Girl claims man deceived her into sending nude photos via Telegram

Police said the girl sent nude photographs of herself to an individual posing as a medical doctor on the social media app.
IPOH : Police are investigating two reports involving a 15-year-old girl who was deceived into sending nude photographs to an individual posing as a medical doctor via the Telegram messaging application.
Manjung district police chief Hasbullah Abd Rahman said preliminary investigations revealed that the girl had submitted several nude images after being misled by the suspect.
He said the suspect is believed to have contacted the victim through Telegram and introduced himself as a doctor conducting remote health screenings.
'She was asked to provide personal and family details, along with several nude photographs, allegedly for cervical and breast cancer screening purposes.
'She was told that only the photographs were required and that no physical examination was necessary. The victim later realised she had been deceived and lodged a police report out of concern that the images might be leaked,' Hasbullah said in a statement today.
He said an investigation paper has been opened, and the case is being investigated under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to contact investigating officer Nur Munawarah at 011-1624 0391, the Manjung district police headquarters (IPD) at 05-688 6222, or the police WhatsApp hotline at 017-682 8005 to assist with the investigation.
Hasbullah also advised parents and the community to stay vigilant and be better informed about current issues involving sexual crimes against children.
He also advised against sharing personal information with unknown individuals, especially online.
'The public is also advised to activate the two-step verification security feature on the Telegram application as a measure to protect social media accounts and messaging platforms,' he added.

Fire near Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant contained: Russia

A fire that broke out near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after Ukrainian shelling has been brought under control, the Russian-installed administration of the Russia-held plant in Ukraine said on Saturday. Russian forces seized the Zaporizhzhia plant in the first weeks of Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Both sides have accused each other of firing or taking other actions that could trigger a nuclear accident. The plant's administration said on Telegram that a civilian had been killed in the shelling, but that no plant employees or members of the emergency services had been injured. Reuters could not independently verify the Russian report. The station, Europe's biggest nuclear power plant, is not operating but still requires power to keep its nuclear fuel cool. The plant's Russia-installed management said radiation levels remained within normal levels and the situation was under control. - Reuters

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the case will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers next week, with 60 witnesses interviewed. Zara's mother, through lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, denied linking the case to any VIPs and urged the public not to spread unverified claims, warning such actions could hinder investigations. Police found no evidence connecting the incident to political or influential figures. Separately, Saifuddin announced plans to boost the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's capabilities with two new offshore patrol vessels and the arrival of the ex-USCGC Steadfast in November. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Four 13-year-olds released on bail after alleged attack on classmate at Kajang mall

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — Four 13-year-old students detained over the alleged assault of a classmate at a shopping mall in Kajang have been released on police bail today. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the suspects, which was initially extended until tomorrow, was concluded earlier following the completion of documentation and investigative procedures. 'To date, police have recorded statements from nine individuals, including the four students,' he said in a statement. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by dissatisfaction among the suspects with the victim's manner of communication and interaction. On July 30, the Form One student lodged a police report alleging classmates beat him at about 11 am at the mall. He later received medical treatment and was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. — Bernama
