's when you really know them." Meanwhile, actress - who starred on 'Sex and the City' throuhgout its original run from 1998 until 2004 and has appeared on the spin-off since its inception in 2021 - recently saw her alter-ego have a dalliance with a character played by Rosie O'Donnell, and explained that the writers had been trying to get the famed comedienne on board for years. "Michael Patrick King, who writes our show, and is one of the chief writers on our show, has been trying to write a part for Rosie every season and it's never quite worked out. She said: "So this time when he told me what the idea was, I thought, 'Oh this is fantastic, and he let me text her myself and describe it and say, you know, could we please send you this script?' With all our fingers and toes crossed.' "She is so funny and she is so funny in the part, but she's so centered and so real. "I think that we knew she would be hilarious, but I think we were unprepared for how moving she would be in the part, how incredibly sincere and how much she would wear her heart on her sleeve."

Nick Offerman reveals Parks and Recreation cast were 'texting all day' after Jonathan Joss' death
The 'Parks and Recreation' cast have been texting "all day" after Jonathan Joss' death. The actor - who had a recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate in the hit sitcom between 2011 and 2015 - died in a shooting in San Antonio on Saturday (31.05.25) aged 59, and his former castmates have been rocked by the devastating news. 'Parks and Recreation' star Nick Offerman told PEOPLE magazine in a statement: "The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken. 'Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.' As well as Offerman, the show starred big names like Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza and Rashida Jones. Joss was also known for voicing the part of John Redcorn in animated series 'King of the Hill'. After his tragic death, police in San Antonio confirmed that the shooter, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, fled the scene in a vehicle, before being detained by officers and booked for murder. Tristan Kern de Gonzales - Joss' husband - explained on Facebook: "My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done. "Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic. "When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. "While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired. "Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life. "Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future. "He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other. "I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved. (sic)"
