Blaenavon paedophile jailed for hiding mobile phone

Convicted paedophile Kieran O'Connor, 23, has persistently breached a sexual harm prevention order imposed in September 2020 after he contacted an 11-year-old girl. He was locked up for 20 months in December 2023 after sending sexual messages to underage girls on Facebook. O'Connor's latest offences took place last month when his flatmate tipped off the police, prosecutor Hannah Friedman told Newport Crown Court. When officers arrived at the address, they discovered that the defendant had a Nokia smartphone he hadn't told them about. He denied it was his before the phone was found hidden in the flat's meter cabinet. O'Connor had installed Snapchat and dating apps with his internet history deleted. The defendant, formerly of Cwmbran, now of Riverside Drive, Blaenavon admitted three counts of breaching a sexual harm prevention order. His offending took place on Wednesday, May 14. O'Connor has five previous convictions for eight offences, including engaging in sexual communication with a child. The defendant's barrister Jac Brown told the court that his client was realistic that an immediate prison sentence was inevitable. His lawyer said: 'He was very candid in his police interview – he had tried to conceal the phone from them. 'I would ask that he be given the maximum credit for his early guilty pleas.' Judge Eugene Egan told O'Connor: 'You have breached your sexual harm prevention order several times since it was imposed on September 9, 2020. 'You have appeared before court for doing so in April 2021, December 2021 and December 2023 – and here you are again today.' He said the defendant had a 'proven track record' of ignoring the order and added: 'The only sentence that can be imposed today is one of immediate custody. 'This was a deliberate breach.' O'Connor was jailed for 10 months and told that the time he has spent remanded in custody would count towards his sentence. He should be released on licence at around the halfway point. The defendant will also have to pay a victim surcharge.

Torfaen's neighbourhood policing team entered the property in Glyntirion, Two Locks, at around 4.50am on Thursday, June 19, before searching the address. While searching the house, officers found several firearms and cannabis. Both remain in custody ahead of questioning. Inspector Lee Stachow, who leads the neighbourhood team in Torfaen, said: "We've made two arrests and are questioning two people we suspect are supplying drugs in Torfaen, and we've taken these unlicensed firearms from our streets to make our communities safer. 'The impact of illegal drugs can have far-reaching effects on our communities, and we'll continue to do all we can to act and protect vulnerable people from harm. Scots biker fury after discovering stolen motorcycle 'torched within hours'

Graeme Kay woke up to find an angle grinder had been used to cut through a chain to steal his bike. A Scots man was angered after discovering his motorbike had been stolen and later torched by yobs. Graeme Kay, from Balerno, needs his bike to travel to his girlfriends and go out and meet his pals. ‌ The 39-year-old had locked his bike up to a ground anchor on the corner of Leith Walk and Balfour Street at around 8pm on Monday June 16, reports Edinburgh Live. ‌ However, he was horrified when the following morning to discover that thieves had used an 'angle grinder' tool to cut through his heavy duty chain. He shared the details of the theft in the Stolen Motorbikes Edinburgh Facebook group on Tuesday June 17 but was gutted when a member informed him it had been dumped on a popular cycle path. 'I woke up at about 8am on Tuesday and could instantly see something was wrong leaving the building,' he said. 'There were scorch marks on the chain, I think they used an angle grinder to cut one of the links. 'I told the police and contacted them twice for updates but heard nothing back. Within 30 minutes of posting in the Facebook group I was told it had been found on the pat at Ferry Road Walk. 'It was torched and gone. I'd just filled it up with a full tank of gas.' ‌ Graeme explained due to his specific insurance policy, it would be pointless to claim for the vehicle. He said it would be another year before he is able to save up and replace the bike. 'I'm annoyed,' he said. 'It is bizarre because the bike was difficult to see but I do not know if someone has gone by it and called guys to come and steal it. 'There seems to be a network of these guys stealing bikes. I think they thought it was an expensive model because it is a low rider and maybe they torched it when they realised it was not worth it. ‌ 'The bit that annoys me is why torch it. I guess it is because they can and they keep getting away with it. 'I knew the problem was bad in Edinburgh when you see these folk on Sur-rons doing wheelies with no helmet and balaclavas across the city. But I did not realise how bad it was until people I know who do biking tours said they will completely avoid Edinburgh.' A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 8.50am on Tuesday, 17 June, 2025, we received a report of a motorcycle being stolen in the Balfour Street area of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing.'
