Google is testing a smaller, more reachable Gemini overlay on tablets
TL;DR Google is rolling out a UI update for the Gemini app on Android tablets that shrinks the size of the overlay.
The new overlay is about one-third the width of the screen instead of two-thirds and is anchored to the right side.
This updated interface only applies to the standard Gemini experience and seems to be part of a slow server-side rollout.
There are a lot of AI chatbots you can talk to these days, but I personally use Google Gemini on all my devices. It's smart, integrates with my favorite Google services, and is available out of the box on all my Android devices. While the experience has largely been the same across my phones and tablets, Google has recently made a few small tweaks to account for the differences in form factor.
For instance, Google recently rolled out a UI update that brought the Gemini mobile app more in line with the web version. The update added a navigation drawer on the left-hand side that's expanded by default on tablets but collapsed on phones. Now, the company is rolling out yet another update that shrinks the Gemini overlay on tablets.
As the screenshots below show, the Gemini overlay on my tablet is now significantly narrower. Previously, it spanned nearly two-thirds of the display's width; now, it only takes up about one-third. The overlay is also anchored to the right side of the screen instead of the center, making the controls easier to reach.

Tapping the text box still moves the overlay to the middle so you can more easily see what you're typing, though. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to move the Gemini overlay to the left, which might inconvenience left-handed folks.

This new UI applies only to the standard Gemini experience, not Gemini Live. However, we've already found evidence suggesting that Google is working on a more compact overlay for Gemini Live as well. It's possible this updated interface will also be shrunk and moved to the side, but we won't know for sure until it rolls out.
This new Gemini overlay seems to be rolling out slowly. So far, besides myself, we're only aware of two other people who have the feature: a user named Lord Reset on X and another named gelatinized on Discord. Tea dating app breach bigger than previously thought, company says
A previously disclosed hack affecting Tea, a women-only dating advice app, was more extensive than previously thought, the company said Monday. Tea's investigation of the incident found that app users' direct messages had been breached, along with some of their photos. "Out of an abundance of caution, we have taken the affected system offline," Tea said in a statement to CBS MoneyWatch. The app, which has become one of Apple's most downloaded free apps, was compromised in a cyberattack that exposed members' personal information, including selfies, Tea said Friday. The hackers accessed a data storage system containing information that members had uploaded prior to February 2024, the company said. An additional 59,000 images and direct messages were also accessed without authorization, according to Tea. Tea lets women share information about their dates and run background checks on potential matches, among other things. Ted Miracco, CEO at mobile security maker Approov, urged users to exhibit caution in sharing personal information on widely downloaded apps.. "A lot of people presume that if an app is available through Apple or Google, that it's safe. That's the first mistake consumers make," he told CBS MoneyWatch. Miracco also said Tea lacked adequate security protections. "This is basic cybersecurity and something the company should be held accountable for," he said. "They rushed to market and promised consumers to create a safe site, and instead they exposed them."

Samsung's One UI 8 might shut down bootloader unlocking on Galaxy phones
Samsung's One UI 8 update seems to prevent users from unlocking their device's bootloader to load custom ROMs, as spotted earlier by SammyGuru. Over the weekend, users on the XDA Developers forum noticed that Samsung appears to have disabled the option on devices in regions outside the US, where the option had already been locked for years. By unlocking the bootloader, users can install custom software and make other modifications to their phone. Users discovered the new restriction after digging into the code of the Settings app on One UI 8, which ships with the newly released Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7. As pointed out by SammyGuru and Android Authority, the code contains the line ' When this line is set to '1,' it means the bootloader is locked, like it is here in the US. Before One UI 8, this line had previously been set to '0' to enable bootloader unlocking in regions outside the US. Users spotted the restriction within One UI 8 beta builds for the Galaxy S25 as well. Samsung didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
