ASEAN leaders respond positively to ASEAN-BAC's 12 priority economic deliverables
KUALA LUMPUR: Southeast Asian leaders have responded positively to the ASEAN Business Advisory Council's (ABAC) 12 priority economic deliverables (PEDs) aimed at deepening regional integration.
ASEAN-BAC Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Nazir Razak said the PEDs are key economic initiatives designed to boost regional growth and integration, particularly under the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) pillar.
Among efforts to deepen economic integration include promoting inclusive growth, advancing sustainability and expanding the digital economy.
'These projects are going to take time as the officials will have to go through the policy implications and policy changes,' he told the media after the ASEAN leaders' interface with ASEAN-BAC representatives here today.
Among other PED initiatives are the flagship ASEAN Business Entity (ABE) and the ASEAN Initial Public Offering (IPO) prospectus.
Nazir said that ASEAN businesses should strengthen collaboration and seize opportunities within the regional bloc amid global economic uncertainty.
The public and private sectors across ASEAN, as a region, must work together to capitalise on emerging prospects, he said.
'We all have to work together because we can do a lot more. Certainly, we take heed of what the government and the leaders are saying, and we want to do it.
'Of course, there are certain policy changes that would be helpful to us and that's what we're pushing for,' he added.
The interface was held in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit.
The 46th ASEAN Summit spans two days starting today, and Malaysia is also hosting two key high-level engagements that coincide with it — the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.
This year marks Malaysia's fifth time as ASEAN Chair, having previously held the chairmanship in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

Deleum completes RM31mil acquisition to bolster valve business
KUALA LUMPUR: Deleum Bhd's unit Deleum Services Sdn Bhd has completed the acquisition of a 70 per cent stake in PT OSA Industries (PT OSA) for US$7 million (about RM31.3 million). PT OSA is an Indonesian company specialising in the supply, servicing, and maintenance of valves for the oil and gas (O&G) sector. The deal includes a profit guarantee of US$2.7 million (RM12.1 million) across the financial years ending Dec 31, 2024, and 2025. Chief executive officer Rao Abdullah said the completion of the acquisition marks a strategic turning point for Deleum as it moves beyond domestic borders to establish a stronger regional platform. "With our technical capabilities, market insights, and fresh perspective, we believe we can further enhance PT OSA's capabilities and performance. "Our goal is to expand PT OSA's market reach within Indonesia, delivering more comprehensive solutions to our customers and ultimately increasing shareholder value through sustainable growth," he said in a statement. Deleum said the acquisition strengthens the company's presence in the Southeast Asian O&G sector, boosting its technical capabilities in valve maintenance and extending its operational footprint in Indonesia. It also complements the group's existing valve business under its subsidiary, Penaga Dresser Sdn Bhd. "With the acquisition now completed, Deleum will shift its focus towards integrating PT OSA's operations and aligning business practices to unlock cross-border synergies. "The company plans to enhance valve lifecycle management services, streamline delivery processes, and share technical expertise between the Malaysian and Indonesian teams. "These integration efforts will enable Deleum to deliver more comprehensive, regional scale solutions to customers across Southeast Asia," it added.

Cambodia to file complaint with ICJ over Thai border disputea

(EPA Images pic) PHNOM PENH: Cambodia will file a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over border disputes with Thailand, prime minister Hun Manet said today, after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a recent frontier clash. 'Cambodia hopes that the Thai side will agree with Cambodia to jointly bring these issues to the International Court of Justice… to prevent armed confrontation again over border uncertainty,' Hun Manet said during a meeting between MPs and senators. Military clashes between the Southeast Asian neighbours erupted in 2008 and have led to several years of sporadic violence, resulting in at least 28 deaths. The most recent occurred Wednesday, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a location known as the Emerald Triangle – a joint border area between Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. The day after, Cambodia's foreign ministry sent a letter to the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh demanding 'an immediate and thorough investigation' into the 'unprovoked attack'. Describing the incident as 'a violation of Cambodian sovereignty', Phnom Penh said it remained committed to resolving the issue through 'peaceful and diplomatic avenues'. Prime minister Hun Manet said that even if the Thai side did not agree on bringing the issue to the ICJ, Cambodia would still file the complaint. He added that the border dispute was being 'incited by small extremist groups in both countries', which could lead to further clashes. Thailand's ministry of foreign affairs did not immediately respond to a request for comment from AFP. Cambodia's military had said they were attacked first in Wednesday's incident, while the Thai side said their soldiers were responding to gunshots. The Thai and Cambodian militaries met the following day, agreeing to ease tensions. Thailand says a joint boundary committee will meet in the next two weeks to resolve the issue. The Emerald Triangle is among the areas that will be named in the ICJ complaint, Hun Manet said. Another is Ta Moan Thom Temple, the backdrop for a video posted on social media earlier this year showing a woman singing a patriotic Khmer song which led to Bangkok lodging a formal protest to Phnom Penh. Cambodia and Thailand have long been at odds over their more than 800km-long border, which was largely drawn during the French occupation of Indochina.
