This year, Hindi cinema seems to be the star at the National Film Awards. Responding to a query on whether Bengali cinema doesn't have that impact anymore, Ashutosh added, 'Every regional cinema has its high time and low time.
You suddenly see a wave of great cinema from Bengal, or from Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam — and then there are other times when you don't. It's constantly in flux. Why this wave happens, nobody can answer. This year, we've seen equally important films from every region.'
A noticeable trend this year was the rise of debut directors. 'There were a large number of debut directors this year, which is a great thing,' Gowariker said, adding, 'There are so many more filmmakers coming in and creating their own voices to tell the stories they want to tell.'

Kerala Story wins big ...but Kerala CM isn't happy
Sudipto Sen's The Kerala Story took home top honours at the National Film Awards, winning in the Best Director and Best Cinematography categories.
Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah welcomed the recognition. 'It's been a very, very tough film to make, and to get this kind of recognition at the national level with two very prestigious awards is supremely exciting and satisfying,' he said. Director Sudipto told ANI , 'The journey of making The Kerala Story was a team effort and it is the team's victory.
It was not made in Mumbai but we went to small villages and cities in Kerala and collected facts for the story.
It is a different kind of feeling.'
However, the decision to recognise the film has drawn criticism from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He expressed his disappointment, stating that the film promotes an ideology that, in his view, distorts facts and spreads communal discord. 'By honouring a film that spreads blatant misinformation with the clear intent of tarnishing Kerala's image and sowing seeds of communal hatred, the jury of the National Film Awards has lent legitimacy to a narrative rooted in the divisive ideology of the Sangh Parivar,' he wrote on X.

4444 days, many stories & plot twists later: Dev and Subhashree follow each other on stage
After 4444 days, Dev and Subhashree Ganguly made their official public appearance on Monday evening, sending fans into a frenzy. It's been almost a decade since their last on-screen appearance in Khoka 420. The crowd had a gala time. The highlight? When Subhashree playfully asked, 'Amar shonge friendship korbe?' – a throwback to Challenge. A brooding Dev asked, 'Keno?' and the crowd roared: 'Emni.' This filmy moment seemed long-awaited by all #DeSu fans. History and chemistry Dev-Subhashree are one of the most loved reel-life couples in the Bengali film industry. The duo also reportedly dated for many years. However, their relationship hit a rough patch, leading to a breakup. Dev said on stage: 'We did four films together, right?' To which Subhashree responded with a 'Dhat! No, we did five,' only to be teased by Dev, who followed this up by saying, 'I was just testing your memory! Actually, it's six films now, together as a jodi. ' 'People love updating us with all the gossip' When asked at the event, if they stalk each other on social media, Dev laughed and said he would — if only he had the time. 'But honestly, you stalk people you don't know. Subhashree's everywhere — on my feed, on hoardings — she's the lady superstar of Tollywood! I don't need to stalk her. And anyway, people love updating us with all the gossip.' Subhashree added, 'I think 'stalk' is a negative word. We work in a small industry, we always know what everyone's doing. We even met at KIFF!' To which Dev quipped, 'Yeah, sitting at opposite poles!' To which Subhashree said: 'Still counts. And he's doing brilliantly — everyone sees it.' Project together? Definitely maybe Dev said that for the two to work together, someone has to pen the right script which will do justice to their on-screen pairing and roles. Subhashree quickly said: 'I can't afford to cast Dev as an actor in my production,' to which Dev replied, 'You give me an offer first, then we can negotiate the rest.' #ThrowbackTime It was nostalgia, magic, and pure fan euphoria — all wrapped into one unforgettable evening, the likes of which the Bengali film industry hasn't seen in years. The two kept having a witty match of words with one liners and their signature smile. This was enough to send fans into a collective emotional meltdown. The fun continued as Dev turned to her and asked, 'Amar shonge dance korbe? I've forgotten when we last danced together. ' And just like that, the two broke into an impromptu performance of their two iconic songs: Mala Re from Romeo & Poran Jai Jolia Re from the eponymous film. Subhashree followed each other on Instagram — live, on stage. 'I was blocked, unblocked… what more can I say?' Dev teased, glancing at her. 'Who blocked who?' Subhashree shot back, calling for her phone to follow him instantly. Dev followed right back. CT checked to confirm this
